Located on the west side of the intersection of Kitaoji Daimon and heading north, near Daikakuji and within the Shindaimiya shopping street. If you go by car, be careful as the shopping street is a one-way street facing south. As the name suggests, Ehon Cafe Mebae is filled with cute picture books and miscellaneous goods. The shop is beautifully renovated from a traditional townhouse. It is more of a picture book cafe atmosphere rather than a traditional townhouse vibe.

On my way back from Daikakuji, I took a stroll around the area and decided to stop by this picture book cafe. The atmosphere was warm and cozy from the outside, and it felt even more welcoming inside. There were tables, a counter seat, and a bookshelf filled with picture books that customers could freely read and purchase. The cafe also had some cute trinkets on display, which I really liked. I chose to sit at a table near the entrance, and I ordered a set of "Adult Ice Cream" with hot coffee. The ice cream was generously topped with a cookie shaped like a picture book, and it had a nice flavor with nuts and raisins. The ice cream had a strong hint of liquor, which I enjoyed, but it might be too much for those who don't like alcohol. The coffee was also good and plentiful. Although I didn't have time to read a picture book that day, I would love to immerse myself in that pure world if I had the chance. As I left, the staff wished me well, and I felt content as I made my way home. Thank you for the wonderful experience!

"Futaba Shofu" opened a cafe where miscellaneous goods and theme-based picture books are placed near Daikokuji. It is located in a small shopping street. I was interested in the cute "Hungry Caterpillar Croque Monsieur Plate," but this time I just had tea, so I opted for sweets and coffee instead. The coffee is from "Cafe Vivmon Dimonsh" in Kamakura. I chose a dark roasted blend, which was a delicious coffee with a smooth and rich taste. The homemade cheesecake had a moist bottom and a smooth texture with a refreshing lemon flavor. It was light and tasty. They also have selected miscellaneous goods and sweets available for takeout. ● Castella: This is from "De Carnero Castella" in Mie Prefecture. It has a fine and moist texture, softer than typical castella, with a mild sweetness and delicious taste. ● Gourd Cookie (Vanilla): This is a cookie from "Seikatsu no Gara" in Kyoto. It has an almond powder in the cookie dough, giving it a soft and slightly crumbly texture. The renovated machiya interior creates a cozy and relaxing space. The staff is very friendly. It's not a place I can visit often, but I hope to come back again in the future.

I chose a cafe called Mebae in Kyoto because my junior came to play and I thought they would like it. Located in the northern part of Kyoto, on Shinyamagami Street, Mebae is a cafe with a charming townhouse-style exterior. It is a picture book cafe operated by Futaba Bookstore! The front side has tatami mat seating and tables. The back has a raised area where you can take off your shoes, with a counter and bookshelves. Even small children can spend time here picking up picture books. It also serves as a gallery, with exhibitions and sales. I couldn't wait to try the ●The Very Hungry Caterpillar's Croque-Monsieur Plate for 750 yen. I think everyone loved the picture book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" when they were kids, right? Even I, a glutton since childhood, was a big fan (*^^*). It's a plate with the caterpillar on it ♡ Accompanied by a ●coffee for 450 yen. Isn't it cute?!! A small caterpillar made of cherry tomatoes and edamame. It even has little antennae! Of course, it's not just cute, the Croque-Monsieur is also very delicious. The fluffy bread with cheese and ham. It's light and perfect for a snack. The gentle and cozy atmosphere surrounding the cafe is so nice. They also have baked goods, so I'd like to visit again for a leisurely snack time. Thank you for the meal ♡

This place I've been curious about since it opened!! It's a picture book cafe (。´・ω・)? I invited my mother for a walk and we went in (laughs). Inside, there are table seats, and further back there are counter seats and a kitchen (´・∀・`)ヘー There are lots of picture books, and you can even buy them♪ There are also cute miscellaneous goods and cutlery, all with such a sense of style that it's hard to decide which to choose (。・ω・。)ノ♡ But they are a bit expensive (;^ω^) This time we sat at a table♪ The menu includes croque-monsieur plates, cakes, scones, Guinness beer, drip coffee, and more (o^―^o)ニコ It seems like they pay attention to the ingredients for customers with children... Our orders this time were: - Aomori apple juice 420 yen (me) - Iced coffee 450 yen It takes quite a while, but there are plenty of things to see while waiting♡ As for the taste... - Aomori apple juice... served in the same glass as the ones for sale!! The glass is very easy to drink from and makes you want one (;'∀') The taste is sweet yet refreshing ( ´∀`)bグッ! This is something kids can enjoy tooヾ(o´∀`o)ノワァーィ♪ Overall... stepping in feels like a fairytale land!! (* ̄0 ̄)/ Wow!! Wonderful picture books for kids♪ Lovely goods, cutlery, and tableware for adults, it's a dreamland♡ Plus, they have delicious coffee and light meals, making it a cafe on the rise in popularity (*^^)v They also host events like rakugo performances regularly, expanding their customer base!! This cafe is definitely worth keeping an eye on (´∀`*)ウフフ

It had been a while since my last visit. This place has become quite popular now. It was a Saturday afternoon and almost all the tables were full. Luckily, we found a table just in time. I chose a brownie from the dessert showcase and had it with a hot coffee. As you may have noticed in the picture, the tray and the dish were matching, both by Yuiko Iihoshi. They were warm and cozy, not too flashy, and perfect for everyday use. The coffee was a bit weak, probably because the chocolate flavor was too strong. They also run a zakka shop, selling various products. They often collaborate with cool shops in the city for events. Next time, they will have Seikatsunogara's sweets coming in. This place can be used not only as a book cafe but also as an experiential cafe.

Go for it~~~!! I just had to stop by because it's so cute (/・ω・)/☆(lol) The place is about a 15-minute walk from Kita-Oji Station, less than 1km away. It's in a lovely corner of a shopping street♪(near the Calligraphy School☆)(*^-^*) It has a small traditional Japanese house style. It has a charming atmosphere that you'll immediately fall in love with☆ When you enter, you'll find a beautifully designed space that has been renovated with a touch of old Japan. It's the kind of place where you feel like lying down and relaxing... You don't even have to take off your shoes, there's a table right in front too. The restroom is located towards the back. And on the way there... there's a bookshelf covering the entire wall... sparkling, sparkling...!!( *´艸`)☆ I was staring at it, but when I came back, I saw even more... how cute♡♡((((oノ´3`)ノ The clock sandwich with a cute little caterpillar on it was so adorable!! This is something that both adults and children would love♡ And of course, it tasted delicious, with a fairytale-like charm. It was a delightful meal, thank you♡

On the way back from visiting Kyoto's Daikaku-ji Temple, I had lunch at a cozy café surrounded by congratulatory flowers for its grand opening. The interior of the café featured unique tableware, hand towels, and various knick-knacks for sale, as well as a collection of picture books. The staff kindly suggested, "Please enjoy looking at picture books while you wait." I quickly took off my shoes and headed to the space lined with countless picture books categorized by keywords. The staff mentioned that there were over 1,000 books available – more than your average bookstore! It was a refreshing experience to flip through the picture books and cleanse my mind. The clean and tidy kitchen counter, where you could watch the handmade patterns, added to the pleasant atmosphere. My lunch set, a Croque-Monsieur set for 950 yen with a drink included, arrived. The Croque-Monsieur was served on thick bread with plenty of cheese, making it deliciously filling. The hot coffee, sourced from Kamakura, was also incredibly tasty. It seemed like they used imported bread for the sandwiches. The café had a charming courtyard, stylish furniture, quality ingredients, and trendy tableware. It was a truly delightful dining experience!

In the quiet shopping street of Omiya Kitakoji, there is a hidden gem called "Futaba Shobo." Upon entering, you will find table seating on the earthen floor and a counter where you can take off your shoes. However, the main attraction here is the incredible number of books! Picture books line the shelves like a bookstore, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. The staff are friendly, and the whole place exudes a sense of history and charm. This bookstore is actually run by the local high-end bookstore "ANGERS," known for also operating a shop called "ANGERS" in the area. I ordered the "Croque Monsieur Plate" and coffee for 1,200 yen. The bread is from Cafe Kochi. After the meal, I enjoyed a homemade chai muffin and a refill of coffee. The coffee beans are from Cafe Deux Moulins in Kamakura, and they have a mild acidity and a gentle flavor. The cutlery and glasses are from Iittala, showcasing the high quality of this place. It's dangerously good here. It's like a more serious version of "Penne Nenne Nemu" as an illustrated book cafe, with a focus on the cafe experience rather than the bookstore aspect like "Kyokan." Although it's not widely advertised yet, I'm sure it will become popular. I highly recommend it, especially for moms with young children.

I had some soba noodles nearby and on my way back to the coin parking, I came across a charming picture book cafe with a lovely exterior and interior design. I was drawn in and decided to get some takeout since I was short on time. The cafe had a soothing atmosphere and the design, inspired by traditional townhouses, was simply wonderful. I was impressed by the sense of the person who designed this cafe. The staff also had that Kyoto vibe. The items I took home were carefully wrapped in oil paper to prevent the butter from making the paper bag greasy, which I really appreciated. I hate it when the paper bag gets all greasy after buying bread. The taste was delightful and conveyed a sense of kindness. I would love to come back for a leisurely tea, but it seems like it's become a very popular place, so I might have to wait in line to get in next time. I highly recommend this place to both tourists and locals.
