The egg dishes were delicious. The staff was very friendly and I want to become a regular customer. It's a good idea to go to a hearty meal at the first place, but it's also nice to stop by a flat place for a drink at the second or later place and enjoy various dishes. It's a place where you can go alone and relax and drink slowly.

Mukaya-cho "Kyoto Negiyaki" Today, as always, enjoying some okonomiyaki. On this day, I made a quick stop at "Kyoto Negiyaki" in Mukaya-cho. This restaurant has been around for 15 years, located between Chao Chao Gyoza and Ramen Miyoshi, it's easy to miss but worth a visit. The main branch is in Nishinokyo called "Ohotsuku," where they serve traditional okonomiyaki, but this branch specializes in negiyaki. The store used to be called "Ohotsuku Mukaya-cho," but now it is known as "Kyoto Negiyaki." The cozy counter-only interior was empty when I arrived, making it perfect for a chat with the master. The solo set for 1430 yen includes a cold draft beer, the famous negiyaki, and juicy sujiyaki, which is a great deal. The cold beer and sujiyaki make for a delightful toast. Then, the negiyaki arrives. The spicy sauce is quickly spread on top, followed by a sweet sauce for a two-layered flavor. The konnyaku and suji are cooked separately, each with a rich taste. The dashi-infused batter with the sweetness of the leeks creates a light yet flavorful dish. The contrast between the chewy batter and crunchy leeks is delightful. A perfect spot for a quick visit.

On a Sunday afternoon, the final day of a three-day weekend in November, I met up with an old acquaintance at JR Kyoto Station. The station was bustling with crowds, making it difficult to find each other. After a series of twists and turns, we ended up at a restaurant on Kiyamachi Street called "Negiyaki." We were tired from walking around and decided to give it a try. The restaurant had a counter with two elderly men who looked identical. We ordered Sapporo Black beer and a set menu for two, which included negiyaki, sujiyaki, pickled cucumbers, and tonpeiyaki. The food was delicious and the price was reasonable. The experience was unique, with the twin owners adding to the charm of the place. Overall, it was a satisfying end to a day of wandering in search of a place to eat.

It's a restaurant that serves negiyaki. I'm not sure if it uses Kujo green onions. It was simple and delicious. It's just right for a casual drink.

Happy New Year!! First dining out of the year!! Kyoto, around Shijo and Pontocho are quite crowded during the New Year period, but I'm grateful that some places are open for business. I chose to try the Negiyaki (green onion pancake) at this restaurant run by the Ohtsukuru twins. The owner warmly welcomed us. Due to the location, there were many foreign customers as well. The set menu for two people allowed us to try a variety of the restaurant's main dishes. The Negiyaki was delicious! I couldn't help but exclaim out loud. Everything else was also very tasty. I would love to visit this place again when I come back to Kyoto. Thank you for the meal! I will definitely come back!

In early December, heavy snowfall has been reported in various areas, but let's talk about a bonus from Kyoto sweets hunting lol. It was late November during the autumn foliage season, so let's go to Kyoto! (J○ Tokai lol) Reusing the opening (6th time lol), this is the sweet tooth representative from Gifu, "Sugar King" ☆Jim☆. During the Kyoto sweets hunting at the end of the trip, on the way from Kilfeybon to the parking lot, I was drawn by the smell of this shop and ended up stopping by. Ohotuku Kiyamachi Store. I was tempted by the sign for negiyaki (green onion pancake) and ended up buying it. Tonpei-yaki for 600 yen. It's made by wrapping pork in the dough of negiyaki and grilling it, seasoned with your choice of sauce, ketchup, and mayonnaise. It was delicious, but the mayonnaise was a bit too much for me. However, the pork was about 1 cm thick and the dough had a good amount of eggs, so it was quite tasty. But... the mayonnaise was unnecessary lol. Ohotsuku Kiyamachi Store. 117 Ishiyacho, Kiyamachi Street, Sanjo-sagaru, Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture. 075-212-8988. Business hours: 6:00 PM to 3:00 AM (LO), Saturdays until 4:00 AM (LO). Closed on unspecified days.

Today was another busy day, but I managed to push through it and pat myself on the back. As a reward, I decided to go out for a solo drink in Sanjo Kiya-machi. I was drawn to the "Ohotsuku Kiya-machi Store" where they had a menu item called the "Solo Set". It included negiyaki for 600 yen, sujiyaki for 500 yen, and a draft beer for 450 yen, all for a discounted price of 1,300 yen instead of 1,550 yen. The place only had counter seats for about 5-6 people, and I chose to sit at the center of the counter. The place seemed quite empty, with only one other customer who seemed to be a regular. I ordered the "Solo Set" and was served a chilled draft beer first. It was so cold that it made me shiver, despite it being winter. Next, the sujiyaki arrived, cut into small cubes and cooked with a savory soy sauce flavor. It had a nice texture and flavor. Finally, the negiyaki was served, made with plenty of Kujo green onions, Omi beef suji, and Gunma konjac. It reminded me of the taste of a similar dish I had at Shijo Nawa-te, but I prefer the one there. I wish the negiyaki had a bit more sauce. Overall, it was a satisfying meal, especially for solo dining.

In Kyoto at night, for the second stop, we went for some B-class gourmet food. I thought negiyaki was more of an Osaka thing, but I didn't mind. It seems they use Kujo negi for their negiyaki. Kujo negi is a type of Kyoto vegetable. So it's Kyoto-style negiyaki, got it. The atmosphere of the restaurant had a great B-class vibe. We had negiyaki, sujiyaki, cucumber, eggplant, kimchi, and more, about 8 dishes in total. We ate, drank, and the bill came to 7,700 yen for three people.

I often pass by a negiyaki restaurant on Sanjo Kiya-machi Sagaru, but I didn't have a chance to go until today when I saw it was open for lunch. The twin brothers working there were lively and friendly. The specialty seemed to be the Negiyaki made with Kujyo Negi, but I found it lacking in the flavor and sweetness of the negi itself. The filling included konnyaku, beef offal, oil kasu, and egg, priced at 600 yen each. It might be a great place for a drink in the evening. I couldn't drink alcohol during lunch because of work, but I felt like having a drink. Besides the negiyaki, there were various other teppan dishes on the menu, so I would like to try them out next time in the evening.

When I visited Kyoto, I wandered along the Kamo River and was drawn to the sign for "Kujonegi-yaki" (Kyoto green onion pancakes). I ended up at Kyoto Negiyaki Okhotsk Kiyamachi store. The first floor only has counter seats. You have to take off your shoes, and climb the narrow stairs to reach the second-floor tatami seating area. The low ceiling may feel a bit cramped, but it's cozy. The green onion pancakes cost 600 yen and are made with Kyoto's Kujonegi green onions, Gunma's konjac, and Omi beef tendon. I got hooked on these green onion pancakes and ended up ordering them multiple times during my stay.

I imagined a smoky interior with a street food stall vibe, but it was cleaner than I expected. There was a counter, but since I wanted to relax, I went upstairs. The layout felt like a renovated house, with narrow and steep stairs like visiting a friend's place. However, this homely atmosphere was quite nice. It may have been because it wasn't crowded, but the food came out quickly. They had a specialty negiyaki made with Kujyo green onions, and a variety of other side dishes that were satisfying. They take pride in their beef tendon dishes, using "Omi beef" tendon, and all of them were delicious.
