There is a bakery inside Shijo Station. I bought cream puffs, curry bread, and red bean buns on my way to Kyoto Station. They were all delicious and perfect for breakfast. I would love to go there again.

Once again, I was at the office without eating anything and it was already evening, so I went to a nearby bakery called "Shitsuya" to buy some snack-like bread. Personally, I like the cooking breads at Shitsuya, such as "Cascoute" and "Tamago Sand"! Next time, I want to try the regular size Cascoute and the "Makunouchi Sand".

My son told me about a famous bread called "Kyokarune" in Kyoto, so I had him get some for takeout. As a resident of Hyogo, I am not familiar with the name "Shitsuya" or the product name "Kyokarune" at all, so is it really delicious? Kyokarune costs 230 yen, which is a bit expensive, but the taste is simply delicious. The ingredients are boneless ham and onions (they did a good job). Onions are essential for this Karune. I'm not sure about the bread dough, but there is something delicious about it that doesn't get old. The simple and long-lasting taste must be the secret of its popularity. "Karune" means a notebook in French. The name "Kyokarune" is said to be derived from the subway tickets in Paris, as stated on their website.

A long-established bakery in Kyoto with multiple locations. They are famous for their Carne sandwich (230 yen) which consists of ham and onions sandwiched between bread. My parent wanted to eat it again, so I bought it. The bread is inspired by German Kaisersemmel, slightly firm and round, with special margarine spread on it. The filling is only onions and ham, keeping it simple. I don't usually like margarine, so it adds a bit of a junk food feel, but I think this was already taken into account. Without the margarine, it would just be a British-style sandwich with only the filling. I believe they have managed to balance the overall taste well.

I'm happy that there is a Shitsuya near the nearest station. On this day, I bought Hokkaido Melon Pan for 190 yen and May-limited Amakusa Blanc for 230 yen. The Hokkaido Melon Pan has melon-flavored cream inside, making it doubly delicious. The limited-time Amakusa Blanc this month was also delicious, with a fluffy and chewy bread with a hint of citrus fragrance that I couldn't resist. It's a shame that electronic money like PayPay cannot be used.

I stopped by Shizuya in Kyoto Municipal Subway Karasuma Shijo Station. Normally I buy Pepper Kalune here, but this time I decided to try something new (lol). "Danish Pepper Kalune" for 250 yen. It's 10 yen more than Pepper Kalune. Inside, there is ham, mayonnaise mixed with onions, and black pepper. The Danish pastry is not too crispy. It's easy to eat, but I felt it lacked the texture compared to the default Pepper Kalune. It was delicious, but Pepper Kalune is still my favorite (lol). They accept PayPay and LINE Pay.

There is a new product called Chikuwa bread for 260 yen, and next to it on the tray shelf, there was also Gyoza bread available. I think companies that develop new products must be working hard, but as a consumer, I am excited. The taste of Chikuwa bread matched well with bamboo shoots and bonito flakes. I also bought a mini chocolate croissant.

I always pass by this shop when I go out for dinner at a shop that appears once every three months. I bought a delicious cutlet sandwich here before. Today, I saw customers lining up in front of the shop, so I couldn't resist and ended up buying the curry-flavored donut.

Located inside the Shijo Station of the subway, Shizuya is a well-known bakery among the people of Kyoto. I decided to get some takeout while transferring from the subway to the Hankyu line, craving for their delicious bread. As I approached the store, I was greeted by a wide variety of tempting bread displayed neatly on the shelves, making it hard to choose just one. Despite it being past 1 pm on a weekday, the bakery was quite busy, but the turnover was quick, and I was able to make my purchase promptly.

- Kyoto Karune (¥230)
- Coffee Cornet (¥230)
- Shizuya Makunouchi Sandwich (¥560)
- Kyoto Karune:
A French bread with a satisfying chewiness, topped with thin slices of boneless ham and onions, creating a simple yet perfect balance. The bread was spread with butter or margarine, giving it a rustic yet delicious taste. After having one, I immediately regretted not buying more. I should have gotten three...
- Coffee Cornet:
A new item introduced in October 2022. A coffee-flavored bread filled with a smooth coffee cream. While chocolate cornets are common, the unique coffee flavor sets this one apart.
- Shizuya Makunouchi Sandwich:
A classic offering from Shizuya, this assortment includes a thick tamagoyaki sandwich and a beef cutlet sandwich. The tamagoyaki was surprisingly refreshing, not overly sweet, while the beef cutlet sandwich had a generous double layer of cutlets, offering a satisfying volume, with the sweet and savory sauce soaking into the bread.
In conclusion, all of Shizuya's bread is delicious. Their salt bread, Kyoto's local specialty bread, and the New Bird (a curry-flavored wiener donut) are also well-known. This Shijo-Karasuma branch opens from 7:30 in the morning, making it convenient for commuters and students to grab a quick breakfast on the go. You can also find a video on Instagram @moritapan7.

SIZUYA Bakery in front of the ticket gate at Kyoto Shijo Karasuma♪ On the way back from Osaka, passing through Shijo Station and I couldn't help but notice SIZUYA Bakery (Shizuya) with delicious looking bread lined up, so I had to buy some. I bought the Pepper Kalne Ham that Kyoto locals love, but it seemed to have less meat so I ended up eating it. The onion and ham make for a good late-night snack. I want to buy more. They have fried donuts, or something like that, called New Bird. In Kyoto, they use wieners. In Kanto, they use fish sausage. There's a curry-flavored bread...hmm, I think the Kanto one is tastier. The fish sausage one is delicious. Why is it called New Bird? Originally, it seems the bread was made by a bakery called Bird, and when other shops make it, they add "New" to the name. The Bird bakery no longer exists.

After leaving the Munich Shijo Kawaramachi store, I returned to the hotel in Karasuma to pick up my luggage. I then headed to Kyoto Station by going down to Karasuma Station underground, where I noticed this store. Ah, that's right. I'll buy some "Karne" here and enjoy it on the Shinkansen. So I purchased one. I took the subway to Kyoto Station, bought some tea on the platform, and enjoyed it on the Shinkansen. "Karne" is a French bread with ham, onions, and margarine, a very simple dish that is incredibly delicious. The intense flavor of the onions, the perfect match of the bread dough and ham, and the richness of the margarine create a fantastic dish (my opinion remains the same, so I copied and pasted another review). It was still delicious as ever. This marks the end of my Kansai trip after 2 and a half years. Kansai, especially Kyoto, is truly amazing. I want to visit again soon...

Located right by the Shijo Station ticket gate. I bought some bread here today. Normally, during the day, they have a good variety of bread displayed, but when I visited around 8 pm after work, the selection was a bit limited. I bought the Bacon and Egg Roll and the Kyoto Red Bean Bun with Large Nanban Red Bean Paste. Let's try them out! First, the Bacon and Egg Roll. This is your typical savory bread with curry powder in the dough, giving it a slightly spicy flavor. Next, the Kyoto Red Bean Bun with Large Nanban Red Bean Paste. It has a generous amount of red bean paste inside, not too sweet, just right. This would go well with a cup of coffee. Overall, it was a satisfying meal! As the title suggests, being located right by the ticket gate makes it convenient for those heading to work or transferring between the subway and Hankyu lines.

On the way back from Karasuma Station. This time I chose... Pepper Kalne Cream Pan with plenty of New Bird. Pepper Kalne and New Bird taste even better when lightly toasted in a toaster. Make sure to chill the cream pan thoroughly. I will try a different one next time.

I stopped by because I went to Karasuma. It was in the evening, so there was a bit of a line, maybe for the same reason. This time, I purchased... Kyoto Karne for 210 yen, Karinto Manju for 140 yen, Grape Bread Slice for 135 yen. I didn't realize the Karinto Manju had gone up by 10 yen!

This time, I chose... Cream Pan with plenty of cream for 190 yen, Karinto Manju for 130 yen, and Beef Curry Pan for 200 yen. The Cream Pan and Karinto Manju are my repeat favorites. I felt a bit rushed and couldn't take my time choosing, which is a bit disappointing, but since they are convenient and delicious, let's consider it a win!

I finally tried the bakery right outside the subway exit at Shijo Station that I've been curious about. I bought a generous cream bun for 190 yen, a crispy manju for 130 yen, a New Bird for 210 yen, and a croque monsieur for 290 yen. I chilled the cream bun and toasted the croque monsieur before enjoying them. Unfortunately, the crispy manju and New Bird were eaten by my family. But I think this place is delicious. I will definitely go back!

I remembered seeing it on "Himitsu no Kenmin SHOW" and visited a shop in front of the ticket gates at Subway Shijo Station. Oh, this one! I tried the "Kyokarne" and "Danish Karne". I also bought the "Beef Cutlet & Omelette Mix Sandwich". I enjoyed the taste of Kyoto locals.♬

The shelves in the store are filled with various types of bread such as chocolate marble bread, cafe mocha maple, bacon and egg roll, cheese twist, and gratin dog. I chose the Uji matcha steamed bread, which has a moist matcha-flavored dough with sweet red beans kneaded into it. Next time, I plan to try the shrimp chili dog and the crispy plum tartar fish sandwich.

"I haven't seen this before." On this day in Kyoto, I purchased some bread from the popular bakery "Shitsuya," including limited edition bread that I had never seen before. I visited Kyoto a bit earlier than usual for some errands, and since I had only had vegetable juice before leaving home, I stopped by "Shitsuya" to buy some bread for breakfast. The following are the breads I tried for the first time on this occasion:
- Spicy Carne with Black Pepper: "Carne" is a popular bread at Shitsuya, made with boneless ham, margarine, and onions. This version is a limited edition with added black pepper. I have tried the regular "Carne" before, but this one with the spicy kick of black pepper really enhanced the simple flavors of ham and margarine. It might not be suitable for young children, but I personally enjoyed the added spiciness.
- Karinto Manju: Despite the name "Manju," the actual dough is bread dough, similar to an anpan. It has a sweet potato paste filling with added black sugar, and the flavor is just right, not too sweet, with a good aroma. I quite liked it.
- Bacon and Egg Roll with Curry Flavored Dough: While similar savory bread with salad, bacon, and mayonnaise toppings can be found at other bakeries, the curry-flavored dough is quite unique. The curry flavor is subtle, making it easy to eat even for young children. I personally hope the "Spicy Carne with Black Pepper" becomes a regular item, as it was that good. I haven't confirmed how long it will be sold, but if you don't mind pepper, I recommend giving it a try.
