On the second night of our family trip to Kyoto, we visited Sakuragawa for dinner. We had made a reservation for 6:00 PM, but we arrived at 5:30 PM because we were very hungry. By 7:00 PM, the restaurant was fully booked. We started with a sashimi platter, followed by eggplant dishes and sweetfish nanban-zuke. We were so hungry that we finished the dishes in just 3 minutes. The chef was handling everything alone, so the dishes were served a bit slowly. We waited, waited, waited, and finished everything. It was a bit of a struggle with the hungry kids, but it was good to let them experience authentic Kyoto cuisine. They wanted to try the hot pot, and I tried it for the first time too. The refined broth and the aroma of shiitake mushrooms were amazing. Not a drop of soup was left at the end. If dining with hungry kids, I would recommend having some soba or warabi mochi first. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

For lunch, I had to choose from 3 menu options. Although I was tempted by the tempura rice bowl, I made the right choice with the assorted obanzai set meal. It includes 5 dishes, including salads and fried dishes, allowing you to enjoy refined Kyoto-style obanzai. The rapeseed flower with sesame dressing was incredibly delicious. The fried taro was also great! The one mouthful of draft beer was just the right amount and it was fantastic! The restaurant is located on the 2nd floor of a building and may be a bit hard to find, but it could be a hidden gem. There is no information on the website, but you can make a lunch reservation by calling. It was a Saturday, but due to the rain, there were no other customers at 12 o'clock, and by 1 o'clock when I left, it was almost full. If you go early, you might be able to walk in. I visited for a late lunch. There was a ramp for strollers, and the entrance step was not too much of an issue. I was able to park my stroller next to the table, which was very helpful. The dishes were carefully prepared, and I could appreciate the craftsmanship that went into them. The food was delicious, and I finished it in no time! The restaurant seems lovely for dinner as well.

I went to a reasonably priced Japanese restaurant to satisfy my craving for Japanese food. I visited the sister restaurant of Japanese Cuisine Sakuragawa. They offered a lunch set with five kinds of obanzai dishes for around 1700 yen. Each dish was delicious and well-prepared. The set also came with rice, miso soup, and seaweed tsukudani. It's nice to dine out for something other than curry once in a while. This weekend, I'm heading to Okinawa to try out various local dishes.

There is a restaurant on the 2nd floor of a building on Kiyamachi Street. The interior is simple with no extravagant decorations, and the menu consists of appetizers, hot dishes, grilled dishes, fried dishes, and rice, totaling 25 items. On this visit, we ordered a sashimi platter, fried oysters with ponzu sauce, and chicken thigh marinated in miso. The appetizer was deep-fried moroko fish, which was seasoned with curry powder to remove any fishy taste, and it went perfectly with a glass of sake. The sashimi platter included sea bream, tuna, and marinated mackerel, all of which were delicious. The fried oysters were crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, a professional touch that we couldn't replicate at home. The chicken thigh was grilled to perfection, with a crispy skin and tender meat. The owner, who seemed busy but friendly, gladly shared cooking tips and techniques. Overall, it was a low-key yet authentic Japanese dining experience.

All the dishes I received were delicious. The miso soup in a small pot was particularly impressive. The atmosphere of the restaurant was calm and pleasant. The staff explained everything to me politely, and I had a great time.

It was a shame that the tempura had cooled down, but the sashimi, simmered dishes, salad, everything was delicious! I will definitely come back again.

Cost-effective and delicious obanzai restaurant. The owner runs the place alone, so the atmosphere is relaxed but efficient. You can watch the dishes being prepared at the counter, which is enjoyable. The pork cutlet with potato sauce was not really to my taste, but it was tender and tasty, and my companion loved it. I personally enjoyed everything else, it was all delicious! The portions are generally small, but with two people, you can try a variety of dishes. The sizes are such that even one person could order at least three dishes. Delicate and carefully prepared Japanese dishes with subtle flavors are served here. Particularly impressive were the boiled spring cabbage and the sweet and sour sauce on the fried fish. A great restaurant!

Whitebait from Thailand. It is said to be in season now as it is preparing to spawn in the spring. A platter of sashimi including first bonito, Thai, itoyori, and spotted eagle ray. Fried morokono. Spring cabbage ohitashi. Grilled mushrooms. Oil-cooked escolar. We ordered the chef's choice course, and they served the dishes considering our eating pace. Affordable and a good deal.

Michelin's "Japanese Cuisine Sakuragawa" sister store, where you can easily enjoy the taste of the famous restaurant. I visited for lunch with someone I have been working with for many years. I ordered the assorted obanzai set meal. As expected, this restaurant created by Sakuragawa-san is amazing. Each obanzai dish was carefully prepared with gentle seasoning, and I thoroughly enjoyed them. It's hard to believe that such high-quality dishes are offered at such affordable prices. In a time when many restaurants serve dishes that don't require much effort for 1000 or 1500 yen, the craftsmanship at this restaurant for this price is truly impressive. Keep up the good work, and I will definitely visit again when I go to Kyoto next time.

I was looking for a Japanese restaurant near the city hall and stumbled upon this place. It goes by the name "Obanzai" and offers a variety of seasonal Japanese dishes that can be ordered individually. Each dish was meticulously prepared and delicious. I went with a close friend, so we shared each dish and were able to try about ten different ones. While the selection of sake wasn't extensive, there were enough options to choose from. I definitely want to go back again.

The atmosphere of the restaurant seemed not very child-friendly, but when I called they said it was okay to bring kids. We visited with our children and they kindly served miso soup and rice for them as a service, which we appreciated!
