I visited "Ban Chamu" in Mejiro. It is a long-established coffee shop founded in 1977 located in front of Mejiro Station. The place seems to have been recently renovated as I noticed new signs. Today, I decided to visit for breakfast. As I entered through the orange roof and descended underground, I was greeted by a pleasant chime. The interior had a calm classical style, and the background music added to the soothing atmosphere. I placed my order with the friendly staff. Here's what I had:
- Cafe Ban Chamu (750 yen tax included): A signature item since 1977. The coffee cream on top was beautifully layered. The long cup added to the ambiance. The taste was a delightful mix of the sweetness of the cream and the good bitterness of the coffee, like drinking a refreshing coffee jelly.
- Morning Set (boiled egg): I visited early in the morning and received a complimentary morning set with my drink. The toast was crispy with plenty of butter, and the boiled egg was perfectly cooked. I enjoyed it with a sprinkle of salt and some strawberry jam.
- Mini Soft Serve: Despite the complimentary items, I had a coupon from Tabelog which I could use. The pure white soft serve was rich and a perfect dessert.
Overall, I was very satisfied in many aspects - the taste, the atmosphere, and the variety of appealing menu items. It's a great coffee shop! I will definitely revisit. The payment was made with a credit card, and I found the price to be very satisfactory. It was delicious. I will come back again. Thank you for the meal.

Did you know that there are places in Tokyo where there is only the Yamanote Line station after 20 years of coming here? One of them is Shin-Okubo, and the other is Myogadani where our shop is located. It's my first time in Myogadani! The entrance has one ticket gate, and the station is surrounded by a large open square with buildings from Ikebukuro in front of it. It's a strange feeling place. Our shop opens at 7:30, but when I arrived at 7:30, the shutter was closed. I thought, "Huh? It said there are no regular holidays, but could it be...?" I waited, and a few minutes later, it opened. Thank goodness! The stairs leading to the basement are so exciting, right? (similar to the feeling at Ginza's Furansu-ya ☕️) For those with lots of luggage, please be careful. I love this type of potato, so I had to try the hash browns from the Morning Set C. These classic coffee shops are the best!

This is a Showa retro-style café with a calm atmosphere in front of Mejiro Station! I ordered a homemade coffee jelly coffee shake. The coffee shake is delicious, comparable to Starbucks, and the homemade coffee jelly is not too sweet with a hint of bitterness, making it a mature coffee jelly.

I tried "Ban Chayume" because they offer a morning set with a drink for free. The prices may be a bit higher than chain cafes, but the coffee is authentic and the bread and boiled eggs are delicious. It's a great place to relax and enjoy the flavors, although it may take some time.

A long-established cafe in front of Mejiro Station. I visited for the first time during Sunday cafe time and as expected, it was crowded. The interior was renovated last October, so I'm not sure what it was like before. I was seated at a slightly open table and ordered the "Cafe Ban Sayume" (750 yen) that I had been curious about. I also asked for a mini soft serve (free coupon) and received another coupon when paying. When the Cafe Ban Sayume was served, I was told "Please do not stir it" and I followed the instructions. It's a drink with sweet cream on top of the coffee, allowing you to enjoy the change from sweetness to bitterness in taste. Smoking seems to be allowed, but I didn't see anyone smoking around me, so I looked it up and found that there is a smoking booth available. It was quite crowded on the holiday, so I couldn't relax, but I would like to visit again on another day.

I had a reason to go to Mejiro after a long time, so I stopped by the cafe Ban Chayamu in front of the station. The cafe offers coffee sweets that are sweet and creamy, giving a delightful sensation. I enjoyed a cafe au lait with extra milk, which had a gentle taste. The cheese baked curry with egg topping had a rich curry flavor that paired well with the bread and cheese. The egg had a taste similar to the filling of an egg sandwich. As usual, I received a mini coffee jelly or mini soft-serve ice cream, along with a bite-sized rice cracker as a service. There is also a smoking booth, making it easy to relax in the calm atmosphere of the cafe.

I also summarize gourmet information on Instagram (@rmmk__). Please check it out! I found a cozy cafe in Mejiro where you can relax ☕️ [Food tried] - Dorayaki-style soft serve pancake (¥600) - Blend coffee (¥500) The thin dough and plenty of sweet red bean paste made it feel like I was really eating stacked dorayaki. The store was quite spacious and seemed like a nice place to relax, so it was very good!

I visited here because I was craving for Napolitan for lunch. I ordered the Napolitan set (¥1,100) and chose orange juice as my drink. The orange juice arrived in a few minutes, it was a modest 200ml serving. Shortly after, the Napolitan also arrived. The noodles were soft (which I liked) and delicious. It tasted great when I added Tabasco sauce to it, complementing the tomato acidity. The portion size was not very large, so it may not be satisfying for those who eat a lot. The restaurant was about 40% full even during lunchtime, making it very calm. Also, the Wi-Fi connection was good, making it suitable for light work.

I ordered the characteristic cold brew iced coffee for ¥660. The taste was average. The interior of the shop had dim lighting, creating a calming atmosphere. It was located 2-3 minutes from the station, on the basement floor of a building. There was also a smoking area available. Although I did not have a meal, they offered a light snack menu.

The atmosphere was calm and very cozy. Pleasant jazz music was playing softly, and the conversations around were not loud, creating a relaxing and leisurely environment. You could order a larger size coffee for just an additional 100 yen, making it a great deal. I would definitely want to visit this place again when I'm in Mejiro.

I somehow ended up here. I ordered the lunch set with Napolitan spaghetti for 1,100 yen. I had it with iced coffee. The Napolitan spaghetti was simple. I wanted more aroma and freshness from the vegetables. It tasted similar to a certain frozen food product. Frozen food Napolitan spaghetti these days are quite delicious. The taste is good, but I don't think they can do a large portion.

I ordered tea at Cafe Ban Chamu today and received a mini red bean mochi, mini coffee jelly, and rice crackers as a service (and for each person). It turned into a luxurious tea time. The calm atmosphere, which doesn't feel like it's in front of the station, may be due to being underground. It felt like a secret base and was enjoyable.

On January 23, 2023, I visited Banmucha to try their famous "Cheese Baked Curry Bread", but I was also intrigued by the limited-time offer of "Cheese Baked Mochi Curry". I decided to go with the limited-time option after all. The curry was rich and delicious, and the texture of the mochi was also great. Eating it with cheese was very satisfying. Thank you for the meal. Next time, I want to try the Cheese Baked Curry Bread!

The food is delicious, the desserts are fantastic, and they have a strong emphasis on coffee. The underground location adds a bit of a suffocating feel, but it has a cozy, hidden gem vibe reminiscent of old-fashioned cafes. It used to cater more to smokers, but now it seems to be more smoke-free. There are both smoking and non-smoking regulars. The coffee may not meet extremely high expectations, but it is carefully brewed and decent. The café latte is perfect for a leisurely time. The morning and lunch menus are popular. The dry curry can be a bit heavy, and the spaghetti lacks richness. However, considering that coffee is the main focus of this café, the menu is acceptable. It has a nostalgic charm and overall, it is a good quality café with a great atmosphere.

A calm and cozy atmosphere, affordable prices, loud music, and the option to order a cold, sweet, creamy beverage like the Ban Chayume. It makes you want to savor it slowly like a dessert. Plus, they give you a bite-sized snack with your drink. They also have a smoking booth now.

During my student days, I often took black and white photos to capture a fashionable atmosphere. I was impressed by how different the visible world is from the black and white world. Speaking of black and white, there are some confusing things in both the East and the West. For example, in Ikebukuro, the Big Camera song mentions that the Seibu is in the east and the Tobu is in the west, which is the opposite. Similarly, former Prime Minister Kakuei Tanaka, who prayed for the normalization of Sino-Japanese relations before it happened, lived not in Meguro, but here in Mejiro. Today, I had a lovely morning at Han Chayume in Mejiro, where you can enjoy a nice breakfast. Although there is a Doutor chain store on the 1st floor, only those who like it will pass by and go downstairs. I am a fan of eggs, so I was curious about the boiled eggs, but I chose the B set with toast and red bean paste. I also ordered a Golden Coffee. First, the coffee was served in about 3 minutes. The container is made of wonderful pottery, which is impressive. With a sip, you can taste the bitterness and aroma, making it quite flavorful. Next, the main dish arrived in about 5 minutes. The subtle saltiness of the butter and the juicy delicious taste combined with the crispy taste of the bread was wonderful. By adding the red bean paste, the oily and salty flavors were instantly transformed into a sweet world. The mysterious fusion of saltiness and sweetness, along with the crispy texture of the toast, makes it irresistible. Next time, I would like to visit during lunchtime and try the cheese baked bread curry and the Neapolitan.

When the current Emperor was a student at Gakushuin University, he used to visit this retro café. You can feel the atmosphere of a different era from the moment you descend the stairs to the basement. The specialty is "Pan Curry," and they offer a variety of curry dishes. Coffee is categorized into "Standard Blend," "Specialty Coffee," and "Coffee Drinks," giving you the joy of choice. I tried the classic "King Arthur Coffee." According to the description, it is a "strong blend." It is indeed strong, but surprisingly not heavy. It was a wonderful place that made me forget about time and era. [Date of Visit] Saturday (Sunny) / 4:00 PM [Queue] None [Service Time] About 4 minutes

It's located along the street, but being underground makes it quiet and nice. I really wanted to eat curry or Napolitan, but I couldn't afford to get my clothes dirty, so I had the dry curry lunch for 950 yen. It came with iced straight tea. I tried my best not to make a mess while eating, but I still managed to splatter a bit, so I restrained myself today. The salad only had lettuce, but the dressing was very delicious. The dry curry was simple yet tasty with a good balance of spiciness and sweetness from the vegetables. The straight tea was also fragrant. Next time, I'll try the Napolitan.

This is a cafe in a basement near Mejiro Station. It has a calm and relaxing atmosphere, away from the scorching heat outside. During lunchtime, I ordered a set of Napolitan pasta and a drink. You can choose from a variety of drinks, from strong coffee to iced coffee. I wanted a strong hot coffee to perk me up, so I asked for the "King Arthur" which was a strong hot coffee on the menu. It took a little while for the order to arrive, but I was able to patiently wait in the peaceful environment. When the Napolitan pasta was served in a skillet, it looked delicious. It had the classic powdered cheese and Tabasco sauce on the side. The noodles were thick and al dente, giving it a nostalgic "baked Napolitan" feel. It seems like this cafe has been a longstanding establishment in Mejiro for many years. These academic district cafes still have a friendly and welcoming vibe.

I went during the day on a weekday. I ordered the cheese bread curry. You can choose your favorite drink with the morning set, and for the price of that drink, you can also add a toast set. The calm atmosphere is perfect for working or chatting with friends. The restaurant is located underground, but there is free WiFi available inside, which I was able to use without any problems.
