It's been a while since I felt like eating gyudon, and since I had a delicious one at a different Nakau before, I decided to stop by this shop. It's nice that there's space to park a few bicycles in front of the store. I eagerly waited for my gyudon. Today, I ordered a large size with udon on the side. However, unfortunately, the beef in the gyudon was dry and not as tasty as I had hoped. Maybe it was just bad timing? I also couldn't find any red pickled ginger. I wondered if they had run out of it. But then I noticed a sign hidden behind the dressing saying, "If you need red pickled ginger, please let us know." Red pickled ginger is a must for gyudon! I quietly enjoyed my meal while thinking about that.

This shop is easy to park at in Kyoto city, and the udon is still delicious. Recently, you can find this kind of udon everywhere (even frozen udon has the same chewy texture). The beef bowl has a deep color compared to other chain stores, but the taste is not particularly strong, and it doesn't really give off a "Japanese-style" impression as written on the menu. However, it's convenient, so I will definitely go back for more.

I decided to visit Nakau for the first time in a while. I was planning to have the parent and child bowl, but I saw the limited-time "Crab and Egg Bowl" on the menu. I didn't have high expectations, but I decided to give it a try. I ordered the Crab and Egg Bowl for 690 yen. It arrived in about 5 minutes, with the presentation being a bit lacking. The bowl had rice topped with scrambled egg sauce and two pieces of crab. The crab meat was mixed into the scrambled egg sauce. The sauce had a good dashi flavor and was not bad. It coated the rice nicely. However, the price was a bit high for Nakau's standards. I heard that they will be introducing a new menu item called the "Buri Bowl" in January. I might go try it out.

While cycling around Kyoto early in the morning, I felt like eating something warm, so I decided to stop by "Nakau". I ordered the Kyoto-style udon called "Haikara Udon" for 280 yen. On a cold day, udon is always a good choice. "Haikara Udon" comes with toppings like tempura crumbs, fish cakes, and green onions. The broth was very elegant and refreshing. The tempura crumbs added depth to the flavor. The noodles were smooth and had a good chewy texture. It was my first time at "Nakau". There are many of them in Kyoto, probably the most common among gyudon (beef bowl) restaurants. They offer not only gyudon but also oyakodon (chicken and egg bowl) and udon, which all look delicious. Oh, and the udon I had was tasty. The prices are reasonable too. Thank you for the meal.

By the way, when I went to Kyoto the other day, I was so short on time that I ended up having a katsudon at Nakau for dinner. I noticed that they have added new items to the menu. The oyakodon is said to be delicious, but the katsudon is also tasty. There aren't many Nakau restaurants in Kanto, but it's one of my favorite chains for gyudon. There are so many stylish restaurants in this area. I really want to go to more chic places, but I have to hold back!

Today, I went to Nakau JR Nijo Station store alone on my way home from work. I didn't feel like having beef bowl, and the pork cutlet bowl seemed too heavy, so I opted for the oyakodon. But it wasn't quite filling enough, so I also got some kitsune udon. The oyakodon was delicious for the price. I really liked the slightly runny egg. However, as a man, I wish they offered a larger portion size. They have a mini size, so I think they should also offer a large size. As for the kitsune udon, it was just average for the price.
