I went to a local Japanese restaurant near my workplace for lunch today. It seems like a traditional Japanese restaurant that also serves udon and set meals for lunch. It has a cozy atmosphere and feels like a neighborhood eatery. Since the weather is getting warmer, I opted for cold noodles. I had cold udon with plenty of seaweed and wasabi. I may have added too much wasabi (^^;;). The noodles were smooth and delicious. It's a casual place to grab a quick lunch, and I'd like to make it one of my go-to lunch spots near the office.

Since the aquarium opened, there have been a few new dining options around Horikawa Shio-koji to Omiya Shichijo, but still not many. The location is on the north side of Kyoto Station, heading west towards the aquarium on Shio-koji Street, around the middle of Horikawa Street. Look for the blue and yellow flag that says "udon." The lunch menu mainly consists of set meals, udon, and rice bowls, priced around 600 to 800 yen. I ordered the "oyakodon (800 yen)" as usual. The price seemed a bit high, but it came with two side dishes, miso soup, and pickles. The oyakodon had a hint of sansho pepper, the egg was perfectly half-cooked, and there was plenty of tender chicken. The side dishes and pickled radish had a homely flavor. Considering the price and portion, it was a good deal. The Railway Museum opened near Umekoji Park on April 29, 2016. It could be a lunch option for those visiting the aquarium and the Railway Museum. Just for your reference.

When I visited Kyoto on a business trip, I saw a sign for bukkake udon near Kyoto Station and decided to try it out. Upon entering, I took off my shoes and found that the place used to be a coffee shop. I ordered the tempura udon set meal for 750 yen. It took about 10 minutes for the food to arrive. The set meal included udon, rice, two small side dishes, and pickles. The udon came with two large tempura shrimp and seaweed tempura, and both the udon broth and tempura were delicious. The side dishes were also satisfying. It was a great value for lunch. Thank you for the delicious meal.
