Today, I visited a sweets shop that opened inside the grounds of Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine.
Fushimi Inari Soratsuki Tsukiji and Kamakura, known for their strawberry daifuku, seems to have opened a new store called "Soratsuki" here. In addition to the famous strawberry daifuku, they also sell smoothies and dango made with strawberries. The strawberry sweets range from 300 to 800 yen each, making them suitable for eating on the go. They also had giant senbei the size of a cushion for sale, which seemed to be a trendy, Instagrammable product.
This time, I purchased the famous "strawberry daifuku."
Strawberry Daifuku: A strawberry sits on top of a daifuku with a cut in the middle. You can choose from fillings like "smooth red bean paste," "chunky red bean paste," and "custard," and this time I went with the standard "smooth red bean paste" type. It's a size that can be eaten in 2-3 bites. The outer mochi has a chewy texture that is enjoyable. The slight acidity of the strawberry, sweetness of the filling, and the mochi all come together to create a delightful sweet treat.
