I discovered this place while searching for craft beer, as I love craft beer! Located in Gion, Higashiyama, Kyoto, Shalara Craft Beer & Nuts offers a variety of house-brewed craft beers and a selection of nuts as interior decor. The seating is primarily standing, but there are a few seats available as well. It's first come, first served! This time, I ordered fried potatoes for 600 yen and a craft beer tasting set of 4 beers for 1,700 yen. The craft beers I tried were: 1. Singapore Lullaby (Style: Hoppy Saison / ABV: 5%) 2. Kamogawa Lady (Style: IPA / ABV: 6%) 3. Bali Sweet (I'm not sure about the style, sorry) 4. Jet Black England The Knights (Style: Porter / ABV: 5) My favorite was the Kamogawa Lady (no. 2) as it had a clean taste with minimal aftertaste. The Jet Black England The Knights (no. 4) was a black beer, and although I'm not a fan of dark beers, I found it surprisingly enjoyable with a good finish in this quantity. I visited this place when I went to Kyoto. I usually plan my trips and I like to explore and walk around during my travels, so I tend to pack my itinerary full. I expected to be very tired this time. I enjoy relaxing with a cup of coffee at a cafe, but I also can't resist a beer when I'm tired after walking a lot. So, after walking a lot, we decided to stop by here. The new store has a stylish atmosphere with 2-3 groups of people enjoying beer (counter seats and table seats). When we told the master our preferences, he chose something that seemed good. You can try up to 2 types of beer for tasting, so we chose two that we were interested in, and I asked for one of them. My husband chose a light and low-alcohol beer without tasting. I also asked for a slightly light and refreshing type that I tasted that day. New York Moonlight Regular Size 850 yen A light and easy-to-drink beer with a fruity taste. It's refreshing and you can still taste the hop aroma and the richness of the beer, while also being refreshing. You can easily drink it casually even on hot days. Singapore Lullaby Regular Size 850 yen The one my husband chose is even lighter! It has a drier sensation, and I think this one is perfect for hot summers. I liked the taste of the beer, as well as the fact that you can easily drink it and the good service at the store. I would like to stop by again when I want to take a break in the Gion area.

Yamato-Ōji Street is located diagonally across from Ebisu Shrine. In the basement of a building is Sharara, which opened about 3 years ago, just before the start of the pandemic. It was closed for a long time, but finally reopened for regular business in the spring of 2022. When I visited, I noticed that there were many foreign customers in the evening. On a hot day, I was thirsty and the staff outside the shop called me in for a tasting. I went back to the shop and ordered a small size craft beer, specifically the Weizen listed at the top of the menu. It had a ripe banana-like flavor with a tropical touch, and paired well with the cashew nuts I ordered. The shop initially targeted foreign customers, but due to the pandemic, they now focus on young Japanese tourists, offering soft drinks and food. The environment is open with windows and doors, making it suitable for those concerned about ventilation. They offer a variety of nuts, and I ordered a 4-flavor tasting set for 1500 yen. The owner recommended drinking the beer in a regular glass for better taste. The shop used to only serve beer and nuts, but has now transitioned to a "beer cafe" style with added soft drinks and a small food menu.
