Last time I came to Kyoto, I was captivated by the beauty of the tarts at this shop and wanted to buy them, but my daughter said we didn't need them because our bags were full and we were full from eating. I regretted not getting them, so this time on our way back from Nara to Kyoto Station, I had to buy them! I bought melon, strawberry, and mango tarts. The price was really reasonable, so I wanted to buy more, but I restrained myself and only bought three. The tarts were not only visually stunning but also incredibly delicious. I hope they open a branch in Nagoya.

After shopping at Kyoto Station, I felt like having some cake, so I made a detour to the basement floor of JR Kyoto Isetan ( ̄∇ ̄). The underground department store was crowded with people on a holiday (>_<), but I spotted a shop selling delicious-looking tarts! It seemed to be a fruit tart specialty store called Cake House Shoutani in Mukonoso. I bought three items and will enjoy them at home♪ The Setouchi lemon tart had a fluffy cream that was very refreshing! The lemon's refreshing acidity lingered, making it perfect for this time of year. The strawberry tart was topped with plenty of large strawberries♡ The whipped cream was not too sweet, giving it a surprisingly light aftertaste. I also bought a seasonal fruit tart with a colorful and vibrant appearance. The custard at the bottom was not too sweet either. The tarts were priced around 500 yen each, which was very reasonable. The portion size was just right too! Thank you for the meal★

Thursday La Collection Do Showtani Jayar Kyoto Isetan store
Strawberry 500 yen
Fruit 480 yen
Dekopon 520 yen

Cheap. Nowadays, I have an image that a tart with lots of fruit costs around 1,000 yen. Half price... Even after trying it, the fresh fruit leaves a good impression. The tart base has a nice texture, and it matches well with the filling. Even if you're not a fan of sweet things, you can still enjoy it. My daughter and I agreed that this place is great. Just looking at the sparkling fruits is soothing. Thank you for the meal.

While walking in Isetan, I was curious about Shoutani's tart, but I never had the opportunity to buy from the shop. Last time, there was a long line, but this time, no one was waiting, so I could take my time looking around. The fruit tart looked so sparkly and beautiful! The first thing I noticed was that it was surprisingly affordable. In this day and age where a slice of fruit tart can cost around 1000 yen, I was amazed that this one with so many strawberries was only 500 yen. I also bought a Setouchi lemon tart for 420 yen. I love the intense sweetness and sourness of lemon tarts, that bright yellow color, and the dense texture. Both tarts were subtly sweet with a good amount of filling. The almond powder crust was delicious and had a nice balance. The lemon filling had the perfect sweet and sour taste that I love. While it didn't exceed my expectations, the quality, presentation, and price point of these tarts impressed me. It's still a bit hard to justify spending a thousand yen on a slice, but as a treat, it's worth it. It's nice to have such beautiful and accessible tarts available. They would make a great gift too!

The cake shop is great because the prices are not too high. Even if you buy two cakes, it's around 1000 yen. The fruit tart is delicious even after a day. In fact, the flavor of the sponge cake seeps in and it tastes even better than the first day. The custard and chunks of fruit are good.

I went to buy on Christmas Eve this year as well. This year, being a Saturday, the line was even longer than last year. Last year, the line stretched all the way from the store front to the stairs, but this year it went all the way up the stairs to the upper floor. Even arriving after 3 PM, I still had to wait for an hour. The strawberry tart (750 yen) was a bit pricey for this store. It had plenty of strawberries, but I wonder if they raised the price just for Christmas. The Christmas pinecone (550 yen) and the star-shaped strawberry mousse (600 yen) were both reasonably tasty.

Shohtani at JR Kyoto Isetan is a famous shop known for its fruit tarts. I bought a cake here for the first time. The price was reasonable and it was full of fruit, looking delicious. I took it home and it tasted as good as it looked. It was full of fruit flavors and not too sweet, which I liked. I'm not usually a fan of tarts, but I might make an exception for this shop because the fruit is so delicious.

Seasonal fruit tart, blueberry tart, and Mont Blanc are available for takeout. Located in a commercial facility in Umeda, this tart shop is less crowded compared to a certain famous tart shop on holidays, but offers fruit-filled tarts at about half the price. The style of placing fruit on the tart crust with gelatin may divide opinions. The crust is on the sweeter side and gives the impression of being separated between the top and bottom. Personally, I wish they would add custard cream as a cushion, but for the price, the fruit tart may be worth it.

I purchased a cake at La Collection Do Shoutani in Kyoto Isetan. This shop is relatively new at Kyoto Isetan. I think it opened this year? The prices are reasonable and the cakes are packed with fruits, making it a popular shop. It was relatively empty on this weekday evening. I bought a cake topped with strawberries. A friend had posted a cake with lots of grapes on social media before and I wanted that, but it wasn't in the lineup that day. The cake here has a simple taste and is easy to eat. Personally, I feel that the cakes in Isetan tend to be on the heavier side compared to other department stores, but maybe not so much with this shop? Perhaps because of the large proportion of fruits in the cakes.

JR Kyoto Isetan's depachika sweets. Shohtani, a tart specialty store with plenty of fruits that opened in February 2022. I bought the Strawberry Packed Tart for ¥560 and the Strawberry Sibust Tart for ¥450. The strawberries are sweet and delicious, but the tart is incredibly tasty!! This is definitely a repeat purchase!!

Located on the first basement floor of Kyoto Isetan, which is adjacent to JR Kyoto Station. There is a parking lot available at Isetan. This shop is a specialty store for tarts run by Shoutani, a cake house known for "Isshin Souka". They only offer takeout. The tarts are known for being generously topped with fruits, and there is always a crowd in front of the shop. I purchased the Mont Blanc for 520 yen tax included, Thompson Tart for 480 yen tax included, Melon Tart for 480 yen tax included, Apple Chiboust Tart for 450 yen tax included, and Strawberry Chiboust Tart for 450 yen tax included. Each tart is filled with fresh fruits, making them juicy and delicious. You can fully enjoy the cream and fruits in these cakes. Delicious! The prices are also reasonable. No, I should say they are a great deal. I would love to visit again.

I bought the Red Madonna Tart for the first time and ate it at home. It was delicious and just the way I like it.

Shoutani's fruits are colorful and beautiful, and they are also delicious. I was a bit skeptical at first because they looked too good to be true, but the taste was great. Although I only bought one as a trial at this price in Isetan, I will definitely go back to buy more.
