カレーの殿

I stopped by a design hostel near Sanjusangendo, where you can have morning curry even if you're not staying overnight. I walked down a long narrow corridor and found a courtyard at the back, with a kitchen-equipped living room at the far end. Since I couldn't see any staff, I called out to the front desk lady and ordered the Curry Morning (800 yen including tax). Soon, she went into the kitchen and started making the curry. The curry that arrived shortly after was an authentic spiced curry. It had a mild spiciness and a gentle flavor. It came with three types of achaar, yogurt, and coffee. The coffee was a bitter Americano, perfect for the morning. After leaving the shop, I visited Sanjusangendo. There were only a few customers, and when I went out into the garden, there was no one else but me. It made me realize how tough the situation must be for Kyoto, with the lack of inbound tourists.

Guests can enjoy a homemade curry made with spices for 600 yen (800 yen for non-guests). The curry is mild and chicken-based, making it easy to eat and goes well with the vegetables served on the side. To finish off, coffee is served, making it a perfect morning meal with great value for money. Overall, I prefer having curry in a quiet guesthouse over having breakfast at a luxury hotel buffet, as it allows me to relax and enjoy the meal. Thank you for the delicious meal! (^^)!

Before refraining from eating out, I found a restaurant near Nijo Station that is attached to a guesthouse. I discovered it by searching for breakfast on Tabelog. The restaurant is located at the back of the first floor, with the front being the reception area. Although it seems to be for guests staying at the guesthouse, non-guests can also dine there. The price is 600 yen for guests and 800 yen for others. I tried the chicken curry set, which came with curry with vegetables, yogurt, and coffee. The curry had a hint of spices and seemed homemade, but it was quite thin. It was a tomato-based curry, even lighter in flavor than soup curry. It's best to soak a spoonful of rice generously in the curry. The chicken included bone-in drumsticks, and the flavor was also on the mild side. The accompanying vegetables consisted of three kinds, all with a hint of spice. Despite the slightly mild seasoning, it was sufficient for breakfast. The price may be a bit high, especially considering the addition of coffee. By the way, there is a chaotic building nearby that houses both a day service center and a porn theater. What on earth is that all about? ^^;
