My friend who lives in America visited Kyoto and told me about a restaurant they liked, La Jolla. As we originally came from San Diego, we felt a sense of familiarity with this restaurant, and the Mexican food was quite delicious. There are not many authentic Mexican restaurants in Japan, but I think this place has a taste that is well-received by foreigners as well.

I visited around 12:40 on a weekday. There were no other customers. I ordered the Burrito Lunch for 1380 yen excluding tax. I had tried a burrito (probably with beans) as a single item before and it was delicious, so I wanted to revisit for lunch around 12:15. However, on that day, even though the sign was out and there was sound, the roll-up curtain on the door was closed, so I couldn't enter. Finally, I was able to have my lunch revenge this time! I chose the pork burrito. It had an authentic taste and was delicious. It was so big that I got really full. Even though a single burrito fills me up, the lunch set also came with tortilla chips and avocado guacamole, making it a great deal.

I visited this restaurant for the first time on a weekday night. I made a reservation just in case, but I was the first one there because I arrived early. I was a bit worried because there weren't many people, but the food was really delicious. The dishes I tried were cocktail shrimp, home-style nachos, and chicken burrito. I didn't take a photo, but the steak and French fries were also very tasty. Having a Corona, Modelo, and margarita in hand, I enjoyed the delicious food. I found a hidden gem and will definitely go back again!

You can enjoy authentic Mexican food here. The flavors are adjusted to suit Japanese taste and very easy to eat. The tacos were especially delicious! Thank you for the meal.

I was able to enjoy Mexican cuisine in a calm restaurant after a long time. The food was carefully prepared and the staff were kind and friendly. I think it's a safe place for foreign customers too.

Now, it's about La Hoya. After finishing the meal, I decided to have dessert somewhere nice. Recently, I've been on a taco craze ever since I encountered the divine tacos at Yakitori Kuroda in Fukuoka, Kyushu. So, I chose Mexican cuisine, and an authentic one at that. By the way, the tacos at Yakitori Kuroda are not well known in Fukuoka. Why? They are really delicious. The chefs at the restaurant seemed to be authentic Mexican, so I had high expectations. I ordered a burrito and tacos, along with some white wine. The burrito was quite hefty, but surprisingly light. It was filled with beef, beans, rice, and avocado paste. It wasn't too spicy, so I used the condiments on the table to add some heat. It was light and easy to eat, but the flavors lacked depth. The taste was a bit vague. As for the tacos, they offered two types of shells - wheat and corn. I'm not a big fan of corn shells, so I chose the wheat one. It was also delicious. However, something felt off about the balance of flavors. Overall, you can enjoy authentic Mexican cuisine here, but I found the flavors to be lacking a bit of punch.

Located on the first floor of a building that has moved from the north side of Nijo Castle to the area near the Imadegawa-dori street, this Mexican restaurant offers California-style Mexican cuisine. The open atmosphere, unique lighting, and overall ambiance immediately caught my attention upon entering. On this particular visit, I couldn't drink alcohol so I opted for a ginger ale instead of Mexican beer.
Starting with a Cobb salad, which had a variety of vegetables mixed with dressing, the portion was quite generous and perfect for sharing among three people. The grilled chicken burrito was another impressive dish with a substantial size. The guacamole, cheese, and cream sauce had a gentle taste that paired well with the grilled chicken and chewy tortilla. The fajitas, wrapped in tortillas with beef, avocado, and sauce, offered a delightful combination of flavors and textures. The Mexican rice and beans served on the side complemented the dishes perfectly.
Overall, the portions were generous, making it a great spot for dining with a large group. The California Mexican atmosphere of the restaurant, coupled with the delicious burritos, has made it one of my favorites. With six different burrito options and a desire to try the tacos, I have already decided to revisit this place. Bon appétit!

The other day, I visited a restaurant called "La Hoya" that serves Mexican cuisine in a California style. Originally located near Nijo Castle, they moved here in 2014. It's situated a little down from the Imadegawa-Oike intersection on the west side. It's very close to Karasuma subway station. The name of the restaurant is taken from the luxury resort La Jolla in California near the border with Mexico. The interior has a Mexican vibe. The owner seems to have learned Mexican cuisine in California. The restaurant is long and narrow, with a cozy atmosphere, and on that day, there were several foreign tourists dining there. We ordered a salad, tacos, a burrito (filled with shrimp, cheese, beans, and Mexican rice), and Californian spare ribs made with Kyoto pork. We were served by a new staff member that day, who kept asking, "Is one enough?" quite a lot. Well, I can't eat two burritos... but he was polite and not rude. The spare ribs were tender, with a perfect balance of sweetness and spiciness, reminding me of Tony Roma's I had in Guam and were delicious. The burrito was quite filling, like a Mexican-style omelette. We also had about 4 drinks in total, and the bill came to just under 9000 yen for two people. It was a nice experience with a foreign atmosphere, and overall, it was a good restaurant.
