From Hankyu Kawaramachi Station, it takes a little over 10 minutes, and from Keihan Gion Shijo Station, it takes just under 10 minutes. This restaurant is located near Kennin-ji Temple, close to Yasaka Shrine, making it a perfect spot to satisfy your hunger after sightseeing in Kyoto. The exterior has a charming Kyoto-style look, and inside, there are about 7 counter seats and 3 tables for 4 people each in the tatami area, which can be customized based on the number of guests. When we visited on a Saturday evening, the tatami area was already occupied by a group, and soon after, regular customers started coming in, indicating that the restaurant is quite popular. Although I don't remember the exact prices from our visit, ordering beer (Kirin, medium bottle), highball, one drink, and two dishes for two people cost around 2500 yen per person, which is quite affordable. Not only is it affordable, but the quality of the food is also very high. The complimentary dish included marinated ikura with yam, which had a mild acidity and was very tasty. We also ordered the following dishes ourselves:
- Tempura of cloud ear fungus
During winter in Kyoto, various restaurants offer cloud ear fungus dishes. Despite the elegant appearance of this small restaurant, the dish was surprisingly generous, with plenty of other ingredients like eggplant and shishito peppers accompanying the cloud ear fungus. There were about 5 pieces of cloud ear fungus, making it a substantial dish.
- Simmered yellowtail with daikon in katsuobushi broth
Intrigued by the unique combination, we decided to try this dish, and it was delicious. The yellowtail and daikon absorbed the flavors of the katsuobushi broth, resulting in a tender and flavorful texture. The broth was rich and full of umami, and we finished it all.
If you're looking for a cozy atmosphere, this restaurant is suitable for families, solo diners, couples, or friends. It's easy to visit and highly recommended for those exploring Kyoto.
