I bought some food to eat on the Shinkansen train. It was around 2:10 pm on a weekday. The store is located on the 2nd floor of Kyoto Station Building's specialty store area called 'The CUBE'. It's a corner of 'Kyomei Kyo・Meisyo Miyako' where they sell sushi and other dishes. The prices are on the higher side. I purchased the "Black Kombu Mackerel Sushi for 2,200 yen" and the "Tango Bara Sushi (Festival) for 980 yen" (both including tax). It's enough for two people. I enjoyed them on the Tokaido Shinkansen 'Hikari' Green Car around 2:40 pm. The "Black Kombu Mackerel Sushi" is a mackerel sushi wrapped in kombu, cut into bite-sized pieces. It reminded me of 'Komei's' "Gosabemon Sushi". It came with disposable chopsticks and a hand towel. The mackerel had a good amount of fat and tasted quite good. However, it lacked saltiness and I wished for soy sauce on the side. Also, the kombu didn't stick well and peeled off easily. A regular mackerel sushi without kombu might be better. The "Tango Bara Sushi (Festival)" came in a square container with a light amount of volume. It had sushi rice with seasoned mackerel flakes, topped with shredded egg, simmered shiitake mushrooms, red and white kamaboko, green peas, and pickled ginger. It had a colorful appearance. The sweet and savory seasoned mackerel flakes added a nice contrast in flavor, making it quite tasty. I preferred it over the "Black Kombu Mackerel Sushi".

"A famous shop known for its Tango Barazushi. They also have mackerel sushi on display. I was pondering what to buy for dinner when a staff member approached me and suggested, 'How about trying the conger eel sushi? It's a summer specialty in Kyoto.' I'm a sucker for words like 'seasonal' and 'local specialties.' I bought the conger eel sushi and opened it at home. The sushi was topped with a single grain of sansho pepper, making it look even more delicious. I heard that they use rice from Yosano-cho in northern Kyoto at 'Kayo Sushi.' Even at home, I was able to taste the flavors of Kyoto."
