Sushi Momonoki in Kyoto City, Shimogyo-ku, Sakura-cho is located about a 6-minute walk from Kyoto Station on the JR Tokaido Main Line. After the end of the corona pandemic, people are going out all over Japan and tourism is showing a V-shaped recovery. I found a limited-time event at Higashi Honganji Temple, the "Ohigashi-san Monzen Mirai Project", which includes a beer market and brass band performances. It looked interesting, so my partner and I decided to go check it out. After having fun for a while, we got hungry and decided to eat nearby before heading home. We found a sushi restaurant located in the basement of the Bouquet Garni building at the Karasuma Shichijo intersection. It is supervised by a restaurant that has won the Michelin award for 8 consecutive years, which is quite impressive. The restaurant just opened on August 22nd this year, and the interior is sparkling new with a counter seating for 8 people. We opted for the special commemorative course priced at 10,000 yen, which included appetizers, 9 pieces of sushi, spring rolls, ikura rice bowl, chawanmushi, rolled omelette, almond tofu, and more. The appetizers were Chinese jellyfish, watercress salad, and mapo eggplant, which were all delicious and had a sophisticated taste. The sushi, made with red vinegar, was excellent, especially the sea urchin and salmon roe. The steamed egg custard with shark fin was luxurious, and the spring roll with hairy crab was a surprising addition. The course also included clam soup, almond tofu dessert, and more. The fusion of Edo-style sushi with red vinegar and the influence of a renowned Chinese restaurant made the dining experience unique and satisfying. The price of 11,000 yen, including service charge, was surprisingly reasonable for such a luxurious meal. This special course is a limited-time offer, so it's uncertain how long it will be available.
