The lyrically named confectionery, named after the protagonist Yūko from Mizukami's masterpiece "Gonban-cho Yūgirirō". While there is a wide variety of fresh Yatsuhashi, I always end up buying the classic flavors of cinnamon and matcha. The chewy Yatsuhashi paired with moist red bean paste is simply delightful.

Today, I had the opportunity to purchase some "Kinpaito" from this shop. While I know that consuming sugar is not good for my body, I sometimes crave for sweets like this. It has been a while since I last had Kinpaito, and it was delicious.

I received a souvenir from a shop with multiple stores in Kyoto, so I recorded it for takeout. This time, I tried the most orthodox flavor of Yatsuhashi from Niki. Each pack contains 6 pieces with a shelf life of about 1 month from the purchase date, making it easy to use as a souvenir. Upon trying it, I found that the scent is very strong. The skin is slightly sweet, slightly thick, and has a firm texture. The filling inside also has a strong sweetness that complements the skin, providing a satisfying overall experience. Despite being packed, the skin is not dry and gives a moist impression. Most importantly, the cinnamon-like scent is quite strong, satisfying both in sweetness and aroma.

Yesterday we went to USJ, and the next day we visited Kiyomizu Temple in Kyoto. We parked our car at Kodai-ji Temple parking lot and walked the route from Ninen-zaka to Kiyomizu Temple and back. As we walked along this street, there were many souvenir shops and stores selling Yatsuhashi, making the walk enjoyable. Of course, we bought some Yatsuhashi as souvenirs, and some stores even had tasting corners that were satisfying on their own. When it comes to souvenirs for colleagues, I sometimes find it a bit troublesome to distribute individually, so this time I chose the harder type of Yatsuhashi which is individually wrapped and easy to distribute. It's also a nice snack to have during breaks. While I also like the soft Yatsuhashi, I personally enjoy the crunchy ones with a hint of cinnamon flavor.

On this day, I wandered around Kyoto with my wife. We came to this traditional Japanese confectionery shop. The location is on the slope leading to Kiyomizu Temple. We bought souvenirs for our colleagues here. Whenever we travel to Kyoto, we always buy Yatsuhashi from Itohachi Honpo for our colleagues. The reasons are: it has a long shelf life, it is individually packaged making it easy to share and place on absent colleagues' desks, it is a perfect portion size of 3 pieces per pack, it clearly represents Kyoto souvenirs even when individually packaged, it is very affordable at 432 yen for a pack of 12 packs of 3 pieces each, and the taste is comparable to other famous Yatsuhashi brands. This time, we bought 5 packs of Yatsuhashi for a total of 2160 yen. We bought extra, so we decided to enjoy some ourselves. I used to prefer raw Yatsuhashi over regular Yatsuhashi when I was a child, but in recent years, I have come to appreciate regular Yatsuhashi as well. The strong cinnamon flavor and aroma come through directly. As a souvenir, I think it is excellent. This Yatsuhashi is really affordable. Occasionally, there are people who don't like the strong cinnamon flavor, but that's just a matter of personal preference that comes with any souvenir you buy. Thank you for the meal!

This is a souvenir from a children's school trip in October 2016. Although this shop is famous for Yūko, this time it's the skin of Nama Yatsuhashi♪♪ I prefer the skin only because it's the best way to taste the shop's flavor♪(I also like the ones with filling of course) The scent of cinnamon is good and delicious‼ It's consistently delicious.

On the way back from Kiyomizu-dera in December 2014, I stopped by here. I was originally planning to buy souvenirs at the Kyoto Station shop, but ended up buying some Yatsuhashi here. I tried the chocolate banana Yatsuhashi as a sample, and it was surprisingly delicious. For souvenirs, I bought a set of strawberry, matcha, and cinnamon Yatsuhashi, as well as chocolate Yatsuhashi. I had never tried the strawberry and chocolate Yatsuhashi before, but they were unexpectedly delicious and easy to eat. I used to associate Yatsuhashi with cinnamon, but it seems that's not the case anymore. Thank you for the meal!

Kyoto Strolling Matcha Kyoto Warabi Mochi: 540 yen
They carefully blend warabi mochi and mochi made from mochi, kneading it meticulously. It has a solid texture with a moderate bitterness and aroma of Uji matcha. It was very satisfying and delicious.
For your reference, this is from the Itohachi Hachihashi Honpo Kiyomizu-dera store. ♬♩♫♪☻

One of the representative traditional Japanese sweets in Kyoto is "Yuzuko". It is a soft senbei wrapped in red bean paste. As soon as you open the vacuum-packed bag, the scent of cinnamon wafts out. Recently, there are variations in the dough as well, with some incorporating sesame or salt. The version with salt in the dough was quite delicious. There are also different types of fillings instead of red bean paste, such as chocolate or seasonal fruits. This time, I tried the classic "cinnamon and matcha" flavor. The scent of cinnamon makes your nose tingle. It's a traditional Japanese sweet that you occasionally crave.

This is a gift~ Thank you! Kyoto is known for its Yatsuhashi. There are various types, such as with red bean paste or like a rice cracker. Among them, my favorite is the fresh Yatsuhashi. I love red bean paste, but I like that Yatsuhashi doesn't have it! Fresh Yatsuhashi (matcha) ★3.5 It has a comforting deliciousness. I love mochi, so I think this texture is great! The matcha flavor is not strong, but the chewy texture and slightly sweet taste are irresistible. In Kyoto, besides Iizuka, there are many Yatsuhashi makers, and you can enjoy delicious fresh Yatsuhashi from any of them. Recently, there are also flavors like mango and soda besides red bean paste. I wonder how many more flavors will be added...~(^◇^)/ Hehehe

Kyoto Shijo Station, Gion Shijo Station, southeast☆ or Kyoto City Bus, Kiyomizu-michi Bus Stop. In front of Sannenzaka, next to Inoda Coffee Kiyomizu Branch, there is a store called Izutsu Yatsuhashi Honpo on the left side. I was taken to the famous ramen restaurant, Ichiban Asahi Takabashi Honten, because it's delicious but I don't usually eat ramen. We parked the car and explored Kyoto, visiting Yasaka Shrine and Kiyomizu-dera Temple. On the way back, we stopped by Karasudo in Sannenzaka for Castella cake (photos of Kyoto scenery and Yatsuhashi sweets are included) and then visited Kyoto pickles store, Yamashita. The prices are about 10% more affordable than the surrounding area. Finally, we visited Izutsu Yatsuhashi Honpo. I used to dislike Yatsuhashi, but I decided to challenge myself by trying the black sesame flavor. Maybe if I change my taste buds, I can like it. I bought a mini size for ¥525, attracted by the cute packaging. It's a limited edition set of three flavors: strawberry, matcha, and original. Maybe I've gotten used to it? The strawberry flavor was delicious with a soft bean paste. The matcha and original were also quite good. I feel like I have overcome my dislike for Yatsuhashi. Maybe it's because of the change in the manufacturer. I enjoyed it deliciously.青龍苑 also has a Kiyomizu-dera branch for men who are interested in the sound (laughs). It's a place where various traditional Kyoto shops gather. The scenery is full of Kyoto's traditional machiya atmosphere. The Izutsu Yatsuhashi Honpo store has a small and simple appearance. I might have passed by if it weren't for Yūko-chan. [July 2009] Continued. Is it a limited-time offer? Or a new taste experience? A seasonal delicacy perhaps? I found this yellow peach paste at Ikari Hankyu Sannomiya store. (1 piece for ¥315) Yatsuhashi transformed into such a refreshing flavor. It was very delicious. The scent was good even before eating, and the deliciousness of the fruit is irresistible in this Yatsuhashi.

When it comes to local souvenirs in Kyoto, you can't go wrong with Yatsuhashi. The cinnamon-scented Yatsuhashi is a popular choice, with its chewy skin and various flavors to enjoy. Personally, I prefer the fresh Yatsuhashi. I visited Kiyomizu-dera as a tourist, and for some reason, the staff at Yatsuhashi Honpo were always friendly. Perhaps it's because they deal with tourists, but I enjoyed a cup of tea there. They offer a variety of flavors, from the classic sweet bean paste to chocolate and sesame, but during autumn, they have chestnut and sweet potato flavors. Even if you're not from far away, the fact that the flavors change with the seasons means you'll never get tired of buying them.

My daughter bought some Kyoto snacks from a shop on Sannenzaka. She got them confirmed at this store (laughs). It seems she likes warabi mochi, so she brought back a Kyoto warabi mochi called "Kyoto Burabura" from Izutsu. It's sprinkled with plenty of matcha and it's delicious. The texture is also good.
