This is my third time visiting this restaurant, and whenever I come to Kyoto, I make sure to stop by. It's one of my favorite places. Each dish is carefully prepared and the flavors and presentation are wonderful. The daily changing course menu always leaves me feeling satisfied. They make good use of seasonal vegetables and ingredients sourced that day, resulting in incredibly delicious dishes! The restaurant is small with a counter and two tables, but the staff are friendly and welcoming. I noticed many solo foreign diners enjoying their meals as well.

Tonight, I'm heading to the restaurant Kisan for dinner! Unlike before, I'll make sure to call ahead because it tends to get crowded, and I'll sit at my usual spot at the back of the counter. The delicious dishes I had were: a starter of grilled saury, sea bream and daikon radish stew, grilled mackerel, tempura oysters, shrimp, a salad with 16 ingredients, a dessert of sweet potato steamed bun with crab sauce, grilled wagyu beef, nigiri sushi with sea bream, mackerel, and medium fatty tuna, a roll with fatty tuna and cucumber, a miso soup with extra toppings, seasonal fruits with white wine jelly. For those who tend to drink too much, there's draft beer x2, Harada special junmai nigori sake, Fuyurokkan freshly squeezed junmai ginjo raw sake, Isojiman special junmai Yamadanishiki, Kamikura special limited edition Shichiyō Gohyakumangoku Arasohari. The atmosphere and service were great, and surprisingly, there were quite a few solo diners, so it might be possible to walk in for a second round or more. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

I had lunch in Kyoto after a long time. It is a Japanese restaurant located along the Takase River in Nishikiyamachi Takatsuji. It is said to be a sister store of Ryouriya and Otabiya. Lunch is by reservation only, so be careful. I requested the 6000 yen course. 1. Appetizer: Shrimp and Vegetable Dashi Ponzu Jelly 2. Soup: Matsutake Mushroom and Conger Eel 3. Sashimi: Tuna, Amberjack, Scallop 4. Grilled Dish: Grilled Autumn Salmon with Miso 5. Strong Dish: Grilled Pacific Saury with Purple Radish Jelly 6. Hot Dish: Pumpkin and Taro with Aged Pork Soboro Sauce 7. Sushi: Medium Fatty Tuna, Sea Bream, and Spear Squid 8. Dessert: White Wine Jelly with Shine Muscat. Each dish was carefully prepared to bring out the flavors of the ingredients. I look forward to visiting both Nara and Kyoto again to try more dishes from talented young chefs. Tonight I headed to "Ki" restaurant! I called the chef about 30 minutes in advance to make sure there was availability. Lately, it's been surprisingly (excuse me!) full, so it's better to check in advance! Suzu and I entered! The chef and T-san welcomed us with smiles! First, we ordered beer! The appetizer consisted of five dishes! The sea urchin and squid were delicious again! Shall we have the seasonal dish? (I respect the seasonal feeling) If they ask, "Of course!" I also requested the special junmai sake from Joyo! The soup with conger eel and winter melon was delicious! The fruity Joyo made with sake rice [Iwai] went well with it. The sashimi was tuna, sea bream, and squid, which was a sure bet! For the grilled dishes, we had grilled trout with condiments and fried summer oysters, which were delicious! I couldn't help but order more sake! Short K, a special junmai sake, was unfiltered and freshly brewed in four stages! Oh, they have firefly squid? I requested tempura! The flavor and bitterness of the firefly squid were delicious! The salad with shrimp and 16 ingredients was a refreshing dish! How about steamed clams in sake? We tried a new sake, Harada's summer junmai, unfiltered and freshly brewed, chilled for a crisp and flavorful taste! The flavor of the clams was overwhelming! For the meal, we had the chef's choice of sushi, including fatty tuna, amberjack, and shad roe, with an additional order of fatty tuna seared over charcoal! The red vinegar was delicious! I ordered another glass of Harada! "Would you like dessert?" Of course! We had a rare cheesecake made with sake lees and Japanese sugar! I'm not sure about sweets, but it was definitely delicious! (laughs) They gave us a souvenir of the nightcap for our trip to Okinawa! We enjoyed another delicious meal of Japanese cuisine and sushi tonight! Thank you for the meal!

I came back because it was a really delicious and wonderful restaurant last time. There was also a foreign tourist dining alone, so even if you come alone, you can enjoy your meal and drink at the counter, which is great. Each dish is carefully prepared with beautiful presentation and delicious taste. I ordered the daily changing half course meal and also added some sushi. They have a variety of drinks that pair well with the food, and the dishes come out at a relaxed pace, so you can leave feeling full. This is a restaurant that provides the seasonal feeling of Kyoto through both appearance and taste.

Every time I visit Kyoto, I always come to this favorite restaurant. The sushi here is served in a way that doesn't even require soy sauce. The presentation is also meticulous, allowing you to enjoy Kyoto cuisine. The shirako tempura was exquisite! It pairs perfectly with sake! The dishes here have an elegant flavor that brings out the taste of the ingredients. It's a delight that you don't have to add seasoning yourself. I definitely want to come back here the next time I visit Kyoto.

Cooking and Seasoning, Mr. Toki's Cooking and Travel Inn's branch store, newly opened from Sushi Sakaba Hirashima! Finally, I was able to visit after missing the timing! Head Chef H specializes in Japanese cuisine, and Sushi Chef T is a skilled sushi chef. It's such a wonderful restaurant where you can enjoy both tempura and sushi! Starting with a beer, the first dish, Yatsunoyama Kai, was well-balanced and delicious. The hot pot of pumpkin with yuba from Shunana is a perfect blend of the natural sweetness of Shunana pumpkin with the bonito broth and saltiness. The sashimi includes fatty tuna, yellowtail, and squid, paired with sake. The sake chosen was Tadori River, a dry sake that complements the sashimi well. The grilled beef also goes well with the dryness of Tadori River. The grilled sweetfish with miso sauce was paired with Revival 2018, a sake made from blending three types of original sake and aging them. It has a soft attack, soft acidity, and a deep flavor. The creamy cheese and kazunoko tempura roll with nori was a perfect match for Revival! The red vinegar sushi rolls were delicious. The favorite of the older gentleman, the tuna and squid sushi, was requested. The dessert was a unique foam dish, which was surprising in a Japanese restaurant. For the sweet option, the Suntory whiskey "Toki" was chosen, which is a rare whiskey mainly for export to North America and the EU. It is smooth and easy to drink, with a pleasant aftertaste. The meal was full of creative ideas and delicious dishes. Thank you for the feast!

I visited this restaurant for the first time after it was recommended to me and found it to be fully booked. It was a quiet place with about 16 seats along the Takase River. I ordered the 5500 yen course, which included a bowl of conger eel and matsutake mushroom, as well as three pieces of sushi. The dishes were all delicious and not too heavy, making it perfect to enjoy with some drinks. The scallop sashimi was especially tasty. I think it's a good place to take tourists for a casual taste of Kyoto cuisine.
