On November 13th, 2021 (Saturday): Special Breakfast/Scrambled Eggs (with bread and drink) (1150 yen) This bakery, established in 1913, is said to have introduced French bread for the first time in Japan, marking the beginning of Kyoto's bread culture. With multiple locations including bakery restaurants, self-service bakery cafes, and bakery shops, the North Yamashina store is one of the two largest stores among the stores operated by Ennendo. The location is about a minute's walk west from exit 2 of Kyoto Municipal Subway Karasuma Line North Yamashina Station. Upon arrival before 9 am, the store's 100 seats on the 1st and 2nd floors were already full. We were the 7th group on the waiting list. Fortunately, the turnover was fast, and we were seated at a window-side table for four on the 1st floor within 15 minutes. We ordered the above menu available only at the North Yamashina store (or the Sanjo Kawaramachi store). My daughter ordered the Soup Breakfast Set/Clam Chowder (with bread and drink) (980 yen). While waiting, customers kept arriving at the takeout corner on the left side of the 1st floor by car. Soon, the following items were served: Main plate: Scrambled eggs, long coarse-ground sausage (with coarse-ground mustard), fried potatoes, salad (sunny lettuce, purple lettuce, broccoli, cherry tomatoes) on one plate. The long coarse-ground sausage was boiled beforehand and lightly seared before serving. It had a soft texture. Drink: I chose hot coffee. Bread service: I selected three types of bread from over 10 varieties offered as a service - pain de mie, garlic-flavored baguette, and baked cheese bread. They were all delicious. My daughter, on the other hand, kept getting refills whenever the staff visited our table, and she managed to finish all eight varieties (laughs). We enjoyed our morning meal while having a delightful conversation, spending about an hour. It was a truly satisfying and elegant morning in Kyoto that fulfilled our long-awaited visit.

The clam chowder was rich and paired well with plain bread. The walnut and raisin bread, as well as the bread with moroheiya (mallow) were delicious. I used it for lunch and takeout. I have always loved the bread from Shinshindo, and have often used it, but the variety of bread has decreased a bit, and the taste seems to have faded slightly. The potato soup was delicious. The lemon cream pasta is delicious, but the flavor is a little strong.

I purchased a red bean bun and edamame bean French bread at a bakery. They also had the trendy NY-style Danish rolls in pistachio, lemon, and black sugar kinako flavors. The red bean bun had a fluffy texture that paired well with the red bean filling. The edamame bean French bread was soft and complemented the edamame beans well.

Minestrone set (1650 yen) Main dish + all-you-can-eat bread + drink set. The all-you-can-eat bread was amazing, not just any bread for all-you-can-eat, but sliced bread that is displayed in the shop. I wanted to eat a lot of bread, so I chose soup as the main dish. There were also hearty options like hamburgers and pasta. The Minestrone had plenty of ingredients and a generous portion! It was delicious and went well with the bread. Parking available.

Minestrone set (with bread, salad, and drink) can be customized to include only the bread you like from Shinshindo bakery. Each bread is bite-sized, allowing you to enjoy various flavors and textures. There are cranberry and raisin hard bread, flaky croissant, sweet bean bread, fluffy brown rice bread, cheese-filled bread, mini okra bread, spicy cod roe French bread, garlic French bread, and more. They all complement the minestrone soup perfectly. The only drink option is hot coffee, with free refills. I also bought some baguettes from the bakery corner to take home. Thank you for the delicious meal.

I visited GW in the evening, so there weren't many options left, but I had a Danish savory pastry. The dough was delicious, and since there is also a restaurant attached, the ingredients were tasty as well. The very large macaron had a satisfying texture and was delicious.

Despite living quite close by, I surprisingly didn't visit this shop often. I stopped by around 3 pm and the cafe area was quite crowded. The kids were eating again, but I just had a coffee (which was refillable for 500 yen).

I had a nightingale France and a cinnamon roll at the store. For eating in, you need to order one drink. I had today's soup (minestrone). There is a toaster in the eating in corner, so you can warm up your bread if you like. I had a warm drink and bread, and it was a comforting time.

Arrived at the restaurant just before 10 am at the end of the year, thinking it would be empty as their morning hours are from 7:30 to 11:00. However, there was a long wait with many people in line. After waiting for about 40 minutes, we were finally seated. We were interested in the "All-you-can-eat bread" option, so we chose from the menu. For drinks, they offered hot tea with milk and coffee with free refills. The breakfast sets we ordered were the "Special Breakfast Set" with fluffy scrambled eggs, fried potatoes, fresh salad, and a long wiener, all of which were delicious, and the "Soup Breakfast Set" with clam chowder and crackers, which was also tasty. The bread selection, including croissants and raisin walnut bread, was excellent. The service was great, although it would have been better if there were call buttons on each table. Overall, we enjoyed our experience at the restaurant, and we hope they can provide more parking spaces in the future.

We chose the special breakfast set which came with a main plate, bread service, and a drink. I ordered fried eggs with hot tea, and my partner ordered scrambled eggs with hot coffee. - Special Breakfast (Fried Eggs): This dish came with long sausages, two sunny-side-up eggs, and fried potatoes on a white plate. It also included a salad with lettuce, cherry tomatoes, and broccoli. The sausages were soft and juicy, the eggs were runny, and the potatoes were crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. The salad paired well with the tangy dressing. We also enjoyed the bread service where we could choose from a variety of bread like croissants and brioche. - Special Breakfast (Scrambled Eggs): This dish was similar to the fried eggs version but with scrambled eggs instead. The scrambled eggs were creamy and had a gentle flavor. Despite the late hour, we enjoyed a luxurious breakfast. The bread service was a highlight. We would love to visit again if given the chance.

It's often the case that all-you-can-eat bread restaurants have mediocre food and portions, but here, both were satisfying. The presentation was also lovely, making it enjoyable visually as well.

Visited Shinshindo located diagonally across from the north gate of the Kyoto Botanical Garden. Purchased popular items such as Burnt Butter French Toast for ¥300, Trois Fromages for ¥300, Croissant au Beurre for ¥220, and Salt Bread for ¥130. The taste was consistently delicious.

In Kyoto, the famous Shinshindo's Kitayama branch has a spacious eat-in space on the second floor, and a cafe on the first floor. The morning menu on the first floor is also attractive, but I enjoyed eating the bread I purchased on the second floor. There is a toaster in the store, the seats are spacious, and it's a hidden gem cafe where you can relax.

The menu offers a variety of options, reminiscent of a unique family restaurant. Although I had indulged in too many treats before arriving, I couldn't resist trying one more sweet treat. Despite feeling guilty, I was delighted to savor it slowly at Shinshindo.

125th bakery♡ When I go to Kyoto, I always pass by this bakery that I've been curious about for a while (＊◕ᴗ◕＊)♡ This was my first visit this time. Maybe because it was a weekday, they had a wide variety of breads. I couldn't decide (´>∀<｀)♡♡ - Kitayama Melon 180 yen - Banana and Walnut Croissant 220 yen - Curry Cheese Wiener 280 yen - Uguisu Bean French Bread 170 yen I decided to try the Kitayama Melon since it was recommended. It was surprisingly fluffy and delicious♡♡ I'm glad I bought it♡♡ The Banana and Walnut Croissant was delicious with a subtle sweetness (◍´ꇴ`◍)♡ I couldn't stop eating it♡ The Uguisu Bean French Bread had a nice salty taste and was delicious (๑´ڡ`๑)♡ This bakery also offers eat-in options♡♡ I hope to eat in there someday(ღ*ˇᴗˇ*)｡o♡♡

I came to Kyoto for cherry blossom viewing. When it comes to cherry blossom viewing in Kyoto, places like Arashiyama, Higashiyama, Daigo-ji, and Hirano Shrine are popular choices. However, they are always unbelievably crowded! I don't want to go to such crowded places. One of my favorite spots to visit is the Kyoto Imperial Palace Gardens. It's relatively less crowded and the cherry blossoms are beautiful! But this year, I decided to change things up and visit the Kyoto Botanical Garden. This place is not frequented by tourists and mostly visited by locals. First, I took the subway to Kitayama. As soon as I got out of the station, I went to Shinshindo, a bakery nearby. It was packed with people waiting to eat in, and even inside, it was crowded. It was lunchtime and the bakery was bustling with activity. I quickly bought some bread and wanted to leave, but the checkout line was also crowded. The botanical garden was also quite crowded with families and senior groups, but the cherry blossoms were incredibly beautiful. I found a relatively less crowded spot, spread out a picnic sheet, and enjoyed my coffee that I brought from home. I bought a MBS Pastrami & Onion sandwich for 380 yen and a croissant for 210 yen. The croissant was crispy, maybe a bit too crispy for my liking. I prefer it to be a bit more moist. But it was big and felt like a good deal. The MBS Pastrami & Onion sandwich was made with hard French bread, thin slices of roast beef, and lots of onions. The dressing was delicious. It was a lovely lunch under the fully bloomed cherry blossoms. At this time of year, restaurants are always crowded, so a picnic is the best choice. It was a bit unexpected how crowded it was, so I decided to casually walk around and leave. Everyone seemed to have the same idea. But compared to places like Arashiyama, the crowd here was more manageable.

The bakery I was aiming for was all closed for the day. I didn't do enough research. I cheered up and visited this bakery while looking at Tabelog. The hard bread with walnuts and raisins was chewy and juicy, it was the best. Next time, I will revisit along with nearby bakeries.

I went to the major bakery Brian in Kyoto, but it was closed on their regular holiday. The area around Matsugasaki and Kitayama is usually closed on Mondays and Tuesdays! On my way back, I found this place that was open, so I decided to give it a try. I looked around, but I couldn't get Brian out of my head. It wasn't really my type. Sorry. I got a piroshki for ¥240 and a mini croissant decorated in a Christmas style with chocolate for ¥150. I toasted the piroshki and it was delicious. I liked it. It had plenty of vegetables along with the meat. If I go again, I might just go for tea.

First of all, the customer service is excellent. The staff are well-trained. I visited Freshness Burger on the same day, and the customer service there was terrible. Chain store employees tend to come off as cold. The difference between a top-notch establishment and a chain store is clear. Shinshindo is definitely a top-notch restaurant. It may get crowded on weekends and holidays due to the botanical garden nearby, but it seems possible to dine inside on weekdays. I will definitely come back.

On a regular Wednesday at 9:30, the customer entered the shop and found it a bit crowded. They purchased 2 piroshkis for ¥220 each, 2 bacon epics for ¥400 each, and a paper bag for ¥5, totaling ¥1245 including tax. The piroshkis were good, and the bacon epic was even better than expected. The dough itself was delicious. I would like to buy them again. The staff's service was also good! Thank you for the meal.
