I felt the charm of "Tandoori & Curry aBu", a authentic North Indian restaurant that brings a new breeze to the Indian curry and Indian cuisine scene in Kyoto. Previously, they were subleasing from "Itameshi Oliva" and have now opened their own store in the Gosho Nishi area, where Japanese owner and Indian chef offer a casual dining experience with curry, tandoori dishes, and alcohol. They serve lunch from Monday to Thursday, with curry as the main dish. On Fridays, they offer both lunch and dinner, and on Saturdays, only dinner is available, featuring not only curry but also tandoori dishes and alcohol courses to enjoy the essence of Indian cuisine. For lunch, you can choose from 3 types of curry to have with plain naan and mini rice. I ordered the Rajma Aloo (red kidney beans and potatoes) and the recommended Keema (minced meat) for 1100 yen including tax, and as I ate, I could taste the rich flavors with a deep umami taste of meat and vegetables, well-balanced spices without being too sharp, showcasing the skillful and elaborate cooking. The quality of the plain naan was also impressive, and the fact that it comes with mini rice was appreciated. Overall, while there wasn't a surprising impact, the satisfaction level was quite high, and the quality of the space was also memorable, not typical of an Indian restaurant. The gentle and pleasant male owner I spoke to and glimpses of the Indian chef through the curtain, as well as the positive impression of a young male staff member, all left a good impression. The first floor has a counter, and if you go upstairs, you will find a spacious table area. For lunch, in addition to curry, options such as Chicken Tikka, Tandoori Chicken, Lassi, and Chai are also available. For dinner, along with curry, tandoori dishes and alcohol course dishes are also prepared. I felt the potential and ability to raise the level of Indian cuisine and curry in Kyoto this time. Head to this authentic new restaurant where you can experience the cuisine created by a Japanese owner and an experienced Indian chef in a casual setting. Check their Instagram for the latest information. I hope that many people will visit this place.
