I had a New Year's kaiseki meal at Kotohogimatsu. Everything was delicious, but I was especially surprised by the taste of the Meoka tofu, yuba, nama-fu dengaku, and roasted duck breast. The chilled abalone with jelly was also delicious with a firm jelly texture. The grilled silver cod in Saikyo miso was perfect for me as a fan of Saikyo miso dishes. The restaurant interior was lovely, and the private rooms were warm with underfloor heating. It was a truly luxurious experience from start to finish. My boyfriend used to frequent the main branch in Fukuoka and found the flavors nostalgic.

I wanted to go to a place but it was fully booked, so I made a reservation here. After enjoying the autumn leaves light-up at Eikando, we moved by train to this restaurant. I didn't know how to call the staff when we arrived, so I waited at the entrance until they noticed me. It was a busy Saturday, so I understood. This time, my friend wanted to eat Kumiage Yuba, so we decided to go for a slightly luxurious course.
[Ordered Items]
- Plum Blossom Zen "Extreme" Hot Pot Kumiage Yuba 5900 yen x 2
- Course Contents: Meio Tofu / Yuba Nabe / Ohitashi / Chawanmushi / Sashimi Crab Shumai / Oshinogi / Kumiage Yuba / Namafu Dango Yudofu Age / Yuba Suimono / Rice Dish / Tsukemono / Dessert Wagyu Lava Grill / Fish Saikyo Yaki (choose one) / Draft Beer (medium) 770 yen / Daidai Sake 770 yen / Kokuryu Junmai Ginjo (Fukui) 1 cup 1200 yen
I learned how to eat the Kumiage Yuba from the staff and tried it myself. At first, I struggled a bit but gradually got better. I enjoyed trying different variations with soy sauce, yuzu paste, and salt. The Wagyu Lava Grill and Fish Saikyo Yaki were shared with my friend and both were delicious. The dessert was customizable, and I chose soy milk ice cream with black sugar. It was as delicious as I imagined. The staff seemed a bit unfriendly, which was surprising considering the high prices, but the food was tasty. Thank you for the meal!

Located in the basement of the West 18 Building, a 5-minute walk from Hankyu Karasuma Station and Subway Shijo Station Exit 21, and a 3-minute walk from Subway Karasuma Oike Station Exit 5. This restaurant offers creative kaiseki cuisine that combines traditional Japanese ingredients such as yuba and tofu with seasonal ingredients. They offer private rooms, table seating, wheelchair accessibility, and sunken kotatsu seating. During my visit, I enjoyed the Ume no Hana Zen course (starting from ¥4,500). For hot pot dishes (serving 2 or more), you can choose from options like Yudofu (¥4,500) or Wagyu Shabu Shabu (¥6,500). Each dish is delicately seasoned and delicious, and the calm atmosphere allows for a relaxing dining experience. Highly recommended.

On our first wedding anniversary, we visited this restaurant because I am on a diet and they serve tofu kaiseki meals. We ordered the Fumaito (3400 yen, tax included) for two people and two Zero Ume Rock (550 yen) drinks. Each dish was carefully prepared. My favorite was the fried tofu dish. The beef hot pot and sashimi were also delicious. Even though I didn't mention it in advance, when I said I couldn't eat shrimp, squid, or octopus, they accommodated my request. The female staff who served us was very friendly. We were able to eat in a private room and had a great time. It was a good decision to come here. For smokers, there is a smoking room available. The prices are reasonable and the cost performance is very good.

I visited the restaurant in September 2019 for lunch. I ordered the Ume no Hana lunch set for 2150 yen including tax. It is only available on weekdays. I also added the Matsutake mushroom steamed in a pot for an additional 500 yen. The atmosphere of the restaurant was calm. The food was healthy and delicious. However, it was a bit difficult to get the attention of the staff for things like refilling tea. I received a dessert as a birthday treat. I was told that if taken to go, it would be a cake, but it needs to be refrigerated, so I would appreciate it if it could be something that doesn't require refrigeration.

Located near Karasuma Oike, my mother remembered seeing this restaurant and we decided to have lunch here today. It's my first time here. The colorful lunch set costs 2600 yen, a little luxurious. It's healthy and doesn't require much effort to chew. We laughed as we enjoyed our meal. The spacious room felt like a quiet private space. This is probably the only place where you don't have to take off your shoes. The hot dishes were warm, and the cold dishes were cold. The lotus root cake had a nice texture and a delicious flavor. I might get tired of tofu eventually, but for now, I'm satisfied with this relaxing and healthy meal.

I have visited other branches several times in the past, but this was my first time at the Kyoto branch. I really love Umenohana! I always make sure to reserve a private room - the private rooms here are the best! And I always order the "Umenohana" kaiseki course. It includes a variety of dishes and everything is delicious! From nama-fu dengaku, sashimi, Meika tofu, lotus root manju, tofu shumai, yuba simmered dish, chawanmushi, okowa, yuba tempura, yuba gratin, to dessert, there are 15 items in the course. Each dish is amazing, but my favorites are nama-fu dengaku, Meika tofu, and lotus root manju. The nama-fu dengaku is chewy and I love it! I always want seconds of it. The Meika tofu is creamy and rich in flavor, I love it even more! The lotus root manju has a gentle taste. The pacing of the course is perfect, and even though it's a private room, it feels like they are watching you because the service is so great. I always end up feeling full! I would love to eat this course every day. It's a tofu lover's dream. The private room is so cozy that I ended up staying until the end of lunchtime. I love Meika tofu so much that I bought some to take home. I think they also sell it in the department store basement. I will definitely visit Umenohana again!

I decided to treat my special lady to a luxurious lunch date, so I made a reservation at a traditional Japanese restaurant in Kyoto, near Karasuma. When we arrived, the atmosphere of the Kyoto Karasuma branch was truly unique. We were escorted to a private room with a sunken hearth, giving it a tea house-like feel that delighted both my partner and me. The restaurant was bustling with chatter from other guests, but the kitchen noises were muted, allowing us to enjoy each other's company without distractions. As for the menu, we enjoyed dishes like soy milk sesame tofu, tofu salad with crispy yuba, steamed egg custard with mochi, lotus root in shiitake sauce, and more. The lunch set also included a choice of rice dish and a delightful dessert of soy milk ice cream with kinako and kuromitsu. In addition, we ordered the summer oden and roast beef salad, which was generously topped with tender slices of roast beef. While the prices are not on par with casual dining, the experience of a refined lunch like this is worth it every once in a while. Each branch of the restaurant has its own unique ambiance, so I recommend visiting the Karasuma branch in Kyoto for a special dining experience.

I was taken to lunch during my trip to Kyoto. It was my first time having a tofu kaiseki meal. The person who guided us seemed to be in charge and greeted us. It felt like a ryokan. I enjoyed the tofu dishes. I usually eat meat, so I don't often go for this healthy route, but I was able to see a new world of tofu cuisine. I particularly liked the tofu dengaku. It was incredibly soft and chewy, and delicious. I might even like it more than regular dango. The yomogi dengaku had a wonderful aroma. The yomogi flavor spread throughout my mouth. The tofu shumai was also delicious. Finally, I had takikomi gohan and miso soup, and then waited for dessert. I could change it to the seasonal parfait for an additional 300 yen, so I did. Strawberry matcha parfait!! It served as the mochi. I prefer this mochi-like texture over regular mochi! The sakura ice cream was refreshing and perfect for finishing the meal. Overall, the dishes were healthy and the portions were small, but I was able to enjoy a variety of tofu dishes. It's important to try different dishes once in a while. Thank you for the meal!

I love the plum blossoms (*≧∀≦*). I came to Kyoto just to have lunch here. The private room with two tables was a bit unfamiliar, but the Japanese-style gratin served for lunch was truly delicious. I hope they will sell it too!

The plum blossom dishes such as Yuba, Tofu Shumai, and Tofu Dengaku are all delicious, and the private room here is very calming. I visited with my family for lunch, but it is also a wonderful place for meetings or entertaining guests. There is a Starbucks on the floor above Ume no Hana, and it is located next to Rokkakudo, making it a great recommendation for sightseeing in Kyoto.
