I visited in November. Whenever I come to Nishiki Koji in Kyoto, I always stop by here. This is a shop that Pepper kindly told me about before. I think I heard about the chili oil kikurage last time. This time, I bought dried sansho pepper. I like the flavor and aroma of sansho pepper, so I chose a type with plenty of real sansho pepper. It cost 1400 yen, which is quite expensive. I enjoyed it little by little at home. It goes well with warm rice and even with ochazuke. I should have bought another pack. The first picture is of Kiyomizu Temple, and the second picture is near Sannenzaka, where the daytime hustle and bustle seemed like a lie.

At Chiba-san in Nishiki Market. It doesn't look great, but the taste is good so I ended up coming back. This time I bought dried shiobuki konbu with plum, bonito flakes, and sansho pepper. It's simple and I use it in ochazuke or sprinkle three pieces on onigiri with umeboshi. I'll enjoy it later.

Whenever I visit Nishiki Market, I always make sure to stop by here. I love chirimen sansho, and although I try various homemade versions at different restaurants, many of them are too refined for my taste. In contrast, I consistently love the Aoyama sansho here, and sometimes I even have it sent to me when there are special offers. I tried the new Aoyama sansho as well, and it was great. It's perfect for sprinkling on dishes like mixed rice.

Salt-cooked green peppercorns. A must-have in the fridge. It's easy to find soy sauce flavored ones everywhere, but salt-flavored ones are harder to come by. I buy them at Nishiki Market. I use them in various dishes, adding them during cooking or sprinkling them on top at the end. Green peppercorns 70g for 1000 yen.

Recently, whenever I come to Kyoto, I always visit the shops at Nishiki Market. They have classic flavors, and I heard you can also order them online, so I'm thinking of having them sent to me next time. The chirimen sansho costs 550 yen, and the fuki yose chazuke costs 500 yen. They go well with freshly cooked rice or as ochazuke, making them a great staple dish. After shopping at Nishiki Market, I took a stroll at Nanzen-ji Temple. The taxi driver I rode with later said, "I was surprised to see that Nanzen-ji Temple has more autumn leaves than Takao's Jingoji Temple, which is probably the earliest spot for autumn leaves in Kyoto." The autumn leaves are still just starting to change, and I didn't have time to visit Eikando Temple, but I was able to enjoy the early autumn leaves in Kyoto. All the photos, except for those of the market and shops, were taken at Nanzen-ji Temple.

Family of four went on a year-end trip to Kyoto. We decided to revisit this place because we had a great experience last time. Here is a summary of our order: - Spicy garlic kikurage mushrooms (400g for 1000 yen): A delicious sweet and spicy flavor with a punch of garlic. When paired with white rice, it becomes exquisite. We used it to make fried rice this time, and the spiciness mellowed out when cooked. It's a great deal at 100g for 300 yen, saving 200 yen. - Yuzu pepper chirimen (65g for 550 yen): Consists of dried small fish with yuzu pepper. The combination of yuzu and sansho pepper creates a refreshing and vibrant aroma. The chewy texture of the small fish adds to the experience. The sharp spiciness of the sansho pepper lingers, but when eaten with rice, it's perfect. It enhances the flavor of the rice multiple times. - Tea-pickled blowfish (100g for 500 yen): Another item we reordered. We made tea pickles with hot water. The refreshing aroma and umami of mushrooms spread in the mouth instantly upon tasting.

I went to Kyoto and bought souvenirs, one for myself and individual ones for my colleagues. I was unsure at first, but I decided to buy Chirimen Sansho at Nishiki Market. It's made with plenty of real Sansho peppers, giving it a delicious sweet and spicy flavor with a nice tingling sensation. It goes well with rice. Thank you for the meal!

Wife and I had a day trip date in Kyoto. Since it was just the two of us, we decided to shop at Nishiki Market, which we usually only visit right before closing. We bought some items like Fukiyose tea pickles with sansho pepper and kombu tsukudani. Be careful, as they are quite salty when eaten on their own. But when added to rice porridge, the saltiness is balanced out perfectly. The Fukiyose tea pickles were good, but the highlight was the Chirimen Sansho with green peppercorns. The flavor of the green peppercorns was rich and delicious. We also enjoyed the spicy shredded kikurage mushrooms in chili oil. Surprisingly, we were more obsessed with the kikurage than the sansho pepper we initially came for. Overall, everything had a shelf life of just over a month. Fukiyose Tea Pickles: ¥500 Chirimen Sansho with Green Peppercorns: ¥650 Chili Oil Kikurage: ¥300

At the Tsukudani shop in Nishiki Market, I always buy the "Spicy Kikurage Mushrooms" whenever I visit Kyoto. On this day, Nishiki Market was busier than usual with not only inbound tourists but also visitors from Europe and school trips. - A large purchase. (^^;) - Green Sansho Pepper (1000 yen) - I always buy this because I love Sansho pepper. It's delicious with rice or even added to simmered fish. - Burdock Tsukudani (300 yen) - A must-buy for burdock lovers. It's soft and easy to eat. - Flavored Lotus Root (380 yen) - A tasty combination of Sansho pepper, yuzu, and red chili pepper with a crunchy lotus root texture. - Tuna with Garlic and Kujo Negi (400 yen) - Tuna flakes with garlic and Kujo green onions, this is delicious. - Spicy Kikurage Mushrooms (300 yen) - I bought a lot again this time. The spicy kick of the chili oil and the texture of the kikurage mushrooms go well together, making it a great accompaniment to rice. They also offer online shopping, but buying at the store is more enjoyable.

I visited Kyoto at the end of May and everywhere was not crowded! You can walk through Nishiki Market without any stress. I didn't have any specific items in mind, just enjoying window shopping. I found a shop called Senami that sells creative tsukudani, which is essential for white rice or ochazuke. They offer reasonable prices and a variety of options, making it perfect for souvenirs. They also allow you to taste their products, and there are many unique items that you won't find elsewhere. Among them, my friend recommended the "Spicy Mushroom with Chili Oil" (300 yen including tax). After trying it, I immediately bought it! The spicy chili oil with garlic works well together, and you can also taste the flavor of sesame oil. The sweet and salty taste is just right. It's delicious on its own, but it's also perfect as a side dish for rice. It made me crave for white rice instead of brown rice or mixed grains!

I purchased my favorite sansho pepper at Nishiki Market. I bought both whole sansho peppers and an arranged version of sansho peppers. There were also dried sansho peppers mixed with whole ones, which I will try next time. In addition to sansho peppers, there were also various types of kombu. I share information about restaurants through my own Google reviews and posts.

I found a shop recommended by Mairevi-sama at Nishiki Market. I purchased it immediately. Shirimen sansho (dried small fish with mountain pepper) for 650 yen, and La-yu (chili oil) with wood ear mushrooms for 300 yen. The La-yu with wood ear mushrooms has a lingering spicy taste that is addictive. It tastes delicious even when placed on warm rice, and I think it would make a good snack with alcohol. Thank you for the recommendation. Since returning from the trip, I have been enjoying it little by little every day. I wish I had bought more. I bought "Chirimen sansho with Aoyama pepper" at this store in Nishiki Market. It's a must-have for those who love sansho pepper, as it contains whole sansho pepper seeds. The moderate saltiness increases your appetite for breakfast. I plan to try other items next time.

I remembered how irresistible the side dishes looked when I read the reviewer's post, so I decided to stop by Nishiki Market. There were many products lined up in front of the store, all looking delicious. This time, I chose the standard spicy kikurage mushrooms in chili oil, which I remembered from the reviewer's article, and also picked up some sansho pepper seaweed. The spicy kikurage mushrooms were pleasantly spicy with a good crunch, making them a great snack. As someone who loves sansho pepper, I felt that the sansho pepper seaweed could have had a bit more of that flavor. I would like to try something different next time.

The day after my business trip in Osaka, I visited Nishiki Market before heading back to Kyoto Station. While walking through Nishiki Market, I came across this Chirimen Sansho (dried fish with pepper) and tried a sample. The one with green sansho was perfect for my taste, but it seemed too strong for my child. In the end, I bought the green sansho one for my parents and the regular one for home. I had the regular one at home and it went really well with white rice.

A shop in Nishiki Market in Kyoto that specializes in tsukemono (pickled vegetables). I really like their "Spicy Kikurage Mushrooms with Chili Oil" and often visit when I'm in Kyoto. I've also bought some as souvenirs, but these are for my own consumption. They can also send purchases from the store, although there is a shipping fee. I bought 5 packs of "Spicy Kikurage Mushrooms with Chili Oil", "Green Sansho Pepper", 2 packs of "Flavored Hamaguri Clams", and "Spicy Chili Oil Bamboo Shoots", among others. - Green Sansho Pepper (500 yen) - It's great for cooking, but also delicious to eat on its own. - Flavored Hamaguri Clams (520 yen) - Softly cooked clams mixed with powdered sansho pepper. The sweet clam flavor with the added pepper goes well with rice. - Spicy Chili Oil Bamboo Shoots (350 yen) - A limited-time item. A bamboo shoot version of the Spicy Kikurage Mushrooms with Chili Oil. Also very tasty. - Spicy Kikurage Mushrooms with Chili Oil (300 yen) - It seems the price has gone up a bit. Kikurage mushrooms in sesame oil with a hint of spiciness and garlic. The perfect amount of spiciness makes it delicious and addictive. All of them were perfect as accompaniments to rice. While fancy meals are nice, there's something comforting about having a simple meal with delicious rice, pickles, and tsukemono.

I bought the famous Kyoto specialty "chirimen sansho" from the Nishiki Market shopping street in Kyoto, at the store "Kyokonbu Chinami". The chirimen-jako here is mainly selected from finely ground ones from Kyushu, with a moderate seasoning that is not too sweet or too spicy, and finished to be moist and fluffy. I tried a sample and thought, "I want to eat it on hot rice! I want to mix it with rice and make onigiri!" so I bought it. It was indeed perfect as a rice accompaniment. Thank you for the meal.
