We wanted to go to a popular shop in Shijo-Karasuma, but when we arrived, it was already sold out as usual. So, we decided to head back to Kyoto Station, but we found another shop before reaching the ticket gate, so we decided to stop by there instead. We arrived at "Hoshino Coffee Shop Kotochika Shijo Station Front Store." The address is Kyoto City, Shimogyo-ku, Nijoban-Tatamicho, Kotochika Shijo B2F. The opening hours are from 7:30 to 22:30, with morning service from 7:30 to 11:00, and lunch on weekdays from 11:00 to 14:00. The shop is open every day and is completely non-smoking. The shop is part of a chain with locations in 40 prefectures across Japan, operated by Japan Restaurant Systems Co., Ltd. It seems that they have been expanding to Hiroshima, where I live, as well. The shop was quiet with no waiting customers when we arrived around 8:30. We quickly ordered the Ham and Cheese Toast with Mozzarella Cheese for 560 yen, which came with a morning drink. The toast was about 2cm thick and had melted cheese on top, looking delicious. The bread was pre-sliced into six pieces, making it easy to eat. The cheese added a rich flavor, and the coffee, which was the Hikoboshi blend, had a nice bitterness to it. Across the shop is a supermarket called Sogo Ishii, making it convenient for a quick break before catching the subway. Overall, it was a satisfying meal. Thank you for the meal!

The fruit sandwich was ready but left unattended. It seemed like they were trying to bring out our friend's parfait together, but the bread ended up getting dry. Hmm. The customers who were served before us also seemed to have had their orders mixed up. The taste is good, but there are always some things that make me go "huh?" at this place. I hope they put a little more effort into making sure the store continues to be convenient at Cotchica. As for the fruit sandwich, I did notice some dryness around the bread, but the custard cream, whipped cream, and plenty of fruits made it satisfying. If only they brought it out sooner! Don't leave it unattended when it's right there!

The taste was really delicious and the prices were very good, but the staff was clearly understaffed. We were constantly told to wait a little longer and in the end, it took several minutes for them to come. In fact, we didn't even get water for over 10 minutes. It's mashed potatoes seasoned with herbs and spices, topped with a soft-boiled egg. It was delicious! I opted for the Morning Set with coffee, which I changed to a Cafe au Lait for ¥550. It came with toast and a boiled egg. It was a classic and satisfying breakfast choice. My daughter arrived before the meeting time and had already placed our orders. I hurriedly ordered without looking at the menu. Maybe I should have gone for the Morning Drink Set with ham and cheese toast? But the toast was still delicious!

The Star Café, located almost directly connected to the subway Shijo Station, offers breakfast from 480 yen in the morning, so I decided to give it a try. When I arrived around 8 o'clock in the morning, there were only two other customers so it was not crowded. I ordered the Star brand coffee and toast set, but unfortunately, the red bean topping was sold out. The toast was not served hot, which made me wonder if it was pre-made. However, the "old-fashioned pudding" was incredibly delicious with a firm whipped cream and rich caramel that complemented the pudding well. It was definitely worth more than 500 yen! The fact that you can get a half-price refill on your drink is also a nice touch. I would love to come back to try the pudding again.

Located in Kotochika, Hoshino Coffee Shop can get crowded during lunchtime with 1-2 customers. A plate of omurice and coffee costs around 1,200 yen. They have partitions for COVID-19 prevention. The atmosphere is calm and cozy, perfect for a relaxing time.

I visited the nationwide coffee chain, Hoshino Coffee. Among various chain stores, I personally like the coffee at Hoshino Coffee the best. This time, I went for a light lunch and ordered the Hoshino Blend coffee and ham and cheese toast. They offer Hoshino Blend, Hikoboshi Blend, and Orihime Blend coffee, but I prefer the Hoshino Blend for its balanced taste. The ham and cheese toast was delicious with the melted cheese on top. This store accepts credit card payments, which is convenient for me. The location is also great, so I keep coming back to this place.

When I visited Kyoto, I decided to have some coffee to wake myself up. It happened to be during the morning hours, so I was able to enjoy a mini soufflé at a great price. I watched the people inside the shop. I accidentally sat in the smoking section, so I asked to change seats. Now, it arrived. The taste was like the hotcakes my mother used to make with pancake mix. Nothing special. The whipped cream had a salty flavor.

It's a good deal as you can get two servings in one glass. I tried the Berry Berry Soda for 518 yen, attracted by the lemon and blueberry pulp. It's a sweet and sour drink made with cranberry juice as a base and added blueberries. I love drinks with pulp like this. It's fun to discover creatively crafted drinks at cafes nowadays. Enjoying choosing a cafe has become a pleasant experience.

Located inside Kotchika, just a short walk from Shijo Station. I stopped by on my way back from Nijo Castle for a little break. - Iced Coffee: ¥432 - Iced Wiener Coffee: ¥486 The iced coffee was delicious even without milk or syrup, with a clean and refreshing taste. I always thought Wiener Coffee came with whipped cream, but it had a light cream on top. When we were seated, the place was almost full, so when we tried to sit at a two-person table, we were invited to a four-person table next to it. We were able to relax and enjoy our time.

Salad Toast Morning 480 yen. Hoshino Blend. I started the year with breakfast in Kyoto. The original place I planned to visit was closed only on New Year's Day, so I had to come back another day. Most places are closed, so I ended up at a national chain that was open from New Year's Day. I had a simple salad toast breakfast with boiled egg, tomato, and ham on a bed of salad with 4 slices of cubed toast. It was decent. The restaurant was not too crowded, probably because it was a holiday. It's conveniently located near the subway station, and there were many foreigners around. Visited in early January 2019. The stamp rally organized by "Okoshiyasu, Chitose-chan" has successfully ended, and as we were heading back to Ibaraki on Hankyu train, we decided to take a little break and stopped by here. Actually, this cafe, "Hoshino Coffee" was a place I wanted to visit for a long time. The atmosphere is calming, and my husband and I wanted to relax and shake off the fatigue from the stamp rally.
