Located just after the Gifu-ya in Omoide Yokocho in Shinjuku is a long-established coffee shop, Tamba-ya Coffee Shop. Established in 1964, it is a well-known authentic coffee shop in Shinjuku. The interior is in a dark brown color scheme. The first floor has an L-shaped counter and several tables, while there are also seats on the second floor, although I have never been up there. The back bar is lined with Bon China coffee cups. When you order a hot coffee, they carefully drip it through a filter each time. The Bon China cups they provide are pre-warmed with hot water. The sugar and cream containers are made of red copper.
- Tamba-ya Blend (830 yen tax included) A blend coffee with a mild acidity and a moderate bitterness, which I personally enjoy.
- Coffee Gelato (930 yen tax included) A crispy texture and mildly sweet sherbet. It's quite a generous portion.
It is a great place, but smoking is allowed, so that is something to consider.

It had been a long time since my last visit, and what I felt was that I had gotten used to a smoke-free world and become sensitive to smoke. This is a place where people who dislike tobacco smoke should not enter. The people around me were all strong smokers, enjoying pancakes, fruit cakes, and other sweet treats while smoking. Of course, it's a smoking-friendly establishment so there's no issue, the coffee is delicious, and the dishes are cute which I admire. I just wish there was better ventilation, especially on the second floor.

Recently, a café has been bustling with tourists from overseas. They serve a cream soda that is not sweet at all, made with carbonated water! On top, there is vanilla ice cream with vanilla beans inside, creating a beautiful deep blue color. Another recommended item is the coffee zenzai, which consists of coffee jelly topped with whipped cream, red bean paste, and roasted soybean flour. The coffee jelly itself has a strong bitterness to it.

"I went to a cafe in Memory Lane for a break! I had eaten a lot, so I wanted to drink coffee and take a break, and that's why I went. I ended up ordering a lot - pancakes, dorayaki, pudding. The coffee had a deep, slightly bitter taste. I like mine with lots of milk, so it was just right for me! The dorayaki is actually the model for Doraemon! I had to try it! The moist, dense dorayaki is very satisfying, and one is enough to make you feel full. The pancake made with dorayaki skin was also moist and dense, and paired well with the coffee. The pudding was a smooth type, with banana chips, fresh strawberries, and cream on the side. It was my favorite and the best! I highly recommend it to those who prefer smooth puddings! If you're tired of the crowds in Shinjuku, I recommend this place as a relaxing spot."

☆Homemade pudding madame set 1,500 yen
A nostalgic pudding with a bit of firmness and elasticity! It is said to be scented with alcohol. It is finished with strawberries and banana chips!
☆Hotcakes 1,350 yen
Hotcakes with the Tajimaya stamp, served with butter and jam! Maple syrup is also available, allowing you to enjoy multiple flavors. It was a nice hotcake. Thank you for the meal!

I entered the smoking tea and coffee shop without knowing it, but couldn't bear the smell. The shop itself is calming and has a retro Showa vibe. However, it's a good shop if you smoke. Non-smokers should not enter. The pudding is truly Showa-era, nostalgic pudding.

Located behind the Uniqlo at the west exit of Shinjuku Station, near the entrance of Omoide Yokocho, is the main store of the coffee shop "Tajimaya Coffee Shop". I visited for the first time around 2:30 pm on a weekday for tea and snacks. The exterior has a chic look, and the interior has a classic old-fashioned coffee shop atmosphere. The shop is divided into first and second floors, with both counter seats and table seats available. Smoking is allowed throughout the shop. This time, I sat at the counter on the second floor. It was a bit hot as there was a roasting area in the back. The menu offers a variety of blended and straight coffees, as well as a selection of teas. They also have a good selection of toast, pancakes, and cake sets, including a set with dorayaki from a nearby shop. I decided to try the Pancake Set for 1,350 yen. First, I was served iced coffee, followed by the pancakes in just 5 minutes. The pancakes were stamped with the Tajimaya logo, topped with butter, and served with jam. Instead of maple syrup, they used honey. The pancakes had a chewy texture and were sweet and delicious. The coffee was a strong blend, well-extracted, which paired nicely with the sweet pancakes. Payment can only be made with transportation electronic money like Suica. PayPay is not accepted. Next time, I'll try the dorayaki or toast set with coffee.

There is a cafe near Shinjuku, close to Omoide Yokocho. The barista behind the counter carefully brews the coffee, the shelves are lined with dishes, and the interior is chic and retro. The menu is a bit pricey. It was surprising to see a young woman as the barista. They offer a variety of menu items, with a focus on cake sets, and there were many elderly customers. It's a smoking-permitted establishment, so it may get smoky at times. The iced coffee is priced at 930 yen. Served in a fancy champagne glass-like cup, it has a rich flavor, refreshing acidity, and no bitterness. I appreciate that they serve it without ice, as ice can alter the taste. I had a relaxing time enjoying the delicious iced coffee. Thank you very much!

It has become a little tourist spot, "Omoide Yokocho," near Shinjuku Station, bustling with inbound tourists taking photos for memories. However, a different time axis can be felt at the long-established coffee shop "Tajimaya Coffee Shop." I went there with a friend for a coffee break after a meal. We tried the "Special Original Blend (830 yen)" which was not too heavy but still had a strong coffee flavor. The cup's opening also gave a refreshing feeling. We also tried the "Purin Madam Set (1,550 yen + 50 yen for changing to Assam tea)" with a slightly firm old-fashioned pudding that went perfectly with the cream. The warm atmosphere of the wooden interior was delightful. It's heartwarming to see such shops still existing. While self-service cafes are popular, I hope the coffee shop culture remains immortal. This shop gives you a feeling of that.

Under the scorching sun of the day, I sought refuge in Shinjuku at "Tajimaya Coffee Shop". It opened in 1964 in the Memory Lane of Showa 39. It was renovated in 1987 and remains one of the historic shops representing Showa-era Shinjuku. It exudes a nostalgic charm distinct from the current specialty coffee boom. Today, the first floor was crowded so I was guided to the second floor for the first time. I was surprised to see the same lovely cups displayed at the counter on the second floor, but the atmosphere was equally nostalgic and I felt like I had scored. The second floor seemed to cater more to younger people, and they were also roasting beans there. Today, I enjoyed Mexican coffee with a deep, bitter taste and authentic coffee jelly. I forgot about the heat outside and immersed myself in nostalgia. Thank you for the meal.

A long-established coffee shop founded in 1964 located in Omoide Yokocho at the west exit of Shinjuku Station. It had been a while since I last visited Omoide Yokocho, back when I was a university student. I was a bit wary since smoking is allowed in all seats, but luckily there were no smokers at that time. I went in looking for their hotcakes, which come as a set with a drink for 1,350 yen. I chose the blend for my drink, which was served in a lovely cup lined up on the wall. The hotcakes are made with the skin of a dorayaki from a certain store (maybe Tokiya?), so they are thin and not too filling. The blend was delicious! I want to try their apple pie next time. Money spent: 1,350 yen Rating: 3 points 5 points: Definitely want to visit again!! 4 points: Would like to revisit if I have the chance! 3 points: Would consider revisiting. 2 points: Once is enough. 1 point: No need to go.

It is a cafe with a retro Showa era atmosphere. I ordered dessert, and it tastes pretty good. I love the milk jug ❤️. Also, it's a cafe where you can smoke. Personally, I don't like smoking, but it's convenient for friends who smoke.

I visited the restaurant in the early afternoon. The table seats were full, but there were seats available at the counter, so I was seated right away. I ordered the famous Yokocho Sabaran set here. This is a dessert where bread dough is soaked in a syrup made of coffee and rum. It was served in about 10 minutes. The coffee, a blend, had a nice bitterness and aroma that was very delicious! The Sabaran had a strong syrup flavor and was a sophisticated dessert. This is a smoking-permitted restaurant, so if the person next to you is a smoker, you may end up inhaling smoke directly, so non-smokers should be aware of this.

Late-night cafe! I entered the shop after 9 o'clock. Even at this time, there are many people. However, it is less crowded than in the evening. Just to be clear, smoking (cigarettes, e-cigarettes) is allowed at the table. I had cake here for the first time. It was gentle and delicious.

Quiet type of cafe where you can spend time alone. Ice White Chocolate: A sweet drink with no caffeine, made with milk and white chocolate, like a dessert. Yuzu Squash: Refreshing taste with strong carbonation, topped with vanilla beans on ice. Coffee Jelly: A strong coffee jelly with a bitter taste that doesn't get diluted by cream or syrup. Smoking allowed in the seating area.

At the end of Omoide Yokocho near Shinjuku Nishiguchi, if you want coffee, this is the place. The aroma of coffee roasting wafts outside, but inside you'll be overwhelmed by the smell of cigarettes in the dark shop. The iced coffee and cheesecake go well together, with the coffee not too acidic or bitter. Depending on the timing, it might be too crowded to get in, but the convenient location makes it easy to stop by.

Near the west exit of Shinjuku, there is a place around Memory Lane where the entrance is located. The interior of the shop is dimly lit with indirect lighting and has a wooden base. The layout seems to be separate for the first and second floors. Inside the shop, cups are lined up neatly on the shelves. I ordered a sandwich and an iced coffee. The coffee seemed to be roasted in the shop, and it was very delicious.

I went to the Tamba-ya Coffee Shop in Shinjuku for the first time in a while because I wanted to smoke while drinking iced coffee. In the past, I was seated at the counter on the second floor, but today I was seated at the counter on the first floor. I ordered the "Iced Coffee with Water Drip" for 930 yen. It's expensive, but smoking while enjoying delicious iced coffee is the best!

After having dinner with a friend, I suddenly felt like eating apple pie and decided to visit this place I had been curious about. Even though it was nighttime, it was very crowded. They had a wide variety of coffees and sweets, including dorayaki, which I was very tempted to try. However, I stuck to my original plan and enjoyed a leisurely apple pie, coffee, and dessert. I will definitely visit again. Thank you for the meal.

I enjoyed iced coffee and chocolate terrine in the morning. I like the iced coffee with low acidity! The terrine was rich and satisfying with two different flavors, but it was not too sweet so I could enjoy it until the end. However, smoking was allowed so I had to endure the smoke.
