There are more and more fried chicken restaurants popping up around here. They are located on the road south of the Meishin Expressway. It used to be a izakaya before. The entrance is open, but it seems like they just took over the previous place. I chose the assorted bento box from the many menu options. It includes 1 piece of chicken tempura, 2 pieces of fried chicken, and 2 pieces of sweet and spicy fried chicken. What's interesting is that you can get a 100 yen discount if you choose to have 1 less piece of fried chicken. They also have daily bento boxes displayed outside for 550 yen. When I ordered, I was given the number 44. Not a great number, but most orders seem to be for pickup as customers come and go. I waited for over 10 minutes. When I opened the bento box, it was overflowing with food, especially the chicken tempura. The fried chicken pieces were around 40 grams each, but the tempura seemed to be double that amount. The rice wasn't particularly hot, despite the claim of using rice from a farm in Awaji Island. The taste was just okay, not much different from a typical cheap bento box. Oh, there's some shredded pickled radish included. The portion size is quite generous even for a regular size. The fried chicken had a crispy coating, probably made with cornstarch or baking powder. The meat was tender and the soy sauce flavor was strong. The sweet and spicy fried chicken had a sweet and spicy sauce, which might be a better choice as a side dish with rice. The chicken tempura was made with egg white batter and breast meat, crispy and snack-like. The ponzu sauce provided is probably meant for this. Overall, the bento box loses points for the rice quality. It might be better to order items individually.
