Akabane Station East Exit is just a 1-minute walk away. There is a police box nearby, and the restaurant is located on the second floor of a building across the street. Although I haven't visited Akabane much, it has a nice old-town feel in the north, which is quite comfortable. I wanted to visit Tomoari and Yuruyuu, and they are open from 5:30 even during the pandemic, which is impressive. On this rainy day, the menu was displayed on the first floor, and there was a whiteboard with recommendations such as Pork and Egg on Rice for 680 yen and Pacific Saury for 660 yen. This restaurant offers a variety of breakfast options, including Nagoya-style breakfast with half toast and egg, mini salad, ham and egg, hot sandwich, various toasts with egg, butter, tuna, and even onigiri instead of toast in the Nagoya style. They also offer a large portion of mini salad, and you can upgrade your drink size for an additional 100 yen, which is quite flexible. They have a wide range of rice dishes, including homemade curry, natto set meal, and onigiri set meal. What's impressive is that they also offer grilled fish set meals sourced from Toyosu, which is unusual for a cafe. While Pacific Saury is in season, the price of 660 yen seemed cheap, so I eagerly climbed the stairs. Before 8 am on a weekday, there were 4 groups of customers ahead of me and 3 groups behind me. The staff on the floor were very friendly and welcoming. I was guided to a window table of my choice. I quickly received a glass of water and a wet towel. I was interested in both the grilled fish set meal and the onigiri set meal, but I decided to go with the grilled mackerel since Pacific Saury had run out. I didn't ask for the price at that time, but it turned out to be 700 yen when I paid. The staff asked how I liked my fish grilled, and it was almost ready, which was nice. I received my drink first - an iced coffee. The milk came in a portion-sized container, and the sugar syrup came in a pot. I think they make the sugar syrup here. Oh, this copper cup... it's nice! In my limited experience, there's no bad cold coffee served in a copper cup. It may be partly psychological, but the vessel is important. The coffee had a strong bitterness without any unpleasant taste. Delicious! I would have liked it to have a bit more depth, but I like the bitterness, so it's good. The drink selection is interesting, with options like Calpis, herbal tea, and Japanese tea. There are newspapers and magazines available, and a wall full of bookshelves with books by Ryo Sagisawa, which gave me a sense of familiarity. Although there is no counter, there are seats for solo diners, and acrylic dividers are installed. There is also a smoking booth. There seem to be many male regular customers. After a short wait, my grilled mackerel set meal arrived. It was served on a simple wooden tray that could be used for both Japanese and Western meals, with rice, egg, soup, grilled fish, and seasoned seaweed. Soy sauce is available in a fresh bottle on the table. Let's dig in. The rice seemed to be commercial grade, and while it tasted good, it was hard for me, with thin skin, to hold because of the high platform. It's cute, but I wonder if they wanted to give it a casual and not overly Japanese feel. By the way, you can get a large portion of rice for an additional 100 yen. I also ordered a rolled omelette. It could be changed to a boiled egg or a sunny-side-up egg. This egg... it's like two small sunny-side-up eggs. It's not seasoned much, but it's hot and fresh. I thought the cup was soup, but it was miso soup with seaweed. The soup had a strong broth but was light. The seaweed seemed to be dried rather than salted. It was also served hot, which was nice. And the mackerel... it had a cute design, probably Mino ware. I thought it was salted mackerel, but it wasn't. Of course, it was freshly grilled, and the skin was crispy. The flesh was plump and juicy.

Visited Akabane for the first time with close friends. Started off at a standing bar where we had a couple of drinks and snacks, then decided to head to the next spot. However, we were drawn into a unique restaurant with a captivating signboard right before reaching the station. The place only served beer and highballs, but what caught our attention was the dinner menu that came with a drink. Each of us ordered different dishes - Napolitan, Bolognese, and Over Rice - along with coffee. The Napolitan, with its generous amount of ketchup-based sauce on soft spaghetti, was a nostalgic and delicious dish that perfectly complemented our drinks. The only regret was ordering the regular blended coffee out of habit, as the Wiener Coffee that my friend ordered seemed to be a better choice both in taste and for social media. We will definitely be back for another visit. Thank you for the meal!

JR Akabane Station North Exit, just to the right of the East Exit, on the second floor of Mister Donut, is the old-fashioned coffee shop Tomoruyuu. Tomoruyuu, spelled out as "to-mo-ro-u" ... that's right. A coffee shop operated by River Mouse Co., Ltd., established in 2002. The concept is "Coffee shops are part of Japanese culture." Our shop is the main store in Akabane, and we also have a second store in Akabane, as well as stores in Asakusa and Nippori. On this day, I decided to have breakfast in Akabane. I climbed the stairs next to Mister Donut before it opened, and found myself in a nostalgic old-fashioned coffee shop. From the window, you can overlook the station rotary. In the past, every station had at least one coffee shop like this. The hall was managed by ladies. The morning menu includes not only Western-style dishes but also Japanese set meals and curry. I ordered the classic Ham and Egg Toast (680 yen) with an iced coffee. The Ham and Egg Toast set comes with a plate featuring a ham and egg salad-topped toast, scrambled eggs, salad, and soup. The salad consists of lettuce, corn, and carrots with soy sauce dressing. The soup is miso soup with tofu and fried tofu. The characters on the egg salad and scrambled eggs look similar, don't they? It's nice to have a variety of items on the plate. I enjoyed a peaceful morning moment while looking out at the station rotary. The payment is done through a self-checkout with a touch panel.

I found a café called Tomorrow near JR Akabane Station to kill time. The air conditioning was nice and cool. I ordered a blend coffee for 540 yen, which is a typical café price. The taste was decent. The café was almost full with people having meals. It seemed like the teppanyaki dishes were popular. Since I visited in the afternoon, the customers were mostly staff from nearby restaurants taking their lunch break. There were also a couple of people drinking alcohol in the daytime, giving off a local vibe. Overall, I think it's a charming and convenient café. The checkout counter was self-service.

On Sunday, while commuting to work, I had a late lunch in front of Akabane Station. I found a coffee shop labeled as "old-fashioned" just a short walk from the station and decided to drop in. I ordered the Over Rice and iced coffee from the menu photos. The rice was topped with pork and mushrooms seasoned just right with butter, and it was incredibly delicious. The flavor was not monotonous, so I enjoyed changing things up with miso soup until the very end.

Pork ginger set meal with coffee for 1080 yen. I was intrigued by the mention of the sauce being a tradition passed down through generations. I didn't really notice the flavor of the sauce, but the pork itself was good. The iced coffee was also nice.

There is a café called Yūji (Tomorrow) on the 2nd floor of a building in front of the east exit of Akabane Station. There is a sign at the entrance that says "Drunk people not allowed", showing their commitment to maintaining a café atmosphere in a neighborhood filled with bars. One of my favorite items to order during lunch is the "Lunch Pudding" for 250 yen. It has a unique triangular shape and a smooth, lightly eggy taste. The caramel bitterness is complemented by a prominent sweetness that comes through after the bitterness fades. The changing flavors of bitterness and sweetness make it enjoyable. The lunch menu is more affordable than typical family restaurants. This unique café near the station is a convenient place to enjoy a calm lunch.

There is a retro café in Akabane called Tomorow, which has a nostalgic atmosphere both in its interior and menu. It is similar to Komeda Coffee in terms of its retro feel. Retro cafes are popular in various places these days, with Ueno and Asakusa being Meccas with many historic establishments. Although Akabane is not a place I often visit, whenever I do, I make sure to stop by here. Compared to the city center, there are significantly fewer cafes in Akabane, but Tomorow is a welcoming, delicious, and calming place to visit. They also offer a highly recommended French toast, praised by Matsuya and Delacroix. This time, I tried their morning set, which is a great deal with a main dish, salad, egg dish, soup, and a drink included. It is quite filling and satisfying. Their lunch menu also includes familiar café dishes like Napolitan. Their desserts are delicious as well, with seasonal limited parfait being a visually appealing and tasty option. Their firm pudding is also worth trying. The interior is non-smoking, with a designated smoking area. Tomorow has two locations in Akabane, as well as in Asakusa and Nippori.

They offer large size coffee which is convenient. Payment is done through self-checkout with a barcode. The food was delicious. I went in the early afternoon on a public holiday! The restaurant was almost full, but I was able to be seated right away because there were some available seats. It's very convenient as it's located right by the station. The seating space is quite narrow, and there is a time limit of 2 hours for each customer. I ordered a hojicha latte! It wasn't very sweet, so I adjusted it with some simple syrup. It wasn't very strong, so when the ice melted, it became quite diluted, but it was delicious.

The hojicha cream latte was delicious! The sweet cream and bitter cream were perfectly balanced. The retro interior and nice view made it feel like an old-fashioned coffee shop, but it was also great that they had a non-smoking section. The food also looked delicious!

First visit. Ordered the lunch demi-hamburg steak (with extra rice) for 900 yen, and added 150 yen for an iced coffee. Was disappointed when the lunch set arrived. The hamburg steak was extremely small. This place is definitely more geared towards women. Not suitable for hungry men who want a hearty meal. I ordered the extra rice because I was starving, but I ran out of side dishes and was left in a bind. The miso soup and macaroni salad that came with it were also in small portions... Maybe this cafe is better for pasta. But I won't be going back. Also, the cramped interior made me feel uneasy. Personally, I prefer the calm atmosphere of "Ume no Ki". The service rating of 2.8 is because water and wet towels were not provided until the food arrived. I didn't realize it was self-service and was waiting at the register, but no staff pointed it out to me. I wish someone had just said, "Oh, it's self-service." I hurriedly realized and paid at the register. It was embarrassing. I understand they were busy, but I wish the staff had shown a bit more composure and attention to detail. The iced coffee was decently good. It was worth the 150 yen. By the way, I sat at a solo seat by the window, and in front of me, I could see the scenery of "Hyakumangoku", "Uzumaki", "Maruyoshi", and "Jikaseimen Ito". It's nice to see that old Showa era vibe in just this spot. The search for a cafe in Akabane continues...

A calm cafe located a 2-minute walk from Akabane Station. Today, I had the Napolitan pasta and cream soda. These are classic cafe menu items, but the colors were vibrant and the flavors were gentle and delicious. They have a 120-minute time limit for orders, but I was able to relax and enjoy listening to oldies playing in the background. ☺️

I was craving for a creamy omelette rice and ended up here after searching. The restaurant was quite busy but not enough to line up. Customers kept coming in non-stop. The demi-glace sauce omelette rice was incredibly delicious.

After lunch, I felt like having tea and dessert, so I stumbled upon this shop. The interior is quite lively. It has an old-fashioned coffee shop vibe, which I really like. I wanted to have a parfait, so I ordered the chocolate parfait. It was a classic parfait! I enjoy the retro Showa era feel of it. I don't live around here, so I might not have the chance to come back again, but I might visit again when I'm in this area. Thank you for the meal.

The pork with extra sauce, egg, and rice was a bit too heavy on the sauce, making it overwhelming. It felt like it might make me sick. The coffee was delicious and refreshing. The Over Rice dish was just okay, but with a wide variety of menu options and tasty coffee, I would consider coming back again.

I visited the Akabane branch of the traditional coffee shop Tomoroyu, located on the second floor of a building just a few seconds walk from the east exit of JR Akabane Station. The shop was established in 2002 with a concept of preserving and spreading the culture of Japanese coffee shops. The menu I tried that day was the Tomoroyu Bread (580 yen tax included) with a choice of blended coffee. The breakfast menu offered both Japanese and Western options, and I chose the Western option. The bread was served with toast, scrambled eggs, and salad. The toast was plain and lacked a crispy texture. The scrambled eggs had a slightly burnt taste and the salad consisted only of lettuce with dressing. The blended coffee was served at a high temperature with a gentle acidity and moderate bitterness. The shop had a nostalgic atmosphere, but the seating was cramped and uncomfortable for taller individuals. The staff was limited to one person handling both service and payment. Overall, the shop was convenient with its location near the station and reasonable prices, but the uncomfortable seating may deter me from revisiting. I would consider visiting their other branch nearby instead.

It's a visit close to noon. The restaurant is located behind the police box in front of the station. I was seated by the window when I entered the restaurant. The menu was different from what I expected. Previously, lunch came with a drink included, but now it's 900 yen without a drink, which is essentially a price increase. The lunch menu didn't have the pork ginger or pork steak ginger that I was looking for. I was disappointed, but I quickly decided on the hamburger with demi-glace sauce and waited for a while. It arrived in a few minutes, on a sizzling hot plate. The hamburger was juicy and full of meat. The demi-glace sauce was also well balanced. The salad was macaroni salad, which was a bit lacking, but considering the price, it was understandable. I paid at the counter, which seemed to be a cost-cutting measure. This 900 yen meal was the result of the company's efforts. It was a good value for the money. Thank you for the meal.

I went during the daytime on a holiday. The menu was like something you would see in a really old coffee shop. I had a cream soda for the first time in a long while, haha. But the prices seemed a bit high. It didn't seem like the kind of place where you could stay for a long time.

The coffee is delicious! I had Napolitan for lunch with iced coffee. Napolitan comes with potato salad and miso soup. It's like the old-fashioned Napolitan, similar to school lunch Napolitan. It's a bit ordinary, but the iced coffee is delicious! I want to try hot coffee next time. One thing that caught my attention was that the staff's conversation was a bit loud and the content was leaking out. It would be better if they spoke in a softer voice.
