I heard that a new sushi restaurant opened on the way back after enjoying matcha in Uji and exploring various things, so I visited "Kyoto Sushi Momonoki" located in a very convenient location right in front of Kyoto Station. This restaurant offers a fusion of Chinese and Japanese cuisine, created by the same team behind the Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant Momonoki in Akasaka, Tokyo. It is quietly located in the basement of a building, with only a counter and one table seat. You can enjoy a relaxing and quiet dining experience. We started with a toast with champagne. They also have a wide selection of wines and sake. The omakase sushi course for 15,000 yen includes Chinese appetizers such as 5 kinds of traditional Chinese dishes like drooling chicken, mapo eggplant, and shrimp chili. Each dish is carefully prepared and delicious. The sushi course includes various sushi such as sword tip squid with yuzu salt, olive flounder with wood buds, horse mackerel from Chiba, scallop with lemon soy sauce, and a small bowl of ikura and purple sea urchin from Hokkaido. The sushi is amazing, with flavors ranging from the sweetness of the olive flounder to the richness of the scallop. The crab and shiso spring roll with caviar on top was a luxurious dish with a crispy texture and rich flavors. The shark fin and crab shantan, and the clam soup were refreshing dishes. The sushi course also included horse mackerel from Wakayama, fatty tuna and lean tuna from Miyagi, conger eel from Akashi, and more. The meal ended with a delicious almond jelly dessert. Overall, the quality of the sushi was excellent, and the combination of Chinese and Japanese dishes was a luxurious and enjoyable experience.

On the night of September 25, 2023, I tried the omakase sushi course for 15,000 yen at a sushi restaurant in Kyoto run by the team behind the Michelin-starred "Akasaka Momonoki" in Tokyo. The menu featured a fusion of Chinese cuisine elements from the original Momonoki, skillfully adjusted to suit the sushi restaurant with a perfect balance of ingredients and flavors. While maintaining the essence of a sushi restaurant, the unique dishes offered here were truly a delight that made the sake flow freely. The menu included a variety of dishes such as assorted appetizers, scallops, and mehikari, along with sushi featuring sea bream, squid, horse mackerel, striped jack, and more. Additionally, there were dishes like king crab spring rolls and a dessert of almond tofu with clam soup.

This time it was lunch, but I was very impressed by how punctual they were with their work. The interior of the restaurant was very clean and had a sense of cleanliness, probably because it had only been open for a month. The meal started with appetizers, and there were some dishes with Chinese ingredients mixed in with the Japanese cuisine, which was fun and enjoyable. They also paid attention to the ingredients, using fish and vegetables from various regions in Japan, which were explained by the owner and tasted incredibly delicious. If possible, I recommend sitting at the counter seat where you can interact with the owner. ❤️

I heard that the Michelin-starred Akasaka Momonoki has opened a sushi restaurant in Kyoto, so I decided to visit right away. They have a special opening course menu, featuring creative Chinese appetizers and traditional sushi. The Chinese appetizers included jellyfish, mapo eggplant, and stir-fried greens. The sushi selection was impressive, with options like sea bream, swordtip squid with yuzu salt, amberjack, horse mackerel, scallop, and more. The rice was smooth and the sushi pieces were small and easy to eat. The uni and ikura were included in the course and were served promptly alongside the other dishes. Everything was delicious, especially the fresh and tasty blue fish. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the Chinese dishes as well. The special opening course is priced at 10,000 yen, which I found to be very reasonable. The drink menu is extensive, offering sake, shochu, glass and bottle wines, fruit liqueurs, and soft drinks. You can enjoy your favorite drink with sushi and Chinese dishes. The atmosphere of the restaurant is luxurious and calm, and the service is excellent. I had a comfortable dining experience. I heard that the lunch menu is even more affordable. This restaurant has become one of the places I want to visit again. *Located about a 3-minute walk from JR Kyoto Station. Counter seats and private rooms are available.

I was able to visit Sushi Momonoki. The location is great, right next to Kyoto Tower, directly across from Kyoto Station. The entrance to the restaurant, located in the basement of a building, has a nice atmosphere. Upon opening the door, you are greeted by a counter seat area. There are also several private rooms available. This time, I enjoyed sushi at the counter seat. I tried the special course, which is a collaboration of creative Chinese cuisine and sushi. The chef and his assistant were both young and skillfully prepared the dishes. To start, we had three Chinese appetizers: Chinese jellyfish, mapo eggplant, and stir-fried water spinach. Then, we had a total of 10 pieces of sushi, starting with sea bream and then swordtip squid with yuzu salt. This was followed by amberjack, horse mackerel, and seared surf clam, which was particularly delicious. Next came medium-fatty tuna, striped jack, and marinated lean tuna. Then, we had conger eel and shrimp with sea urchin sauce. In between the sushi, we also enjoyed a small bowl of salmon roe, a spring roll with hairy crab and glass noodles topped with caviar, hairy crab and glass noodles in a shantang jelly, and tamago. Lastly, we had clam soup to finish the meal. I'm not a heavy drinker, but I enjoyed shochu with my meal. It was a very elegant and enjoyable dining experience at the atmospheric counter seat. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I heard that a new sushi restaurant opened near Kyoto Station, so I went to visit right away! It is located on the basement floor of a building right next to a busy intersection. As soon as you exit the elevator, you will see the entrance of the luxurious restaurant. I made a reservation for the special course to celebrate the opening. I sat at the counter and waited for the dishes to arrive. First, we had appetizers: watercress, Chinese jellyfish, and drooling chicken, all of which were delicious. The drooling chicken was incredibly tender. Next, we had nigiri sushi: sea bream, swordtip squid, horse mackerel, amberjack, and amberjack with salmon roe on top. We also enjoyed Chinese-style dishes like hairy crab spring rolls with caviar topping and hairy crab and glass noodle in Shantang jelly. The second half of the sushi course included medium fatty tuna, surf clam, marinated tuna, and eel, with the eel being particularly impressive. We also had shrimp wrapped in kataifi pastry, which had a crispy texture and delicious prawn filling. The uni sauce added a delightful aroma. The egg dish was like a pudding, and the clam soup was comforting. For dessert, we had almond tofu, which had a rich and milky flavor. The staff were very friendly, and I felt comfortable throughout the meal. I would love to visit this restaurant again for special occasions!

Kyoto Patrol♪ I found out on Instagram that the famous Chinese restaurant Momonoki in Akasaka has opened a sushi restaurant, so I went to check it out right away. The location is very close to JR Kyoto Station, on the basement floor of a building on the northeast corner of the Karasuma Shichijo intersection. It's convenient to access from the underground mall, even on rainy days. I went with a friend who made a reservation for the limited-time opening course, which was a total of 19 dishes for 10,000 yen. The fusion of Nouvelle Chinoise cuisine and sushi was a delightful experience. The dishes included appetizers, sushi, a bowl of ikura, a special dish of glass noodles and hairy crab, a spring roll with hairy crab and caviar, and more. The quality and variety of the food were impressive. The atmosphere was cozy, and the service was excellent. Overall, it was a great dining experience. Highly recommended!

I used this restaurant when I stopped by Kyoto for work. Located in a building about a 3-minute walk from Kyoto Station, the underground shop greeted me with a fantastic atmosphere. The interior of the shop is great, with private rooms available, making it suitable for various occasions like business meetings or dates. I tried the special course for the grand opening that day, which included 3 types of appetizers, 9 pieces of sushi, seasonal spring rolls, salmon roe rice bowl, daily special dish, rolled omelet, and almond tofu dessert. Every dish showed a lot of attention to detail, but the sushi in particular was delicious! They are very particular about their ingredients and preparation, and you can immediately tell how delicious it is when you eat it! The staff's service was also very polite, and by the end of the meal, I was thinking "Ah, I've had some proper sushi!" (Satisfied with both the quantity and quality) They seem to also offer lunch, so I would like to visit again!

I stopped by a sushi restaurant that spun off from the Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant in Akasaka during my trip to Kyoto. The opening commemorative course was quite cost-effective. Not only was the sushi delicious, but it also had Chinese gimmicks incorporated here and there, making it a bit different and enjoyable compared to other sushi restaurants.

Today, I went shopping at Kyoto Station and felt like having sushi on my way back, so I decided to try out the newly opened restaurant "Kyoto Sushi Momonoki" for dinner. I called ahead to secure a seat before arriving, as it would be disappointing if it was fully booked. The restaurant is located on B1 of a bright pink building right after coming up from the underground passage, and it still had celebratory orchids on display. The excitement of dining at this new establishment, which is supervised by the Michelin-starred "Momonoki" in Akasaka, was palpable. The counter with a distinctive L-shape was clean and there were about three table seats available. I was seated at the special seat near the preparation area, and the head chef greeted me with a smile. I opted for the opening anniversary course, and started with a toast with a glass of draft beer. I enjoyed the appetizers of mapo eggplant, Chinese jellyfish, and saliva chicken. It was refreshing to experience Chinese flavors in a sushi restaurant, and each dish was delicately prepared not to overpower the sushi. The nigiri sushi started with flounder, followed by seared black snapper, rose sashimi with a blend of red and white vinegar, and more. The balance of flavors in the dishes highlighted the freshness of the ingredients. I particularly enjoyed the shark fin chawanmushi, which had a sophisticated balance of Chinese flavors and the silky texture of the shark fin. The finale of shrimp kataifi rolls was also delightful, with a crispy texture unique to freshly made kataifi and a perfect mayonnaise sauce. I highly recommend trying this dish when you visit. The special course for the opening anniversary made it easy to enjoy a sushi dinner at a reasonable price, and I had a great time enjoying the fusion of Chinese and sushi flavors. "Thank you for the meal."

Sushi Momonoki in Kyoto City, Shimogyo-ku, Sakura-cho is located about a 6-minute walk from Kyoto Station on the JR Tokaido Main Line. After the end of the corona pandemic, people are going out all over Japan and tourism is showing a V-shaped recovery. I found a limited-time event at Higashi Honganji Temple, the "Ohigashi-san Monzen Mirai Project", which includes a beer market and brass band performances. It looked interesting, so my partner and I decided to go check it out. After having fun for a while, we got hungry and decided to eat nearby before heading home. We found a sushi restaurant located in the basement of the Bouquet Garni building at the Karasuma Shichijo intersection. It is supervised by a restaurant that has won the Michelin award for 8 consecutive years, which is quite impressive. The restaurant just opened on August 22nd this year, and the interior is sparkling new with a counter seating for 8 people. We opted for the special commemorative course priced at 10,000 yen, which included appetizers, 9 pieces of sushi, spring rolls, ikura rice bowl, chawanmushi, rolled omelette, almond tofu, and more. The appetizers were Chinese jellyfish, watercress salad, and mapo eggplant, which were all delicious and had a sophisticated taste. The sushi, made with red vinegar, was excellent, especially the sea urchin and salmon roe. The steamed egg custard with shark fin was luxurious, and the spring roll with hairy crab was a surprising addition. The course also included clam soup, almond tofu dessert, and more. The fusion of Edo-style sushi with red vinegar and the influence of a renowned Chinese restaurant made the dining experience unique and satisfying. The price of 11,000 yen, including service charge, was surprisingly reasonable for such a luxurious meal. This special course is a limited-time offer, so it's uncertain how long it will be available.

Tokyo's renowned Chinese restaurant "Akasaka Momonoki," which has won the Michelin award for 8 consecutive years, has opened a sushi restaurant! The location is less than a 5-minute walk from Kyoto Station. The hospitality is top-notch, with a strong focus on ingredients, ambiance, and technique. Starting with 5 appetizers and ending with the restaurant's specialty dish, "Shrimp wrapped in Kataifi," we enjoyed both authentic sushi and Chinese cuisine throughout the meal. The course menu may vary, but we were able to savor unique ingredients. The origin of each ingredient was explained in detail, showcasing the restaurant's dedication to quality. The selection of sake was also impressive, complementing dishes like shark fin, Shizuoka caviar, Goto Islands swordtip squid, Miyagi Shiotani tuna, and Hokkaido scallops, sea urchin, and salmon roe. The homemade almond pudding served at the end was delicious. The dining experience lasted about 2 hours, with dishes served at a good pace. Good evening ( ̄Д ̄)ノ Lately, I've been really craving sushi, so I did some research and found a new sushi restaurant near Kyoto Station, called Sushi Momonoki (#99, Bouquet Garni B1F, Shimooya-cho, Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto City, Kyoto). I went there with my father-in-law and mother-in-law, and we drove there together (my mother-in-law doesn't drink alcohol). We were all prepared with our wallets and ready to eat some delicious sushi (๑・㉨・๑). As we got closer, I realized that I had been to this building before, where I had some tasty sushi not too long ago. It's in the same building! Could this be a fish paradise? The restaurant is located one floor below the previous one I visited. The atmosphere as we descended was quite nice (´-ω-)ウム. We entered the restaurant through the curtain and were seated at the counter, as we had made a reservation in advance. We started with a toast of beer and oolong tea (`・з・)ノU○. The appetizers included three types of dishes, such as spicy chicken and jellyfish with eggplant miso. The beer quickly disappeared, so I moved on to hot sake. We enjoyed various sushi items like swordtip squid, flounder, striped jack, scallop, red sea bream, salmon roe, and more. Each dish was delicious and left a lasting impression. The meal ended with a special course for 10,000 yen per person, which included a delightful dessert. Overall, it was a satisfying and enjoyable dining experience. Thank you for the great food and service!

The sushi restaurant that opened on 8/22. I had a dinner course for 15,000 yen! A new style incorporating Chinese elements with 5 types of appetizers, stir-fried water spinach, Chinese jellyfish, mapo eggplant, Awa Oji chicken breast tataki, sea urchin and creamy tofu. The appetizers were a mix of Chinese flavors - the jellyfish was crunchy, the mapo eggplant was mildly spicy and delicious. The chicken tataki was excellent with a unique twist. The seared bonito with wasabi jelly had a fragrant smoky aroma and the cuttlefish with yuzu salt was chewy and refreshing. The soy sauce with kombu enhanced the sushi toppings. The Hokkaido scallop with baked seaweed and lemon soy sauce was tender and flavorful. The seared belly of golden eye snapper from Chiba prefecture was fatty and crispy, very tasty! The shrimp and hairy crab spring roll with oyster sauce, caviar and gold leaf was a luxurious treat. The sea urchin and salmon roe bowl with yuzu fragrance was a classic combination. The simmered shark fin was crunchy and delicious, not too spicy. The natural tuna from Shiomamachi, Miyagi prefecture, was rich and paired well with the soy sauce. The marinated tuna with yuzu peel was fragrant and delicious. The seared black spotted grouper with yuzu salt was savory and fragrant. The red snapper from Akashi was also delicious. The eel from Akashi was melt-in-your-mouth tender. The anago was a surprising delight, melting like char siu. The steamed egg was sweet and smooth. The shrimp wrapped in kataifi pastry with special sea urchin sauce was a luxurious and impressive finish. The clam soup with whole clams was delightful. The dessert was an orange almond tofu mousse with a refreshing taste. Everything was truly delicious and satisfying. Definitely worth a visit!

Tokyo's famous Chinese restaurant 'Akasaka Momonoki', which has won the Michelin award for 8 consecutive years, opened a sushi restaurant in Kyoto on August 22nd! Located just a 5-minute walk from JR Kyoto Station, 'Kyoto Sushi Momonoki' is in the basement of a building, offering easy access and a quiet atmosphere that makes you forget you are in the center of Kyoto. The red curtain at the entrance leads to a white counter and private rooms, exuding a sense of luxury unique to sushi restaurants with the warmth of wood and the dignified presence of the chefs. I tried the omakase sushi course for 15,000 yen including tax. The course included 5 appetizers, sashimi, seasonal spring rolls, 10 pieces of nigiri sushi, uni and ikura rice bowl, chawanmushi, rolled sushi, soup, almond tofu, and more. Each piece of sushi showcased the craftsmanship of the chefs, with a perfect balance of vinegar, carefully prepared rice, and selected ingredients that melted in your mouth. The refreshing aroma of citrus, the subtle kick of wasabi, the savory taste of soy sauce all came together in a delightful harmony. The eel sushi was particularly unforgettable, with its melt-in-your-mouth texture leaving a lasting impression. The surprise of having stewed shark fin at a sushi restaurant was a delightful treat. The staff also checked on our well-being during the meal, showing great attention to detail. Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience that I would love to share with loved ones.
