Lunchtime at Yamashina Station. There are few restaurants near the station which makes it tough, but I decided to try "Hatagoya" located right next to the station. The spacious restaurant is a gathering place for Yamashina ladies, where they enjoy a leisurely meal and conversation. The prices are a bit high, but the most popular choice is the "Hatagoya set meal" which includes tempura, sashimi, and chawanmushi. It was a refreshing experience to have a set meal like this after a while. The chawanmushi at the end was particularly delicious as it was served hot. I usually only have sushi at conveyor belt sushi restaurants, so this was a nice change. The texture of the ingredients was great. The meal also comes with warabi mochi for dessert, making it a relaxing lunch spot.

My friend made a reservation near the station and we went there. It's really close to Yamashina Station, so the access is excellent. All seats are like private rooms, so it's safe even during the pandemic. The izakaya menu is mainly Japanese cuisine, and the dashimaki was delicious. I didn't take many photos, but it's recommended for when you want to go out quickly near the station. Thank you for the meal ♡

On this sunny day, before the typhoon arrives, I decided to eat out at "Hatagoya" in Yamashina. It was a little past 12 pm and not too crowded. Unfortunately, they had already sold out of the daily special, so I ordered the Black Wagyu Steak set meal, which seemed to have a good amount of food. You can place your order verbally or through the LCD panel. It arrived in about 10 minutes. The portion size was smaller than it appeared in the picture, about 70% of the volume. The salad and miso soup had very little quantity. The salad was so small that it was finished in two bites. The miso soup only had wakame seaweed and green onions, no other ingredients. I also ordered Chawanmushi separately, but it had very little filling, just a piece of chicken and kamaboko. Overall, the dishes seemed to have very little filling. You can choose between mixed rice and white rice, but in reality, you can only choose mixed rice with the set meal. If you want extra rice, you have to ask the staff directly. You can only request additional items like tea, water, chopsticks, small plates, and wet towels through the LCD panel. The steak sauce tasted like barbecue sauce. The discrepancy between the actual meal and the picture was disappointing, so I personally rate it low. They gave me a 5% discount, so the total bill was reduced from 2180 yen to 2071 yen. The restaurant has many semi-private rooms, but if you're dining alone, you'll be seated at the counter near the entrance, which can make you feel a bit out of place. I ordered a cola as my complimentary drink before leaving. You can choose from coffee, tea, Calpis, and other options for your complimentary drink. Despite the small portion of meat, how do you all feel about this review?

JR Yamashina Station front. The most prosperous location in Yamashina! It's just a quick 8-minute ride from Kyoto Station. Definitely worth a visit! It's my first time visiting since the restaurant moved to the second floor. It's been about 10 years, I think. The interior is mainly private rooms, perfect for a leisurely meal with friends. You can also enjoy a relaxing meal at the counter. I ordered a luxurious lunch set from the menu, the "Hanakago Gozen" for 2480 yen. I chose the anago (conger eel) rice, which was delicious! Enjoyed a leisurely lunch in a semi-private room. However, it does feel a bit on the pricey side. It's like a slightly high-end Japanese chain restaurant. I feel like it was different from before (over 10 years ago). Maybe I went a little overboard with my order. It might be better to enjoy the diverse menu options.

The restaurant is conveniently located in front of JR Yamashina Station in Kyoto. We visited as a group of three in the evening at 5 o'clock, right after opening. There were quite a few reservations. The menu is extensive and comes with a complimentary draft beer and a small green vegetable dish. The portions are generous, but the flavors are a bit mild. The sashimi platter was a bit disappointing as the slices were small and oddly cut. The grilled tofu was very light and tasty. Other dishes included ginkgo nuts, green salad, black wagyu beef, octopus rice, and tofu gratin. Unfortunately, the meat was a bit tough. The portion of the octopus rice was about two tea cups. The menu is exciting, but not every dish is guaranteed to be satisfying. The semi-private seating area is nice and relaxing, so I will definitely visit again.

The staff were wearing kimonos. The restaurant had a slightly upscale feel compared to a family restaurant. Lunch was around 2000 yen, and we were able to enjoy our meal in a private room. It was delicious and we were able to relax.

The boiled amberjack and lotus root manju with sauce were delicious and went well with alcohol. You can relax in a private room. (Personally, I liked the previous renovation better because it was spacious and you could take off your shoes.)

I received a letter saying that the lunch menu at the restaurant has been updated, so I went there right away. I ordered the steak set meal. I enjoyed delicious black wagyu beef for lunch. Of course, since it's a Japanese restaurant, the miso soup with rich dashi was also excellent! Hatagoya is my favorite because even the rice is delicious. I wonder what kind of rice they use... The steak was made with black wagyu beef, so the taste was guaranteed. I believe that the taste of meat depends on the sauce, but the sauce was a Japanese-style steak sauce with a sweet and appetizing flavor. Furthermore, it was nice that a drink and dessert were included as a service after the meal.

I went there on a weekday night after work. The calm atmosphere at the counter seats right at the entrance was nice. The staff's service was polite and pleasant. They may not have a wide variety of sake, but they had good quality options and seasonal limited editions, which was great. They also had several types of beer, shochu, and cocktails. We enjoyed various dishes instead of a course meal, like dashimaki tamago with mentaiko, and mackerel sushi as our drinking snacks. The price was fair or even better, and we were fully satisfied. Lastly, we ordered ochazuke, which turned out to be surprisingly generous in portion, and we ended up feeling stuffed. It was a perfect place to enjoy a quiet and relaxing drink without any noise.

We wanted to have a meal of Japanese cuisine with our family of 4, so we visited this place near Yamashina Station. It was our first time dining here, and the cozy atmosphere inside made us feel comfortable. We ordered a Caesar salad, a sashimi platter with 7 types of fish, fried squid, bonito sashimi, grilled Hiyuchi beef, fried chicken, grilled golden snapper, and tai-meshi (sea bream rice). The portion size of the tai-meshi was small, but the sashimi, especially the Kizushi, was delicious. The Hiyuchi beef was worth the price, with tasty marbling. The tempura was fried well and enjoyable. Overall, the relaxed atmosphere made our dining experience enjoyable. It just goes to show that ambiance is important for a good meal!

This is a Japanese restaurant located very close to Yamashina Station. I don't know Yamashina very well, but when I was thinking about where to have lunch, I noticed this place and decided to visit. The restaurant has a style where you take off your shoes before entering. It may feel a bit awkward dining alone, but all seats are private rooms, so you can enjoy your meal in a relaxed atmosphere. I ordered the daily set meal, which that day featured pork cutlet. I wish there was more cabbage for a better balance of vegetables. The side dishes included fish and were delicious. The rice was served in a traditional wooden box with a lid, which added a nice touch. Dessert and coffee were also included after the meal, which was a pleasant surprise. Thank you for the meal!

Last night, I went to a restaurant after my father's memorial service. I had made a reservation for the 3150 yen course at 5 o'clock. I had been to this restaurant once before a few years ago, and I remembered it wasn't too bad. When I arrived a little before 5, there were already customers waiting outside. It seems like you can't enter the restaurant until 5 o'clock. Most people seemed to have reservations, so it must be popular. Personally, I preferred the yakitori restaurant nearby, but unfortunately, they were closed for the Bon holidays. Once seated, there were appetizers on the table. Boiled spinach and seaweed vinegar. It was okay, nothing special. I think it's hard to mess up making this dish. Then came the sashimi, squid, tuna, and yellowtail. I haven't tried them, so I'm not sure. Each person got one piece of each. Next was pork shabu-shabu. It was served with plenty of soba noodles. When that was finished, grilled dishes were served. Chicken wings and chicken drumsticks maybe, but they didn't have much flavor, just tasted like chicken. There were no condiments on the table, so I had to ask for salt from the waitress. After that, fried dishes, which seemed like frozen food just deep-fried. Followed by rolled sushi and miso soup. Finally, dessert was served. We went with a group of eight, so each dish came in portions for four people. My son and another person were full from the soba and sushi, but for 3150 yen per person... Also, the drinks took a long time to arrive. We had to ask multiple times before they were served. The staff's responses were okay, but I don't understand why the food takes so long to come out. Overall, it was an underwhelming experience. I won't be returning.

Urgent meeting in Kyoto that suddenly came up. Hotels near Kyoto station are fully booked for Saturday night, so ended up staying in Yamashina. Despite feeling tired as soon as I checked into the hotel, I decided to look for a place to eat within walking distance. Found a restaurant that seemed to be the only option available and made a reservation. I didn't have high expectations, thinking it would be just an average taste like in Tokyo. However, upon entering the restaurant, I was pleasantly surprised. The place was packed with only two seats available at the counter where I had reserved. The dishes being served looked delicious. I started with the tuna and nagaimo yukke, which had a familiar taste. Next, I tried the beef tendon stew, which was cooked in miso and had a nice balance of sweetness with tender tendon. Feeling more hopeful, I ordered the whale ginger stir-fry. This dish is an absolute must-try! It had no fishy taste and the soy sauce flavor paired well with alcohol. I also ordered a special drink called "mizore sake," where the sake freezes into a slushy consistency in a chilled glass. Intrigued by a photo on the menu, I tried the shrimp gratin, which was more like a white stew with a hint of Kyoto miso. It had a Japanese twist that appealed to female tastes. Lastly, I couldn't resist the bone-in fried chicken, a favorite among men. Despite feeling full, I ended up eating two pieces because the crispy coating and juicy meat were irresistible. The staff, mostly young women, were friendly and efficient, handling inquiries from Tokyo visitors with ease. Their smiles and graceful movements made it easy to understand why a Tokyo man might fall for a Kyoto woman. Apologies for underestimating Yamashina and assuming there were no good places to eat. If you ever find yourself in Yamashina, I highly recommend this restaurant.

We stopped by on our way back from a trip to Osaka. I sometimes get off at Yamashina Station, but I never noticed this restaurant before. Even though I've used the Starbucks next door a few times. My mother had wanted to come here since she couldn't get in last time due to a full house during a party with a friend. So, on our way back from Osaka, we decided to drink nearby instead of in Osaka. We arrived around 10 pm on a weekday, thinking there wouldn't be any customers at this time. When we entered, it took a while for someone to notice us, so we had to call out "Excuse me" a few times. When we were seated, they mentioned that the last order was at 11 pm, but since we still had an hour left, it was fine. We weren't very hungry because we had a light meal in Osaka in the evening, but we decided to order some sashimi platter, grilled abalone with butter, pickled assortment, and onion steak. Everything tasted delicious, and it was nice to be able to have a leisurely conversation in a private room. Next time, I would like to go when I'm a bit more hungry. They also serve lunch, so I would like to try that as well.

On my way out, I saw a lunch set for 1000 yen limited to 30 meals in front of the station and decided to go in. It was quite crowded, but since I was alone, I was seated at the counter and was able to eat right away. By the time I left, it was even more crowded, with 2-3 groups waiting at the entrance floor. It seems to be a chain restaurant, so I didn't have high expectations, but the lunch came with coffee and dessert, and the quality and taste of the ingredients were beyond what I expected for 1000 yen. Highly recommended. It's a calm place where you can enjoy your meal, so I would recommend going in the evening next time.

This is a shop right next to JR Yamashina Station. You can't see the inside of the shop from the entrance, but it's surprisingly spacious. Inside, there is a wide earthen floor where you take off your shoes. Each pair of shoes goes into a locked shoe locker, so it might be better for women not to wear long boots (they won't fit and will be left in the earthen floor). The interior of the shop, with its understated lighting, is a calm Japanese-style space with wood as the main theme. Each table is like a private room (some have sliding doors, some don't), allowing you to relax and unwind. It seems to be quite a nice shop for Yamashina. The female staff are dressed in kimonos. The menu includes fried food, yakitori, and other izakaya dishes, as well as a variety of Japanese dishes such as sashimi and simmered dishes. It feels like a step up from a regular izakaya, so the prices are higher. You can watch the kama-meshi being cooked right in front of you and enjoy it piping hot. I find it a bit disappointing that there are few options for pasta and dessert. This is a recommended place for those who want to enjoy a relaxing time with drinks and food, rather than young people who want to eat and drink heartily.

On a weekday afternoon, the family found themselves lost in Yamashina. Following the wife's suggestion, they ended up at Hatagoya near Yamashina station. This chain izakaya also serves lunch, offering a set menu with choices like zaru soba and a small rice bowl for 1180 yen (tax included). The interior was well-maintained and the food was decent, with options like oyakodon, tempura bowl, or chashu bowl for the small rice bowl. The set also includes a side dish, pickles, dessert, and a drink bar with orange juice and coffee. Although the pricing may be a bit high for salarymen, many customers seemed to come for the drink bar. The atmosphere was relaxed, with some customers chatting until the last minute before closing at 2:30 pm. The area around Yamashina station has many set meal restaurants, but Hatagoya with its private seating areas may be a good choice for a leisurely meal. It's good to keep in mind that it may not be the best option if you're short on time.
