This is a shop specializing in brownies that opened in Kyoto on Christmas Eve last year, relocating from Shijo Kawaramachi. The new location now has an eat-in space in addition to takeout sales. I visited the shop in mid-April at Gion Shirakawa Monzenmachi and had lunch at Tsukiokasan, where they served a brownie made from the skin of a traditional Japanese sweet. The owner mentioned that the brownies are made by the proprietress of a shop in the city, and I recognized the shop as the previous takeout-only store in Kawaramachi. The new location is near the hotel where I stayed last December, and my husband remembered passing by the under-construction new store a week before the opening. The owner, Ms. Tsukioka, spent a year in New York preparing for an outpost there, where she learned a delicious brownie recipe. Although the New York outpost plan was shelved, the couple now runs a successful business in Kyoto, with Mr. Tsukioka managing a restaurant and Mrs. Tsukioka overseeing the brownie shop. I purchased some brownie offcuts and croissants for a geisha who loves chocolate, which were beautifully packaged and customizable with ribbons and name inscriptions. The variety of flavors allows for delightful assortments, and the croissants were deliciously flaky. The owners were pleased with the increased foot traffic after adding the café space, and while I couldn't enjoy their morning offerings, I believe their breakfast menu would be a great start to the day.

Tako Yakushi is a bright glass-fronted shop at the corner of Sakaimachi Street. The morning menu looked tempting, but since I had already eaten breakfast, this time I ordered a round Danish-like croissant and an iced coffee. I paid first, then took a seat. They call your number when your order is ready. The croissant was warmed up and served with butter and maple syrup on top. Is it okay to just take a big bite? It tasted fluffy and delicious. Brownie to Go for ¥500. Despite the slightly high price, it was incredibly delicious. The brownie was soft and gooey, with a rich flavor and a great texture thanks to the chocolate chips. It was more of a smooth and rich type rather than densely packed. The melt-in-your-mouth quality was truly satisfying. The taste was so good that I wish it was a bit cheaper, as I would definitely come back for more if it were.

New York brownie specialty cafe with a system where you pay upfront and pick up at the counter when ready. We tried the brownie croissant, melty raw raisin on its own, and melty raw raisin with ice cream & hot chocolate. Each of us shared and the croissant was surprisingly average, but the rum raisin raw brownie was amazing, especially with the ice cream and hot chocolate sauce on top! So delicious! If we hadn't shared, we wouldn't have discovered the one with ice cream & hot chocolate. The leftover melty raw raisin was also so tasty for takeout. The staff was very kind and the atmosphere was very satisfying. I would love to visit again. Thank you for the delicious meal.

I visited a cafe that was opened by a chocolate brownie shop I used to love in Kyoto. It was about a 10-minute walk from the Fourjo Station subway exit. I tried the "Ham, Cheese & Sunny Side Up Croissant" for 730 yen, which is a New York-style croissant with ham, cheddar cheese, and a sunny side up egg. It was absolutely delicious. I also had the "Ham & Cheese Croissant" for 650 yen, which came with pickles. Both were delicious. I also had an iced cafe au lait for 630-250 yen, which was hand-dripped. Although a bit pricey, it was a delicious morning treat!

Just moved popular shop. A brownie specialty shop from New York. I was curious about their round croissant morning set, so I went to try it out! The round croissant was freshly baked. It had a lovely buttery aroma and was very delicious. It tasted great on its own or with maple syrup. The matcha latte was rich in matcha flavor, very Kyoto-like. I wasn't planning on getting the chocolate brownie, but I couldn't resist and ended up adding it to my order. It was rich in chocolate and had a moist texture, so I ended up buying some as souvenirs too. The staff were friendly and it was a lovely shop.

Tucked away in the city, this lovely café is a hidden gem that transports you to another world. The exterior and interior are like being in a foreign country, with a calm atmosphere and moody jazz playing. The counter by the window even has trumpet-shaped lights. The showcase is filled with various types of small brownies. I ordered the Chocolate Banana Smoothie topped with brownie and banana for 800 yen. The smoothie is rich in both banana and chocolate flavors! The two flavors hit your taste buds strongly. The brownie is light, unlike the dense ones you might expect. It's rich yet light, with a gentle and natural cocoa taste. The topping of banana is delicious! It's not overly sweet, with a fresh sweetness. Most chocolate banana treats tend to be heavy, but this one is pleasantly light. They also sell brownie sets, and I saw some people buying them as Mother's Day gifts. The name East42st is the address of a station in Central New York. While Kyoto has many foreign-style cafes, this one stands out for its high-quality ambiance. The smoothie was also very delicious.
