On November 6, 2015, the crab season opened, so I headed to the Japan Sea to enjoy some crab and hot springs. Due to traffic, I arrived around 6 pm, and I called ahead because I was going to be late for dinner. However, the response I received was unexpected. They said, "Dinner starts at 6 pm," without any consideration for my delay. Despite feeling a bit disheartened, I decided to make the best of it and enjoy the crab and hot springs at the inn "Sakamotoya." The official website advertised spacious rooms with a sun porch, 24-hour hot springs (without an outdoor bath), and meals priced around 20,000 yen per person, so my expectations were high. However, upon arrival, I was shown to a room without a sun porch, which was disappointing. I asked for a short break since I had just arrived, but was told that dinner was only until 9 pm. I changed into a yukata and headed to the dining room on the first floor. The crab sashimi was delicious, and the grilled crab was flavorful. The crab hot pot was the highlight, with a rich broth and fresh vegetables. As time was running out, we hurriedly enjoyed the meal, with even the dessert being served promptly. Before I could finish my crab hot pot, they brought out sorbet, which I had to eat quickly before it melted. Finally, I savored the crab rice porridge before heading to the hot springs for a relaxing soak. Despite some hiccups, the crab feast was delicious. The next morning, I was looking forward to breakfast, but the rice was delayed. The miso soup with crab and onsen tamago were delightful, but the service was rushed as they reminded us of the 10 am check-out time. In conclusion, while the crab was excellent, the service and customer care left much to be desired, leading to a lower rating for the overall experience. Additionally, the cleanliness of the dining area could have been improved.
