This is a small game meat restaurant near Nishiki Market! It's called "Kakureya" which means hidden house, and it's located in a secluded place, so it may be hard to find if you don't know about it, but that actually adds to the excitement! While "sheep" and "duck" are not uncommon nowadays, here you can try meats like "badger" and "crow" which are beyond imagination (lol). You can enjoy dishes with rare animal meats! They offer a la carte options for casual drinks or set courses that can be enjoyed even at night. This time, I made reservations for two different sets and had them turn it into a course meal! When you go for the course meal, you get a dessert included at no extra cost! (Remember this, it might be on the test lol). The "Today's Carpaccio" was made with Shizuoka-raised pheasant and it was delicious. It was my first time trying pheasant, and it was so tasty! Honestly, it was my favorite among all the game meats I tried this time! The flavors were rich, and the more you chew, the more intense umami spreads in your mouth! The "Assorted Appetizers" looked like typical Italian antipasto at first glance, but they included game meats in every dish, making it an original creation of the restaurant! Personally, I was particularly impressed by the fatty wild boar! The "Deer Cutlet with Demi-glace" is a specialty item here! The umami flavor was strong! Not just the meat, but also the demi-glace sauce, mashed potatoes, and other elements showed the skill of the chef! The "Roast Selection" (choose between rabbit and wild boar) was like chicken breast! It was light and easy to eat, but still had a rich flavor! The wild boar had a good amount of fat and was refreshing! The umami flavor was incredible! The "Little Bit of Curry" was deer curry! Despite being called a little bit, the portion was quite generous! The curry had a mild Japanese spiciness that was easy to eat! The "Dessert" was a Fondant Chocolat. It was so fancy even though it was complimentary! For only 4000 yen, I truly believe it offers excellent value for money! You can taste a variety of meats, the portions are generous, and the quality is top-notch! Not only can you enjoy eating rare meats, but the dishes are also delicious! The service was attentive, and they have a wide variety of wines, so it's a must-visit for wine lovers too! I will definitely be coming back! Next time, I want to try the crow meat...

The menu, which includes a spice curry with game meat and a lunch set with about 4 types of game meat, is very appealing. I was a bit hesitant about the spice curry with coriander, which I don't like, but it turned out to be delicious. The fried vegetables were perfectly cooked. Game meat tends to be tough when grilled, and honestly, I don't really understand the appeal, but I think this is a good place for those who like game meat. The restroom is located to the left just after leaving the restaurant. It wasn't very clean, so it may not be very comfortable for women without immunity.

Located a 7-minute walk from Shijo Station on the Kyoto Municipal Subway, near Nishiki Market. No parking available. Our hidden gem of a restaurant is tucked away in a narrow building passage, making it a cozy spot that's easy to miss from the outside. We visited for weekend lunch with a reservation, but were surprised to find no other customers. The interior has a cafe-like atmosphere with counter and table seating. We ordered the "Kakureya Set Meal" for 1600 yen, which included deer cutlet, rabbit leg meat tempura, seared wild boar, duck mince cutlet, salad, broccoli with karasumi topping, miso soup, rice (free refills), and pickles. It was a generous spread, perfect for someone new to game meat like myself. The quality matched the price, but the variety made it a great deal. The rabbit, tasting like chicken, was a rare treat. The duck mince cutlet was tender and flavorful. I would love to visit again if given the chance.

Kyoto is crowded with tourists now. At lunchtime, every restaurant has long lines. I found a unique restaurant. It looks like a regular set meal, but it actually serves deer cutlets, rabbit leg meat tempura, seared wild boar, and duck croquettes. It's unconventional but delicious, especially the deer. Is the place a bar? Everyone except me seemed to be drinking at lunchtime.

Deer meat European-style curry with 200g for 1200 yen, topped with rabbit fried for 250 yen. The curry is cooked tenderly with deer meat shin and sinew in deer soup, along with vegetables that are deep-fried to concentrate sweetness and umami. The rabbit meat is bouncy and tastes a bit like chicken. The curry has a good amount of vegetables, the deer meat is delicious without any strong flavor. It's not too spicy.

A friend recommended this restaurant to me. I went there on the night before a holiday, and it seemed like there were a lot of customers with reservations. Luckily, my friend and I were able to squeeze in at the counter without a reservation. The menu had various items like rabbit, pheasant, crow, sparrow, deer, bear, wild boar, and more. In addition to skewers, they also had sashimi platters and croquettes. We ordered a platter with rabbit, deer, and pheasant, which actually included wild boar instead of rabbit. We also tried duck prosciutto, bear meat, and rice gelato. The sashimi platter was light and flavorful, without any strong flavors, making it very delicious! The duck prosciutto had a smooth texture with a rich flavor. The bear meat had a slightly jerky-like texture. The rice gelato was refreshing with a subtle sweetness of rice in the aftertaste, making it very tasty! This was my first time trying game meat, and I was pleasantly surprised that there was hardly any gamey taste, making it very easy to eat. The sashimi was surprisingly light and delicious! They also had whale cutlets, which reminded me of the fried whale we used to have in elementary school lunches. I don't drink much, so I'm not sure, but they had various types of sake and craft beer, making it a great place for those who enjoy alcohol.

I wanted to try some rare meats, so I searched for a restaurant and visited on a whim. I was a bit worried about the taste, but all the dishes were delicious. Before I knew it, I was ordering more and more dishes until I completed the menu. The staff were also very friendly and welcoming. I heard that hunting season will start soon, so I plan to revisit around that time.

I visited Jibie no Kakureya for the first time. As the name suggests, it's a restaurant where you can enjoy game meat. It has a retro coffee shop-like atmosphere. They offer all-day dining until 8pm, making it convenient for a late lunch. On the day I visited, the set meals were sold out so I had the curry instead. What I had that day was the Anaguma curry and the Western-style curry combo (1500 yen). The game meat of the day was Anaguma! It came with roasted Anaguma thigh meat and deep-fried vegetables. The spicy Anaguma curry paired well with the sweet Western-style curry. The touch of cilantro was also nice. I wish there was more game meat, but it was delicious. Next time, I'll aim for a set meal with a variety of game meat. Game meat and wine at night also sound good!

Located next to Daimaru, a little up from Takakura Street. This is a sister store of the charcoal-grilled skewer restaurant in Demachiyanagi, opened in January this year. The sign outside the shop is very attractive, saying "Daytime drinking and set meals, hidden house of game meat!" A friend who loves game meat told me it was delicious when they went to the Demachiyanagi store, so I was curious. This day, I went for a late lunch. Even though it's lunchtime, I'm going to eat game meat (laughs). It's my first time, so I ordered the "Hidden House Set Meal of the Day." There were two customers at the counter and two women at the table. One of them was eating the "Curry of the Day" alone, while the others were already drinking during the day. Unfortunately, I have plans later, so I had to stick to just lunch. Now, the hidden house set meal has arrived at the table. Deer cutlet, duck mincemeat cutlet, seared wild boar, and quail tempura, four items in total. There were also pickled vegetables, two small side dishes, red miso soup, and rice. Quite a volume! I thought it might be a bit too much for me, but everything was delicious, so I managed to finish it. Even if you're not a fan of game meat, I think it's totally fine. I didn't sense any odor, and it was delicious. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was also lovely, kind of cozy. Even for someone like me who is not good at drinking alone, it seemed like a place I could go to. I watched with envy as the customers at the counter and the staff were calmly and pleasantly chatting, maybe a unique daytime drinking experience... (laughs). I would like to go again. Also, the restaurant in Demachiyanagi, definitely. Thank you for the meal.

A popular restaurant in Demachiyanagi, where you can casually enjoy a variety of meats in a yakitori style, including authentic game meat, has opened a sister store in Karasuma. In a retro space that used to be a coffee shop, you can also enjoy various types of game meat here. For lunch, they offer dishes such as venison European-style curry, venison cutlet set meal, and pheasant sukiyaki set meal. One recommended dish is the "Kakureya set meal" for 1600 yen, which includes venison cutlet, rabbit skewers, grilled wild boar, and various other game meats to enjoy. The side dish "Grilled wild boar and bean sprout namul" allows you to fully appreciate the taste of game meat.

It was my second visit in March 2022. Last time, I hesitated a bit and ended up having curry, but this time I really wanted to try the "Chicken Tempura Curry Ramen." However, it wasn't on the menu this time. I asked the staff if they could make it for me, and they said it would take some time but they could do it. The curry ramen was served in a large wooden tray, with a broth that had a subtle taste of Japanese dashi and mild spiciness. The chicken tempura was surprisingly tender and not too heavy, with a crispy coating that could have been a bit crunchier. There were also small pieces of meat in the dish, which added a nice texture. Overall, it wasn't exceptional, but I ended up finishing the soup completely.

Visited in February 2022. No Tabelog score at the time of posting (0 reviews). After having a curry lunch with deer meat and today's curry at a closed café called "Jurin," I found a new restaurant has opened in its place. It's called "Jibie no Naibariya," a place for daytime drinking and set meals. It seems like they have a shop in Demachiyanagi as well. I did some research and it looks like it might be related to "Charcoal Grill Naibariya." The menu includes game set meals, curries, ramen, and more, with a blackboard menu above the counter. The daily game rice dishes included some unique options like "Bear meat sukiyaki set meal" and "Badger ginger pork set meal." However, I decided to try the curry with a combination of two types. Today's curry was made with minced duck and burdock root, offering a different spicier taste compared to the main Western-style curry. The roasted duck meat was incredibly moist and flavorful, with no unpleasant odor. The refreshing spiciness and pleasant heat spread throughout the mouth, making it a delicious curry. The deer meat Western-style curry had a sweet and rich base, with large cuts of tender deer meat providing a satisfying chew. I mixed the two curries together later on, enjoying the different flavors. If I had to choose, I would say today's curry was better than the classic Western-style curry. I didn't expect such a generous portion, so getting the large size was the right choice. Thank you for the meal.

I had a lot of game meat! For the appetizer platter, we had rabbit tartare and wild boar ham, as well as whale cutlet, bear, deer, and duck! It was fun to catch up with friends I hadn't seen in a while at the drinking party! I think it's a restaurant worth visiting again.

I had the Ai-gake curry for 1500 yen in medium size. It came with rabbit karaage topping. The rabbit meat tasted similar to chicken with no distinctive flavor.
