I have visited many times, but this was my first time having lunch here. Inside the pita bread was pork and lotus root kinpira. The flavor was rich and it paired well with the bread. I opted for the coffee set, served as iced coffee. The coffee was generously poured and helped cool down my body in the hot summer. The atmosphere is just fantastic. I highly recommend it to my friends.

I stopped by for a light lunch. They offer a pita bread sandwich with coffee or tea for only 790 yen (such a great deal!). I tried the pork and lotus root kimpura sandwich, which was quite delicious. I also had another sandwich with marmalade, which served as a dessert. The café had a charming atmosphere with a traditional Japanese building. The most memorable part was the small Hina dolls exhibition on the second floor of the café. The owner's wife, who collects Hina dolls from all over Japan, decorates them with care every year during this season. The dolls were made of various materials such as ceramics, wood, and fabric, each representing different regions of Japan. It was a delightful and visually pleasing experience. The café also hosts various events like rakugo performances every month, which sounds like a lot of fun.

In the rain, I visited the café "Salon Junpei" that I had listed up. The name of the shop seems to come from the names of the brothers Jun and Hei, and on this day, Pei was there! It's a café in a traditional Kyoto townhouse built in the early Showa period. There are also rental spaces on the second floor and in the garden! As I was about to take off my shoes and enter the café space, something caught my eye in the back! It was a model of this building made by an acquaintance! This model of the Kyoto townhouse building is meticulously reproduced! It's amazing, so if you have the chance to visit, be sure to take a look! The tatami room had sunken kotatsu-style seating so our feet didn't get tired. We were seated at a table next to the garden where we could enjoy the view. We ordered coffee and "Junpei Mochi." The combination of kinako and shiratama was exquisite and very delicious! The "Matcha Pudding" my wife ordered was a rich pudding with a perfect match of matcha and red bean, and it was very delicious. There was a handmade cat figurine placed near the entrance. Made of paper clay, it had various expressions and I ended up buying it on impulse (laughs).

Located on Kitaoji Street, a short walk from Shimogamo Hon-dori, Salon Junpei is a cozy Japanese cafe that feels like stepping into someone's home. The atmosphere is calming and inviting, making it a perfect place to unwind. Upstairs, there is a display of around 100 intricately crafted hina dolls, which is truly impressive. I would love to revisit this nostalgic cafe whenever I feel like it.

I passed by the shop and casually entered. It's cold outside, so I ordered a warm sweet red bean soup. It was ¥600 and had a lot of soup, with a slightly light taste. The salted kelp enhances the sweetness. It felt like good quality ingredients were used. The roasted green tea aroma was fragrant and very delicious. When I visited, elderly neighbors seemed to be gathering. It was much more comfortable than being surrounded by couples as a solo customer. The tatami mat seating is in a sunken kotatsu style, making it easy to relax. It seems like they renovated thoroughly to create a cozy atmosphere. I felt like the old townhouse had been completely reborn and injected with new energy.

A townhouse café facing a slightly off main street in Kamogawa Hon-dori. After passing through the elegant entrance, you will find a sophisticated and modern Japanese atmosphere with tables made from stunning single slabs of wood. The prime seats overlooking the garden are set with two antique chairs that add a picturesque touch with a slight incline, creating a charming space that showcases the traditional townhouse. Craft items and dishes are tastefully displayed, adding to the refined ambiance. There are sunken kotatsu tables under some of the regular tables, allowing guests to relax for extended periods. On this day, I chose coffee with a side of baked goods. As it was Valentine's Day, they also included chocolate. Above all, the warm hospitality of the positive-thinking beautiful lady owner seems to elevate the charm of this café. I visited on a Saturday afternoon, and it appeared to be a gathering place for locals. With its gallery setting, you can enjoy tea time while admiring the many dishes and craft items on display. I hope that tourists can also experience this wonderful space. It was a gallery café that provides a high-quality and relaxing atmosphere for gatherings.

After eating tsukemen at Ambishasu Hana, I was planning to check out the parking lot and if it was empty, I would go in. Luckily, the former rice shop had been renovated into a café with a gallery attached. I took off my shoes and entered, sitting at a large sunken kotatsu-style table with room for about 5-6 people, sharing it with another customer. I ordered the cream anmitsu (580 yen) and enjoyed the lively atmosphere of the café. It felt like a social space, and the cream anmitsu, while nothing extraordinary, tasted delicious in the warm room. I can't comment on the coffee, but it seems they have a special focus on it, so coffee lovers should give it a try. After relaxing for a bit, I left the café, thinking not "let's go again" but rather "let's drop by again."

I finally visited this restaurant that I had always wanted to go to. There were not many pictures on the food blog, so I was curious about what it would be like. It turned out to be a lovely traditional Japanese house. When I entered the shop, a very cheerful lady greeted me and even explained about the building. It used to be a rice shop long ago, so there are remnants of that history throughout the building. The high ceilings and old sliding doors really give a sense of the past. The shop had been operating in a different location before, but they moved to this beautifully renovated old rice shop a year ago. You have to take off your shoes to enter, and there is a well-maintained courtyard in the back which adds a nice atmosphere. There are two large tables where several people can sit, a nice wooden table, and a table that has been converted into a sunken kotatsu. There are also a few chair seats. The menu consists of drinks and traditional Japanese sweets. Enjoying the sweets while looking at the courtyard is very relaxing. I had a fun conversation with the lady too. They also pay attention to the pottery they use, and all the pottery items are lovely. They also sell coffee cups and teacups. I asked about the origin of the name "Junpei-san". I thought the tall handsome guy in the shop was "Junpei-san", but he said, "I'm Hei (Pei)" with a laugh. The name actually comes from the eldest son's name, "Jun○", and the second son's name, "○Hei", taking one character from each to form "Salon Junpei-san". If this shop was near my house, I would definitely become a regular customer.

Junpei Special: The view of the small garden is like a microcosm. It exudes a beauty and simplicity that goes beyond aesthetic consciousness. Rather than being packed in, it is arranged in a way that hints at the seasons and tranquility. As the faint scent of water drifts by, a gentle kindness is felt, and a single drop falls silently in the moment. Under the sleeping moon, I quietly gazed at the ripples spreading in my heart.
Junpei's Cream Anmitsu: walnut mochi, matcha shiratama and matcha agar, chestnut, sweet red bean paste, white syrup, and ice cream. Despite the variety of ingredients, it doesn't feel crowded, and it blends well with the familiar vessel, resembling a small garden. Delicious.
Salon = a place where people gather. Those who are invited or visit will surely spend a relaxing and leisurely time to their heart's content. It has a vibe and atmosphere like an open house rather than a store. Why not take your time and relax here too? For more, visit my blog at your leisure.

I was looking for a place to have a quick coffee break and happened to pass by this charming cafe. It's located in a renovated traditional Kyoto townhouse, with a lovely atmosphere. The back courtyard has been preserved, and the veranda has tatami flooring with small tables and chairs. The central room has two large tables like sunken kotatsu, where about 8 people can sit comfortably. We ordered a hot coffee, yuzu and lime soda, and a sweet rice cake called Junpei Mochi. Everything was delicious. The coffee had a great aroma, flavor, and perfect temperature. The Junpei Mochi had a creamy walnut filling that paired well with the black coffee. The soda had a generous amount of lime, with yuzu jam at the bottom of the glass. Not only the interior of the cafe but also the menu showed a sense of style. The staff was friendly and provided attentive service. It's a place I would definitely like to visit again.

During Golden Week, I visited a friend in Kyoto and took a stroll around Shimogamo. While waiting for my friend, I wanted to take a break and found a lovely Japanese-style café. I entered the entrance, took off my shoes, and was guided to a tatami room with a nice scent. I originally planned to drink coffee, but ended up ordering an iced matcha latte due to the atmosphere. The weather was clear, and a small, charming garden was open, letting in a pleasant breeze. The customers were mostly elderly travelers, but I think it's also a recommended place for younger people. They provided syrup separately for the matcha latte, so you could adjust the sweetness, which was nice. I definitely want to visit this place again next time.
