Located near Subway Kitayama Station in Sakyo-ku, Kyoto City, across from Rekisai-kan, is a okonomiyaki restaurant with a noticeable curtain, making it easy to find. There is a parking lot about 50m to the east, making it accessible by both train and car. I visited the restaurant over 10 years ago and recently returned after a long time. The spacious counter seats all have teppanyaki grills, with several table seats also available. The lunch menu displayed inside the restaurant is impressive, with a wide variety of set meals including tonkatsu, karaage, daily side dishes, and pork okonomiyaki set meals. The pork okonomiyaki looked delicious. Priced at 900 yen plus tax. When it was served, I was surprised by the variety of dishes included - two small side dishes, salad, pickles, and miso soup. It was lively and satisfying. The salad was generous, and the rice portion was also good. And the main dish, the pork okonomiyaki, was served piping hot and had a unique taste due to being cooked on a teppanyaki grill. There was a sense of satisfaction beyond the price. There were also three other groups of customers besides myself. Despite its somewhat inconvenient location, I could see why this restaurant has been in business for a long time.

Located south of Kitayama Station on the Kyoto subway, across from Kyoto Prefectural University, is a popular teishoku restaurant. It had been a while since I had been in this area, and I was drawn in by the sign advertising their obanzai teishoku. The interior had counter seats and raised tatami seating, and was quite spacious. It was lunchtime and there were quite a few customers, making it lively. They offered Kirin and Asahi bottled beer, and I ordered a Kirin medium bottle for ¥650. I was tempted by the okonomiyaki being cooked right in front of me, but I stuck to my initial choice and ordered the obanzai teishoku for ¥1100. The obanzai teishoku that day included simmered squid and daikon, simmered eggplant, daikon with egg sauce, fried egg, stir-fried cabbage and pork, stir-fried bell peppers and small fish, Chinese-style vermicelli salad, carrot pickles, seaweed soup, and rice. Everything paired well with the beer. They offered me seconds on rice, but I declined since I was enjoying my beer. The rice was cooked perfectly and delicious. If I lived nearby, I would definitely become a regular. I enjoyed my meal.

A okonomiyaki restaurant located in Kitayama. They have a wide variety of teppanyaki dishes, and offer several set meals for lunch. When I visited after lunchtime, the counter was full of local customers. I ordered the fried chicken set meal for 800 yen. The portion of fried chicken was a bit small for the price, and it seemed a little overcooked. However, considering the low price, it was acceptable.

The lunch prices are reasonable with over 10 options available for 1,000 yen or less. The restaurant has a counter with 12 seats and 3 tables in a traditional teppanyaki style. I ordered the salmon fry set meal, which was cost-effective and tasted decent. I am considering coming back for dinner next time.

We used it for a family dinner! It seems that it has been featured on a TV show as well! [Appetizer] 4 types [Teppanyaki] Okonomiyaki, squid and pork teppanyaki, chijimi, Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, simmered bamboo shoots, firefly squid with vinegar miso dressing [Drinks] Draft beer (Kirin), bottled beer (Sapporo Red Label, Lager) The location is about a 15-minute walk from Kitayama Station, with parking available, making it quite convenient. There are tatami and counter seats, and today we were seated at the counter. There is a teppan grill at the counter, and we were able to enjoy watching the chefs cook and interact with them. We started with appetizers, which were like homemade side dishes. There were four of us, and we enjoyed four different side dishes, all of which were delicious. The teppanyaki dishes were cooked right in front of us, so we could enjoy them hot and fresh. The chef even wrote "Heisei" on top of the okonomiyaki with mayonnaise as a nice touch, and also gave us complimentary ice cream when we left. They also serve lunch, offering home-cooked dishes, so I would love to visit again!

When you feel like eating okonomiyaki at night, this place has become my favorite recently. It's a bit south from Kitayama Station along Shimogamo Nakadori. You'll see the sign for "Kokoya" on the east side of the corner. The okonomiyaki mix costs 780 yen including tax (842 yen). The classic toppings are okonomiyaki sauce and mayonnaise. The mix contains plenty of shrimp, squid, beef, and cabbage. It's a tempting okonomiyaki to eat! When you eat this, you'll think, "Ah, I must really like flour-based dishes, I must be from Kansai." They also have "modern-yaki" with yakisoba noodles, but they don't have Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki.

Located near the subway station Ⓜ Kitayama in Kyoto's Shimogamo area, "Okonomiyaki Koko-ya" is a highly recommended place for flour-based dishes. They serve okonomiyaki and yakisoba until 1:00 AM, but they will close at midnight if there are no customers. Their menu mainly consists of okonomiyaki, yakisoba, and various teppanyaki dishes. In addition to these, they also offer a variety of set meals. It's a popular spot for those craving okonomiyaki, yakisoba, or teppanyaki late at night. The restaurant has a parking lot nearby and is located on the south side, five shops east of the main street. The "Mixed Yakisoba" is a must-try, with plenty of cabbage and bonito flakes. The noodles are slightly thicker and come with meat, shrimp, and squid. The dish is served on a hot teppan grill, and customers can enjoy it by picking from the grill in front of them. The restaurant has around 10 counter seats and a few raised tatami seating at the back. The warm teppan grill is especially comforting on cold nights. Sitting at the counter is recommended for a more engaging dining experience. The Mixed Yakisoba costs 780 yen (excluding tax).

I stopped by for lunch during my break from work. There is a parking lot a short walk east of the restaurant. Inside, there is a counter and tatami seating. Since I was dining alone, I sat at the counter. I ordered the following: - Yakisoba set meal for 650 yen - Kasujiru (soup made with sake lees) for 280 yen - Beef tendon stew for 530 yen In addition to set meals, you can also order dishes from the evening menu, which is a nice option. The yakisoba had medium-thick noodles with a lightly flavored sauce that smelled delicious. It contained vegetables and pork, and was very tasty! It went well with rice. But most importantly, the kasujiru was incredibly delicious. The sake lees were rich, and the soup was filled with finely chopped vegetables and pork. It was exquisite! I want to eat this every year. The beef tendon stew was also tender, sweet, and savory. I will definitely visit again. Thank you for the meal.

During my student days, I often relied on this place after club activities. I loved the pork ginger set meal, which was so filling even after practice. I still visit occasionally for lunch on weekends. The potato salad that comes with almost every set meal is probably one of the best I've had, with a punch of pepper that stands out, even among potato salad lovers like me.

At the #Kokoie restaurant in front of Kitayama Prefectural University in Kyoto. It's a teppanyaki restaurant with a variety of obanzai-style dishes and plenty of sake that goes well with them. The photo shows the simmered eggplant with herring, where the aroma of the herring transfers well to the eggplant, making it delicious. The herring itself has a good flavor, making it a doubly delicious dish! The seasoned dried daikon radish served as an appetizer was also delicious. The horse mackerel fry was also a favorite and made my taste buds sing. I wanted to try the okonomiyaki, but I ordered too many side dishes and ended up too full to do so. Next time, I definitely want to order the okonomiyaki as well. Thank you for the delicious meal!

I had yakisoba mix, and my friend had butatama okonomiyaki. The restaurant is located on the east side of the street going down from Kitayama Shimokamo Chudori, about 50 meters south from Kitayama Station. It's around the area of Kyoto Concert Hall. They are open until 1:00 AM, which is convenient for late-night dining. We shared the yakisoba, ordering a large portion. For the okonomiyaki, we chose okonomiyaki sauce with mayonnaise. My friend also ordered the butter-grilled fu. I was worried that it might be crowded on a Friday night, but luckily it was empty. The calm, Japanese-style interior has a counter with 14 seats on the left and a raised seating area with 12 seats (3 tables) on the right. The menu offers a variety of options, with over 70 dishes including okonomiyaki, yakisoba, omelets, rice dishes (ochazuke, grilled onigiri, etc.), side dishes (teppanyaki), and more. The owner and a man with a shaved head handle the cooking. You can watch them prepare your food at the counter. The yakisoba mix has plenty of bonito flakes, with small shrimp, squid, pork, cabbage, onions, and no eggs. The okonomiyaki is generously topped with sauce and mayonnaise, with lots of bonito flakes, plenty of cabbage, and eggs. The butter-grilled fu is made with three types of small-sized fu in green, yellow, and beige, with a delicate flavor of butter and salt. This restaurant also offers lunch options for under 1,000 yen, with a focus on fried foods and side dishes, so I would like to visit for lunch sometime.

Within walking distance from Kitayama Station, about 3 minutes away. Head down Kitayama Street towards Shimo-Kamo Nakadori, east of Shinsindo in Kitayama, then turn south at the intersection. It's right in front of the new school building of the prefectural university, with Kyoto Concert Hall on the right. ⭕At night, they mainly serve okonomiyaki and teppanyaki, with a wide variety of menu items including dishes that go well with alcohol. During the day, they offer set meals (karaage, tonkatsu, ginger pork, yakisoba, etc.), which I have enjoyed. I will later include prices in the captions of the photos.

Kyoto Kitayama Series Kyoto Prefectural University Mae's okonomiyaki restaurant. At night, you can enjoy teppanyaki. This was my first visit for lunch. Looking at the menu, they offer dishes like yakisoba set meal and pork ginger stir-fry, typical of local diners, starting from 650 yen (excluding tax). As the 4th biggest tonkatsu lover in Kyoto, I chose the tonkatsu set meal without hesitation. Despite having a splendid teppan in front of me, I couldn't help but wonder why tonkatsu. While the pork cutlet was being fried, the vegetables were neatly arranged, with a generous serving of cabbage and potato salad. The tonkatsu was fried to perfection. It was delicious with the sweet and tangy sauce. If you don't specify, they give you quite a large portion of rice, so if you're watching your carb intake, you can ask for "less rice." On another day, I visited for dinner and had teppanyaki, pork pay, etc. Dinner is not as affordable as lunch, but you can enjoy freshly grilled dishes right in front of you. Thank you for the meal, I look forward to visiting again.
