I visited the main store of Arigido located at the foot of Mount Takao. Established in the Meiji era, the building exudes a traditional atmosphere and offers a taste of a long-established shop. They have three stores at the foot of Mount Takao. I tried their "Takao manju." The white manju has smooth red bean paste inside, while the brown one has chunky red bean paste. The chewy skin texture is delightful, and the sweetness of the red bean paste spreads in your mouth. This is a must-visit shop when you visit Mount Takao.

When climbing Mount Takao, be sure to stop by here to buy two Takao manju (one with sweet bean paste and one with chunky sweet bean paste). Enjoy them leisurely at the summit. For lunch after descending, we have decided on tsuketoro and beer at the Takahashi family's place, so it's the perfect outfit for that until then.

I tried a steamed bun at a popular shop that I don't usually eat, and I understand why it's so popular. It was freshly handmade, warm, and delicious. I bought it on the spot and ate it right away, it was perfect. The white one in the photo is filled with smooth red bean paste, and the brown one is filled with chunky red bean paste. Both were delicious.

On a holiday when my lunch plans with friends fell through, I decided to spontaneously climb Mount Takao alone. On the way back, I thought about buying one to eat on the train ride home. But then, the lady at the shop said, "You're going to eat it now, right? Let me prepare some tea for you!" So, I ended up enjoying both the snack and the tea at the shop for a while. It was a heartwarming experience both in terms of taste and feeling.

On the way from the Takao-san-guchi to the trailhead, I was drawn to a sign that said they sell 10,000 manju a day, and of course, the name "Takao-san" manju caught my eye. I was worried that they might be sold out since there were no manju displayed at the storefront, but luckily that was not the case. I purchased two manju, one white with smooth white bean paste filling, and one brown with chunky red bean paste filling. They were slightly warm. Now, the white one had a refined taste with a smooth texture like water yokan. Perhaps it was because it was warm. The brown one had a simple charm with the aroma of black sugar in the skin and the fragrance of whole red beans. They were delicious.

A popular Japanese confectionery shop located about a 3-minute walk from Takao Yamaguchi Station (Keio Line). It has a rating of 3.53 on Tabelog (as of November 2022). They offer both takeout and eat-in options. Their Takao Manju costs 120 yen each, and you can choose between "tsubu" and "koshi" varieties. They use red beans from Tokachi, Hokkaido. I bought both "tsubu" and "koshi" this time. They serve them while still warm. There is a bench in front of the shop. The "tsubu" variety allows you to fully taste the red beans. The 6-piece box for 720 yen and the 10-piece box for 1200 yen are quite popular as souvenirs. It's not bad, but I wasn't particularly impressed.

During the autumn season, I went hiking at Mount Takao. When visiting tourist spots, I always end up buying manju as souvenirs. I bought a pack of 6 manju, with 3 white and 3 brown ones, for 720 yen. They only accept cash for payment. They also brewed warm tea for me to enjoy outside the shop. I think the brown ones had red bean paste inside. I received very attentive service.

It used to be near the station, but now it's closed and located near the ropeway station. They had several types, but I got a set of three each to take out for 720 yen. There was one with smooth red bean paste and another with chunky red bean paste. There was a lot of anko (sweet bean paste) which was great. Thank you for the meal.

When you go to Mount Takao, you will see many hikers. One popular treat that both hikers and tourists enjoy at the base of Mount Takao is the Takao manju. I tried it too! Takao Manju 120 yen Tea Red bean paste White bean paste I went to try the famous Takao manju at the base of Mount Takao! At the main store, you can get the manju with warm white bean paste. Tea is also included! - Tea with red bean paste. It has whole beans, giving it a nice texture. It is sweet and delicious. The dough is firm, with a gentle sweetness from brown sugar. If you want to taste the bean texture, this one is for you. - White I tried the warm white Takao manju. It has smooth white bean paste. Not too sweet, with an elegant sweetness that makes it easy to eat many. If you want a smooth texture, this one is for you! Thank you for the meal. It's nice to be able to enjoy tea with the manju on the spot! And the fact that the white one can be served warm makes it even better for eating on the spot!

I climbed to the top of Mt. Takao and on the way back, I took the cable car down. I decided to buy Takao manju, which I had been curious about when climbing Mt. Takao! The sign said they sold 10,000 a day. They had green tea manju with coarse red bean paste, and white manju with smooth red bean paste. Both are delicious. Takao manju 6 pieces ¥110 x 6

This is a traditional Japanese confectionery shop located on the approach to Takao-san-guchi Station. Established as a supplier to the main temple of Mount Takao, this long-standing shop's Takao manju has become a staple souvenir from Mount Takao. After descending from Mount Takao, I stopped by to purchase some as a souvenir for home. Takao manju (110 yen) comes in two varieties: with coarse red bean paste or smooth red bean paste, distinguished by brown and white colors, respectively. The expiration date is 3 days, including the purchase date. Although it looks like a regular steamed bun, I was surprised by its high quality when I tried it. The skin is moist, and the red bean paste has an elegant sweetness. It was a delicious treat that showcased the true strength of a long-established shop. It also has a good shelf life for a fresh confectionery, making it a perfect souvenir. Thank you for the meal.

We came to Mount Takao with our family and wanted something sweet, so we visited this shop for the first time. Mitarashi dango for 120 yen had a sweet sauce with a hint of soy sauce aroma, and the mochi was delicious. Takao manju with coarse and smooth red bean paste for 110 yen had distinct textures and flavors, with the smooth paste melting in the mouth. The tea provided by the shop was also delicious. Overall, we thought it was a great place to eat. Thank you for the meal.

I charged up with some energy on the way to the cable car station at the foot of the mountain from Takao-san-guchi Station. There were other options like "Takao-san manju" but I chose my favorite mitarashi dango. It was the perfect meal before the hike. Thank you for the delicious food.

There is a long-established manju shop in Mt. Takao that sells a lot. They stick to making and selling manju on the same day, including for takeout. I decided to enjoy the manju with matcha in the store. The manju is quite sweet, but still delicious. However, I felt that the matcha was lacking. There are many traditional Japanese sweets shops along the shrine and the approach to the mountain, but I don't think it's necessary to try them all.

I came to Mount Takao for the first shrine visit. There are many must-try foods in Takao-san, such as soba, Tengu-yaki, and Sanpuku dango, but one of the representative sweets and souvenirs is here. Takao manju from Ukido, priced at 110 yen each. Established around 1900, it has a history dating back to the Meiji era. Since there is a Yakuo-in temple on Mount Takao, it is believed that the store name was taken from the official name of Yakuo-in temple, "Takao-san Yakuo-in Ukiji." They actually offer it as an offering at Yakuo-in temple. You might think it's just a regular hot spring manju, but the quality is very high! - Tsubuan (sweet red bean paste) The brown dough made with black sugar contains plump, cooked red beans that are visible even when you look at the cross-section. The black sugar in the dough is richly felt and does not lose to the impact of the red bean paste. - Koshian (smooth red bean paste) This time, the elegant white dough contains smooth red bean paste. The red bean paste is so smooth that you can drink it. I think it's rare to find such delicious red bean paste even in a traditional Japanese confectionery shop. The gentle, light sweetness of the dough does not interfere with the elegant red bean paste. This manju is really delicious, and it exceeded my expectations if I had the image of a typical hot spring manju. Thank you for the feast.

I climbed Mount Takao and saw a lot of Takao Senbei, a type of rice cracker shaped like autumn leaves, being sold at the shops along the hiking trail. I was a bit disappointed when I saw that the manufacturer's address was in Niigata Prefecture... But I was assured by the staff at this long-standing shop that they do make the Takao Senbei here, so I decided to buy it as a souvenir. It seems like the manju (sweet buns) is more famous based on the display and customers' reactions. However, I don't like red bean paste, so I stuck with Takao Senbei as my choice. They sell Takao Senbei in packs of 5, and I bought the one in a cute box with a traditional Japanese paper lid for home use. The handmade senbei had some imperfections like holes, which added to its charm. This kind of rice cracker is commonly found all over Japan, but the taste is consistently delicious. It's a flavor that most people can enjoy. I'm glad I could try the original Takao Senbei here, which has maintained its taste since its establishment.

A friend from my student days moved to Tokyo and wanted to visit Mt. Takao, a place we never got to go during our time in college. We both graduated from a university in Hachioji. Despite visiting the area a few times, he always had reasons why he couldn't join, like getting sick or his girlfriend's father falling ill. He moved to Tokyo because he needed surgery and wanted to visit Mt. Takao before that. We started climbing at 10 am and reached the summit by noon, where we had onigiri for lunch. The autumn leaves had just started to change. We couldn't see our alma mater from the top, but we had a great view of Hachioji. Before heading back on the Keio Line, we stopped at this cafe for a rest. We were seated in a tatami room after a short wait. I ordered a blend coffee, which came with a sweet bun. They also had options like sweet red bean soup besides coffee. We served ourselves tea, which was refreshing as my throat was dry. The coffee had a strong, bitter taste and was served in a good quantity. The sweetness of the bun complemented it well. It was a space where we could enjoy the feeling of a fulfilling reunion after our hike. We promised to climb Mt. Takao again next year.

I took a weekday off to go on a short hike to Mt. Takao, where I found a well-established souvenir shop near the Takao Station. While they also offer a dining area where you can enjoy coffee, this time I decided to bring home some souvenirs. The snacks had a refreshing skin with a subtly sweet bean paste filling, creating an elegant taste. The brown ones contained whole bean paste, while the white ones had smooth bean paste. I enjoyed them with tea at home. Thank you for the meal.

I visited the shop around 3 pm on a weekday during the autumn leaves season, and it wasn't very crowded. I enjoyed a slightly warm steamed bun. It's nice to have something sweet after coming down the mountain! They also serve tea, so it's a recommended place to take a break.

Visited around 11:30, after coming down from Mount Takao and looking for a place to rest. We found this place with no other customers around, almost like a private experience during the Obon season. We saw some people getting takeout only for the steamed buns. We ordered iced coffee with sweets, and the owner prepared everything by herself. We got one steamed bun each with sweet red bean and chunky red bean fillings. Even though there was no air conditioning, the natural breeze made it pleasantly cool inside. We'll definitely come back next time we climb the mountain.
