In front of the temple, there is a small shop that offers a healthy lunch and delicious cafe menu combinations. I had a hard time deciding on what to eat, but I ended up ordering the Kyoto-style curry set. The soup that came with it had a strong shiitake mushroom flavor. The curry was delicious with its sweet and spicy taste. The iced tea was also tasty. I also got a Daikokuji natto canele to take home. It was firmer than regular caneles, which was a bit surprising. The canele itself was very sweet, but the Daikokuji natto incorporated inside added a slightly salty flavor. It's like a Western confectionery that balances sweet and salty flavors.

A stylish café located in front of the main gate of Daitokuji Temple. I had a Canelé Chocolate and coffee. Daitokuji Natto Canelé seems to be a specialty. The Canelé Chocolate was delicious with its bitter chocolate flavor. It's a nice place to relax after exploring Daitokuji Temple. If I have the chance, I would like to try their curry as well. Thank you for the meal.

The French-style cafe in front of Daikakuji Temple, bustling with visitors and tourists, left a different impression than expected. I visited during the quiet winter season, around 3 pm, and I was the only customer. I ordered the original meat sauce pasta (with a choice of spinach or egg noodles) with a drink. The salad that arrived in a few minutes was colorful and rich in vegetables, including mizuna, lettuce, arugula, bell pepper, cabbage, pumpkin, and carrots. The white miso dressing with beans and vegetables was healthy and had a hint of sweetness from honey. The mushroom and spinach soy milk soup was made with leafy greens and dashi, with a subtle soy milk flavor that complemented well. The spinach pasta, topped with a generous meat sauce and Parmesan cheese, was served with olive-topped French bread. Lastly, I got to try the Daikakuji natto canele, which was slightly sweet and savory with a unique natto flavor. The staff was friendly, and I will definitely visit again when it's less busy.

I visited the special winter viewing at Daikakuji. Arrived at Daikakuji around 1 pm. Feeling hungry, I decided to have lunch at this restaurant near the entrance of Daikakuji. I had the lunch plate for around 1000 yen. The salad was full of vegetables with a balsamic vinegar dressing. The three side dishes included pork and tomato stir-fry, leek and chicken pizza, and shrimp and avocado tartare. The meal also came with five-grain rice and a soup made from Kyoto vegetables. The flavors suited my taste and were delicious. The lunch was reasonably priced, not like the usual tourist spots. As a bonus, they served a bite-sized Daikakuji natto canele, which was also tasty. I didn't purchase it as I was considering other souvenirs.

If you feel like having Western food near Daikakuji Temple, this is the place to go. This cozy cafe-style restaurant offers a daily lunch special for 950 yen. On this day, the meal started with a delicious soup, followed by a plate filled with plenty of Kyoto vegetables, homemade dressing, hamburger, quiche, and more. The rice served is a generous portion of mixed grain rice in a tea bowl. The dishes are healthy and nutritious, with a satisfying portion size. Drinks are ordered separately.

I visited Daikakuji and took a leisurely stroll around. Afterwards, I stopped by a cafe called "Cafe du Mon" located in front of Daikakuji to try their Daikakuji Natto Canele. I got a 6-piece set from the kind staff, paid for it, and took it home. When I opened the bag, I was surprised by how small the canele were. They were even smaller than I had expected. I thought to myself, "Wait, they're so tiny..." The canele were cute, bite-sized treats with a shiny surface and a firm texture. The Daikakuji natto added a unique touch, making them both sweet and salty. Overall, it was a cute and chewy Daikakuji Natto Canele. The cafe also had a nice atmosphere with outdoor seating. Thank you for the meal.

I was intrigued by the idea of Natto Canele, so I went to visit Daitokuji Natto. It's not the slimy type of natto.

A shop in front of Daikakuji. I entered after 12 o'clock and ordered the lunch set of the day for 950 yen. It was full of vegetables and seemed good for the body. I also had a canelé at the end. The staff at the shop were very friendly and the atmosphere was nice.

The other day, I watched with great interest the "Daikokuji Natto Canele" on NHK's morning program. I originally came because I wanted to try the Daikokuji natto, so I stopped by. I was a bit skeptical about the taste, but when I tried it, it was quite shocking! The taste varies depending on the position of the natto in the Canele. It's like a combination of spiciness and sweetness, two opposite tastes. So I asked the lady at the shop, "How should I eat this natto to make it delicious?" She told me, "It's hard to pair with rice, but it seems to go well as a snack with alcohol." I thought it would be difficult to eat indeed. That's why the balance between the sweetness of the Canele and the strong taste of the natto seemed perfect. It's a taste that becomes addictive. The kind smile of the female shop owner was also lovely, so I would like to come back again. Thank you for the meal.

This time, I visited a cafe called "Cafe DU MON" located in front of the parking lot of Daikakuji Temple in Kyoto. The exterior has a modern Japanese style with lots of greenery and a terrace seat. The interior is calming with a green color scheme, and it was bustling with almost every seat taken. I saw a sign outside advertising "Daikakuji Natto Canele," a local specialty. I decided to try it. It's a bite-sized canele with Daikakuji natto inside, drizzled with honey and liquor. It has a crispy texture on the outside and a chewy inside, making it a perfect match with tea. The cafe also offers a variety of dishes, so if you're interested, why not stop by and check it out?

I had reserved a special visit to the Jukoin at Daitokuji Temple, but when I visited the Michelin-starred soba restaurant Kanei after 1 p.m., they were sold out of soba. So, I went back to Soba Restaurant Go and had to wait for an hour. I decided to have tea here instead. Each table had magazine clippings displayed. This place is known for its canelés made with Daitokuji natto. The canelé had a strange texture with the taste of natto... some elderly people might find it hard to chew. I think the frozen matcha drink was called something like that? Sorry, I can't remember... The price was around ¥800. It was a hot day, so it was just right, but the anko seemed to be not homemade? It was small and lacked flavor. For this price, it's expensive. The bill was around ¥3,000, but when I tried to pay with a ¥10,000 bill, they didn't like it and said they didn't have change, even though I didn't have smaller bills, and they didn't accept cards... Even though it's a tourist spot, they seem to prefer cash. Well, that's probably why it's not crowded here.

I visited the café for dessert after lunch on November 12, 2015. It is located in front of the gate of Daikakuji. The exterior is stylish, Parisian-style, and even has an open terrace. This café is famous for its sweets made with Daikakuji natto. The specialty here is the canelés with Daikakuji natto. I ordered a sweets set (2 canelés, 4 slices of pound cake) for 600 yen and added a drink for 300 yen. Both the canelés and pound cake contain Daikakuji natto. The drink options are tea, coffee, and espresso. I chose espresso, but I wish they had gentler options like orange juice or apple juice for people who can't consume caffeine, such as those who are ill, pregnant, or nursing. After about 10 minutes, the dishes arrived. The sweets set was decorated with seasonal flowers, which was a nice surprise. The taste of both the canelés and pound cake was delicious, with the saltiness of Daikakuji natto complementing the sweetness of the sweets. The canelés are bite-sized, making them easy to eat. They also offer takeout, so I recommend it for creating a buzz. If you're in Daikakuji, I recommend this stylish café.

After visiting Koto-in in Kyoto, I found a shop called "CAFE DU MON" in Kyoto's Kita-ku. It was a very crowded shop. I peered inside and saw that they were selling my favorite canelés, so I decided to buy some as souvenirs. Since they were only sold at the counter, I had to wait in line along with other customers who had just finished their lunch. I realized that I had bought too many souvenirs in Kyoto, and that I should savor each one carefully. The "Daikokuji Natto Canelé" had finely chopped Daikokuji natto sprinkled inside a sweet canelé. I could taste a slight saltiness amidst the sweetness. The texture was firmer compared to the canelés I usually eat, possibly due to the coating. The canelé coated in chocolate also contained Daikokuji natto. I'm not familiar with the original Daikokuji natto, so I'm not sure if it needed to be combined with canelé... Well, if I keep thinking about that, I won't be able to appreciate local specialties. This is an excerpt from my other blog "Mu-chan Papa's Gourmet Eater☆Nagoya/Kasugai Area." If you have time, please take a look.

Cafe du MON, located in front of the famous Daitokuji Temple, is known for its canelés made with Daitokuji Natto and dry curry. Their lunch set includes three side dishes, a salad with Japanese greens, soup, and rice with black rice and green peas. The generous salad makes for a healthy one-plate lunch. It's a nice idea to take a break at the cafe after visiting the Golden Pavilion, then stroll through the Daitokuji Temple grounds. They also have an English menu for foreign visitors.

2013.08 Daytime - Daitokuji Natto Canele (8 pieces) 630 yen This café is located on the street lined with shops near Daitokuji Temple. They sell canele with Daitokuji natto inside. As a fan of canele and natto, I decided to give it a try. I bought a pack to take home. Daitokuji Natto Canale (8 pieces) (3.0) The canele is quite small, about 3cm in height, bite-sized. The surface is sticky, with bits of Daitokuji natto visible. When you bite into it, it's moist but on the firm side both outside and inside. It has a strong sweetness, occasionally accompanied by the saltiness of Daitokuji natto. Given the size, it feels a bit expensive. I do like canele, especially when it's freshly baked with a crispy exterior, a smooth and soft interior, and a rich wheat flavor. This canele, being small in size, lacks the contrast between the outside and inside, and the stickiness is a bit disappointing. I think a larger canele with a clearer distinction between the exterior and interior, paired with Daitokuji natto, might be a better match. Due to the stickiness, it's recommended to have a napkin handy when eating by hand. Thank you for the meal.

I have been to this restaurant for lunch twice, for takeout once, and for dinner three times. Every time I order the 850 yen set lunch, which includes rice, soup, salad, and a main dish. It's a well-balanced meal and the taste is excellent. They are also happy to prepare takeout, so I can bring home some for my family. For dinner, the owner is knowledgeable about wine, so when I ask for a recommendation, they always select a great one. The restaurant's specialty, the "Daikokuji Natto Canele," is also delicious. It has just the right amount of sweetness. I recommend trying the drink set during cafe time. Even though I'm not a fan of natto, I enjoy it every time.

I received some sweets from CAFEDUMON and the packaging is absolutely lovely. It's a renewed design. The Daikokuji Natto Cannele has a wonderful shine and texture. It's a bite-sized treat that you can enjoy in two halves. The chewy texture is delightful. The Daikokuji Natto looks like raisins or chocolate chips. It's a delicious cannele that combines Japanese and Western flavors. Thank you for the meal!

In front of a famous temple, Amagashi Sweets theme: Kyoto Sweets, Bread On the way back to my hometown, I always visited a shop that caught my eye. Have you heard of Daikakuji Natto? I haven't bought it myself, but it's a popular souvenir from Daikakuji, linked to the clever Ikkyu san. It's not sweet natto, but more like preserved beans, almost like salted natto. What kind of genre would this fall into? However, this unique item is made into easy-to-eat sweets and sold at the café right in front of Daikakuji, called Café Du Mon. In my memory, it used to be called Kissaten Mon... This café not only serves a substantial lunch that pairs well with wine but also offers small-sized canelés with Daikakuji natto. They are easy to pick up with your fingers and have a rich taste with a good balance of honey and liqueur. The hint of saltiness that feels like black pepper is probably from the Daikakuji natto. I quite like the sweet and savory combination, and recently I've been bringing them as souvenirs. While they were being wrapped, I also tried their biscotti. It seems like this shop has many more interesting items to offer.
