My family loves blowfish, and our special treat is blowfish hot pot. It was my mother's birthday, and since many restaurants switch to conger eel dishes in the summer, finding a place like Yamafuku that serves blowfish all year round is a rare treat. To celebrate, we ordered the most luxurious special Yamafuku deluxe course for 9,800 yen. The meal started with blowfish skin in ponzu sauce, followed by a large plate of blowfish sashimi. Then came grilled blowfish, fried blowfish, blowfish sushi, and finally, blowfish hot pot with rice. The meat from the grilled blowfish and hot pot was still twitching, showing that it was freshly prepared. The fin sake was also delicious! While we indulged today, they also offer courses for 5,500 yen or 6,000 yen, which is very reasonable. I noticed a solo diner during our meal, and since I often dine alone, I hope to treat myself to a meal here someday as well.

It was my first visit to Yamafuku in Gion, Kyoto! It's conveniently located just a 1.2-minute walk from Gion Shijo Station. Today, I ordered the "Yamafuku Fugu Butsukiri Tessa Course". It costs 5,500 yen per person (drinks not included). The course includes appetizers, special fugu sashimi, swimming fugu, fried fugu, porridge, and dessert. The restaurant is spacious and has a fugu tank. You can enjoy fresh fugu at a reasonable price! I definitely want to try fugu in various ways like sashimi, hot pot, and fried. I'm very satisfied with this luxurious course menu for 5,500 yen! I think it's great value for money. I will definitely visit again! Thank you for the meal!

The quality of the food is outstanding!! Every menu item made with fresh blowfish is excellent. Especially the grilled blowfish was amazing. The restaurant has a calm tatami seating area with well-maintained distance between tables. The staff providing service were always smiling and had a pleasant demeanor. This restaurant is much better than its rating on Tabelog!! Maybe it's not well-known yet? It could be considered a hidden gem. Great value for the price and I will definitely come back. Thank you for the delicious food.

Reasonable price, very satisfying! The blowfish, taken out of the fish tank and prepared right away, was fresh with a sweet taste and delicious. The green onions were crisp without any unpleasant smell, and tasted even better when mixed in. The garlic stir-fry seasoning on the blowfish grill was exquisite and really whetted the appetite. The restaurant was clean and had a nice atmosphere. Thanks to the generous use of fin sake, the flavor was rich and enjoyable. I would like to visit again during the winter season.

Tonight, we had a company dinner party. This time, we had fugu (blowfish) to eat. The restaurant is located a bit up from Shijo Kawaramachi, and you can see fugu swimming in the tank at the storefront. We quickly entered the restaurant and sat at a table with a sunken kotatsu-style seating. First, a dish with lots of green onions as an appetizer was served, followed by thinly sliced fugu sashimi. It had a hint of garlic and tasted delicious with ponzu sauce. Next, we had grilled fugu, and when it arrived, the fugu was still moving slightly! It was the most delicious dish for me. The grilled fugu had a crispy skin and tender flesh with gelatinous texture, complemented by a special ponzu sauce. We also had fried fugu, which was served with lemon and a bit of salt. I lost count of how many beers I had by this point! Then, we had a fugu hot pot, and once again, the fugu flesh was moving slightly. We enjoyed it dipped in the tasty ponzu sauce. To finish, we had a porridge made with the remaining ponzu sauce. The meal ended with a yuzu sherbet for dessert, leaving a refreshing taste in the mouth. I was brought to this restaurant by the company president, so I'm not sure about the exact price, but I think it was probably around 7800 yen per person for the premium fugu course. Considering we had grilled fugu, hot pot, and more for 7800 yen, it seems like a reasonable price for a fugu restaurant. Thank you for the treat, Mr. President!

From Gion Shijo on the Keihan line, heading north on Kawaramachi Street, you'll see a water tank with pufferfish swimming along the side road. Today was all about pufferfish - we had pufferfish sashimi, hot pot, and even fried pufferfish. The garlic stir-fry was especially delicious. I didn't take any photos, which is a shame. The grilled pufferfish was seared on a net, rolling it around while cooking. It stuck to the net quickly, but it was so tasty with all that collagen. The sake was great, and they even lit it up for us each time we poured a new cup. Of course, they close at 8 pm, but we left with full bellies and a bit tipsy.

Fugu hot pot, tessa, and grilled fugu, indulging in luxury with finsake and Japanese sake. The speed of serving the dishes was excellent. In addition to the course, we added grilled fugu. The fugu was grilled on a net in front of us with a garlic-flavored sauce, the flesh was firm and delicious, even the skin was tasty! ✨

Go up towards Gion on Kawabata Street, it's an easy-to-find place along the street. There is a fish tank by the entrance where the pufferfish swims around looking comfortable. To be honest, I'm not a big fan of pufferfish. However, the hot pot dish is delicious as usual. The sashimi looks beautiful but... But the grilled shirako is a must-try delicacy for your last supper. The crispy surface and rich flavor when you bite into it is just heavenly. It makes you wonder if there are other dishes out there that taste this good. It's not something you can have often, though.

Reasonably priced yet generous in volume. The fugu course starts from around 5,000 yen. You can also order dishes individually. There is a tank in the restaurant where fugu swim, so you can enjoy fresh ingredients. The photo shows a serving for four people, including: Fugu sashimi, Grilled fugu, Fugu shirako, Fugu nigiri sushi, Fugu hot pot, Zosui (rice porridge), and fruits. This time, we added fugu shirako to the 8,000 yen course.

When you go up Kawabata Street in Gion, there is a lonely shop on a dark road, and there are pufferfish swimming in the tank on the exterior of the shop. I have been here a few times. The fugu sashimi is served on a large plate, allowing you to enjoy it luxuriously with chopsticks. The sliced fugu for the hot pot is freshly cut and still moving. My personal favorite is the grilled fugu! You dip it in sauce multiple times and eat it over charcoal. This shop is clean, has good value for money, so I highly recommend it!

It was the first time I had fugu that was still moving after being cut up! It was moving on the plate, even making the chopsticks and vegetables move. It was delicious and light.

I had my first tetchiri and tessa at a blowfish specialty restaurant this year. I was wondering how blowfish would taste in Kyoto, but it was quite delicious. It's nice to have blowfish once a year. Thank you for the feast. See you next year (laughs)
