千本桜はんひち
I returned from Osaka and decided to do some pool walking before meeting up with a friend who lives nearby for lunch. We had planned to meet at the Westin, but unfortunately, the Chinese restaurant that we liked there was closed as the Westin is undergoing a major renovation from June onwards. We strolled along Sanjo Street and decided to check out the Kyoto Yura Hotel, which opened in April near Sanjo Keihan Station. This hotel is managed by the world's largest hotel chain, the French Accor Hotel Group, and is a boutique hotel with a theme of discovering the world's stories. The hotel is themed around the Taisho Romantic era, located near the starting point of the Tokaido 53 Stations. We entered the restaurant called 54station grille, which had a discreet entrance that could easily be missed. Inside, there was a large pine tree, and further inside, a bamboo forest. We sat down in the lobby first and asked the staff about the restaurant and menu before heading downstairs to the restaurant. The restaurant had a calm atmosphere and was not crowded, perhaps due to its low recognition. The lunch menu offered two options for 3200 yen, which included appetizers, main course, dessert, and coffee. With service charge and tax, the total came to 3905 yen. As I was driving, I couldn't drink alcohol, but my friend enjoyed a glass of wine. The appetizer platter included pate de campagne and green salad, which were both delicious. For the main course, I had grilled Tanba Jidori chicken with olives and artichokes, which was flavorful but slightly tough due to being bone-in. My friend had the seasonal roasted fish with spicy saffron sauce, which we shared a bit of. The fish was thick and tender, and the chickpea puree (hummus) was also tasty. For dessert, we had a large tiramisu with mascarpone cheese, sponge cake, and hazelnuts, which was delicious. We also had a refill of coffee. Overall, the meal was generous in portion size. After walking one kilometer in the pool, my calorie count was back to zero from the lunch. Is spending four thousand yen on lunch a luxury? Perhaps, but the location near Sanjo Keihan Station, the relaxing and spacious atmosphere, excellent service, and high-quality cuisine made it worth it. We even enjoyed some matcha candies in the lobby while chatting leisurely. While I enjoy standing eateries and izakayas, it was nice to have a relaxing meal with my tired friend. We may consider staying at the hotel next time to enjoy the breakfast at the beautiful large wooden table.
