I had a Kyoto-style bento box. I couldn't tell the difference from the regular one, but let's start with the regular one first... The miso soup was well-made, as expected. The rice was cooked perfectly. Each side dish was not large in portion, but I think that's good. Each dish had a distinct flavor, not too strong or too light. It was a bit more expensive than a regular lunch, but I was satisfied. Next time, I'll try the premium one... Thank you for the meal.

I couldn't visit for a while, but I called and visited. The menu had "Conger eel and egg bowl," and it mentioned that you could change the soup to somen for 110 yen. The Kyoto-style bento was as usual, with conger eel sashimi included. The somen was ordinary but generous. The grilled eel, pumpkin side dish, pickled radish, and shredded mountain pepper were all delicious as usual.

This is probably my fourth time ordering, and I went with the same order as the first time. For sashimi, I had yellowtail and sea bream. The bento box had eel with thinly sliced ginger. Starting from the bottom right, there was simmered kashiwa in soy sauce, cucumber and seaweed salad. There was also pumpkin, bamboo shoots, green beans, tofu, fish cake, and rolled omelette. The pickled vegetables and pickled mountain pepper were delicious, and the miso soup had spinach instead of green vegetables. Almost all the side dishes were the same as last time, so the flavors were consistent and well-executed. It was deeply satisfying and delicious.

Today I ordered the tempura bento box, which came with sashimi as well. While I have my preferences, I don't particularly enjoy tempura. I found the Kyoto bento box to be more delicious. The regular customers in the neighborhood were chatting about business and various topics. There's a difference when it comes to historic restaurants.

I decided to go a bit fancy and ordered a Kyoto-style bento box. Surprisingly, it wasn't crowded before noon. The bento box was quite luxurious, with eel standing out prominently. It included sashimi, small taro soaked in dashi, rolled omelette, and flavorful chicken. The dishes seemed to match the cold weather of late autumn. The flavors were just as I expected, with pickled vegetables and kelp. Shikisuitei - Cold taro soaked in dashi, winter.

If you google the noren curtain, the landlady will greet you with "Welcome!" and disinfect your hands with alcohol before leading you to the seats on the left. Before googling the noren curtain, I saw two girls playing in the dirt and wondered if their mother was waiting for them. But then, they energetically said, "Welcome!" It was amazing to see the power of children! The atmosphere, setting, and food all made me feel like I had come back home or traveled back in time to a nostalgic moment. The bento box was delicious, especially the sashimi! Everything else was also cozy and nice, but I was surprised by how good the sashimi was in Kyoto. I definitely want to go back to this restaurant that made me feel that way.

A calm atmosphere inside the restaurant. A sense of security from the long-established reputation. A slightly surprising dish of yuzu pepper soy sauce pickles. And despite the reasonable prices, it doesn't attract much attention. A hidden gem among hidden gems.

I went to Kyoto for work and visited this restaurant for the first time. I ordered the lunch menu unagi (eel) rice bowl for ¥1,700. The eel was prepared in the Edo-style, steamed and then grilled, with a thick and sweet sauce. The rice and eel were served separately, with sansho pepper sprinkled on top of the eel and additional whole sansho pepper provided on the side. The eel was rich and sweet in flavor, so sprinkling the whole sansho pepper on the rice before eating the eel created a nice balance of flavors. Considering the high price of eel, the portion size for ¥1,700 was reasonable.

A restaurant located south of the Imperial Palace in the center of Kyoto. When you enter the alley to the left of the courthouse from the Imperial Palace and turn left at the four-way intersection, you will find a traditional old shop. I ordered the Imperial Palace bento for 2,100 yen. It was the highest quality bento in the shop, priced more reasonably compared to other nearby shops. The sake served was Tamano Hikari, a bit pricey but delicious cold sake. It has a smooth taste that gradually spreads through your body without any harshness. The staff at this restaurant are also very kind and welcoming. The elderly lady outside, who appears to be in her seventies, is incredibly kind and soothing. Her gentle gestures create a relaxing atmosphere. The chef, an elderly gentleman, also has a warm smile and a kind demeanor. Now, let's focus on the bento itself. The bento box is hexagonal in shape with just the right amount of food. The Kyoto-style makunouchi bento includes deliciously seasoned rice balls and a variety of seasonal dishes such as sashimi, grilled fish, simmered vegetables, yakitori, tamagoyaki, and uguisu beans. Each item in the bento is carefully prepared and stands out on its own. The remaining dishes are also Kyoto-style, including dishes like nasu dengaku, yuba, and pickled vegetables, accompanied by a soup. The lady kindly asked if I needed more rice during the meal. Good food, good atmosphere, good price. If you ever find yourself in Kyoto, this is a great restaurant worth visiting again.

I am the one who thinks that AKB's Oshima-san, Takahashi-san, and Masuda from Masuda Okada are the same person. When I went to CAFE DE NAIKI, I saw a shop that caught my attention. They only serve lunch, so I decided to go there for lunch on my day off. Even though I had drank quite a bit the night before, I was craving something hearty, so I aimed for the eel rice bowl. The menu was simple, with options like the "Kyoto-style bento box," "tempura set meal," and "eel rice bowl." Each had an upgraded "premium" version available. There was also the most expensive option, the "Gosho bento box." I decided to order the "premium eel rice bowl" since I was there. The restaurant had a capacity of about 12 people with tatami and table seating on the first floor. It felt like visiting a relative's house. I sat in a corner and waited for a while. It took quite some time. The dish arrived in a two-tiered container with plenty of Japanese pepper, pickles, and soup. The eel and rice were served separately, so I placed the eel, sauce, and Japanese pepper on the rice according to my preference and dug in. Being thrifty, I ended up pouring all the sauce and Japanese pepper on top, but the eel was fluffy, juicy, and delicious. The rice had the perfect texture and the aroma from the Japanese pepper increased my appetite. The simple soup also complemented the meal well, leaving me satisfied even after finishing it. I'm curious about the difference between the "regular" and "premium" options, but I recommend going for the "premium" since you're already there. If you want to eat healthier, you can also try the "Kyoto-style bento box." The service wasn't outstanding, but the polite and humble demeanor of the staff left a good impression.

Maru Take Ebizu... The street of Takeya-cho, just south of Kyoto Imperial Palace, is lined with many residential houses, making it a quiet area. I had known about Fujitei, a restaurant located here, for some time. The exterior has a calm appearance with a simple menu displayed, but I had hesitated to enter before. However, on this day, as I passed by, the door was open and I caught a glimpse inside, so my curiosity got the better of me and I decided to step in. I was greeted warmly and led to the left side of the first floor. (I noticed stairs on the right leading to a second floor seating area.) The first floor had table seating and a raised tatami area. The menu offered options like Kyoto-style bento, tempura set meal, and eel rice bowl, each with a "premium" version. I ended up ordering the Kyoto-style bento. The photo of the bento is attached. The side dishes included pickles, cucumber in vinegar, simmered chicken, taro, bamboo shoots, dried radish, rolled omelette, sliced raw fish, and in the center was koya tofu and fuki. The soup had yuba, fish cake, and something green, with a surprisingly rich flavor. The rice was topped with shredded dried fish and sansho pepper. Each dish in the bento, especially the sweet and savory chicken, had a delicious texture. This bento captures the essence of Kyoto that someone like me, from the countryside, would imagine. The tempura and eel dishes are also priced similarly, so I look forward to trying them in the future.

On my way to work in the morning, I happened to pass by this restaurant. The area had a quaint Kyoto downtown atmosphere, quite different from Osaka, with a unique and calm ambiance. Although the restaurant was still empty early in the morning, it piqued my interest. When I mentioned it at work, we decided to visit for lunch. I ordered the Kyoto-style bento for 1050 yen, and my companion ordered the grilled eel on rice for the same price. The Kyoto-style bento included seasonal side dishes and sashimi, all delicately seasoned with Kyoto's light dashi flavor. The sashimi was fresh and sweet. The meal came with a delicious clear soup with shredded yuba and sansho pepper. The grilled eel on rice was also lightly seasoned and served with crushed sansho pepper, which paired perfectly with the shredded yuba. The restaurant, located in an old machiya building, had a great atmosphere, and we were very satisfied with our lunch. Such unique places can only be found in Kyoto. I saw that there were already reviews on Tabelog. The taste rating for the "Kyoto-style bento / 1050 yen" was an overall score of 4.

Around 2 o'clock in the afternoon, a group of five of us were heading towards the Japanese restaurant and cafe yusoshi+codomoshow in Gokomachi Gojo, but we were too hungry to wait and decided to enter Fujitei, a nearby Japanese restaurant. We were immediately guided to a spacious tatami room on the second floor, which made us feel like we were on a trip and we all relaxed. Two of us ordered the Kyoto-style bento box (with pumpkin, taro, rolled omelette, cucumber salad, sashimi, etc.) with miso soup for 1050 yen each, one ordered eel over rice with soup, and two ordered conger eel rice bowl with fish noodles. Each dish seemed to be carefully seasoned and we enjoyed the meal. While we have not used the cafe part of the restaurant, we imagine it would be a more calming environment compared to the restaurant for the older generation.
