I stopped by this second restaurant while hopping around a few places. This shop run by an elderly couple has a cozy atmosphere that makes you want to stay longer. Honestly, the sushi is not that amazing, but considering the price, it's satisfying enough.

Visited on May 30, 2020. Ordered without a reservation was the "Jomori Assortment" for 3100 yen including tax, 8 pieces, both of which were delicious. Especially the sea urchin! It melted the moment it entered my mouth. The tuna and eel were also very tasty. Thank you for the meal.

I met up with a couple of friends in the evening in Shijo Kawaramachi in Kyoto and visited this recommended sushi restaurant. It's a small place but they serve non-conveyor belt sushi which was a nice change. We ordered the assorted nigiri set and added some extra items. The nigiri was quite large so we ended up feeling full. The Thai mackerel simmered dish was also delicious with a gentle flavor. It was a satisfying meal overall. I'm glad my friends brought me here as I might have been hesitant to try it on my own. The restaurant started filling up with customers, including foreigners, before 7 pm. After dinner, we also went to see the light-up at Toji Temple, making it a fun night in Kyoto.

I went alone around 9:30 in the evening on a regular weekday. There were already 3 customers at the counter and 3 at the table. The chef and his wife were in charge of cooking and serving drinks. I ordered a sushi assortment for 1900 yen and two servings of sake. They also served a complimentary miso soup. The assortment included tuna, squid, yellowtail, sea bream, egg, shrimp, octopus, and conger eel. The rice had a slightly Kyoto-style flavor with a hint of sweetness. The sushi had a generous amount of rice, and all the toppings were delicious. The miso soup with tofu and shiso was okay. Two more customers arrived before I left. They seemed like regulars, but the atmosphere was welcoming. The bill came to 3100 yen before tax. I plan to order some appetizers next time.

There is a sushi restaurant located at the corner just one block up from Shijo Koya-cho. It has a cozy atmosphere and stays open late, making it easy to stop by for a meal or drinks on your way home. The sashimi is delicious, just as you would expect from a sushi restaurant!

Open until late, this sushi restaurant is perfect for a quick bite to eat. They are open until 1 am, so you can stop by after midnight for a satisfying end-of-the-night meal. Located on a side street off Kawaramachi Street, past "Taisushi" and "Shiruyuki" and just before the bridge over Takase River. The interior is cozy and bright, with a small counter where you can sit. I ordered the chef's choice, which included 10 pieces of nigiri sushi. The tuna and egg sushi were particularly delicious. The sushi rice was larger than average, typical of Kyoto-style sushi. After enjoying my meal, I had a comforting red miso soup. The chef was friendly and had a nice smile. Overall, it was a great dining experience at this homely and affordable sushi restaurant in the area.

Just up the street from Shijo Nishi-Koyamacho. Lately, there are a lot of touts outside the restaurants trying to attract customers. In this area, young guys will approach you quite aggressively... Amidst this, there is an old-fashioned sushi restaurant run by a master and his mother. And apparently, they are open every day of the year. It's great that they are open late into the night. After having a few drinks at a nearby acquaintance's place, I felt a bit hungry so I decided to visit this place. I had heard about it before, but this was my first time. You can enjoy some solid sushi here. The master is quick and has a friendly demeanor, and you can see the mother quietly supporting him from behind the counter. I felt good even before eating. The counter seems to be made of a single piece of wood, and it is spotless! They polish it every day, I heard. Anyway, I felt good. They had some miso soup, so I had a cup to finish off the sushi. My companion stole some of it, so I had to order another cup! Haha. It's not a big place, but it's perfect for a casual visit. Even after having 4 cups of sake and eating quite a bit, it didn't cost us more than 10,000 yen for two people. It's a wallet-friendly place!! Items we had: salmon roe, egg, ark shell, sayori (halfbeak), plum shiso roll, flounder, herring roe... 4 cups of sake and 2 cups of miso soup.

I visited on a regular night. A quiet sushi restaurant in the midst of a lively area. I felt reassured after looking at the menu outside and entered the restaurant, taking a seat at the counter. It seemed like the chef and his mother were running the place. I ordered the omakase sushi set (2,700 yen), cold sake (800 yen), and added horse mackerel (250 yen) and mackerel (200 yen). The omakase sushi set included 8 kinds: kanpachi, sea bream, tuna, chicken gizzard, sea urchin, salmon roe, shrimp, and eel. The rice had a slightly sweet Kansai-style taste. The kanpachi had a good texture, and the eel was soft and well-seasoned. Overall, the quality was decent, except for the mackerel which was a bit too fishy. Considering the location, the quality of the ingredients, and the price, the cost-performance ratio is good. The a la carte menu is also reasonably priced, but I recommend starting with an affordable set.

I went again today! The atmosphere is really nice! There are regular customers, but it doesn't feel like they only care about them! The master and his wife are very friendly, the sushi is delicious, and it's a place I want to go to every day. It's just the best.

Maruman is a cozy little sushi restaurant located up the hill from Shijo-Kiya-machi. Despite its traditional appearance, the atmosphere inside is welcoming and unpretentious. With a counter seating for six and a couple of tables, the place is run by a friendly mother-son duo. The service is efficient and warm, making even first-timers feel at ease. The menu may not be extensive, but each item is made with fresh ingredients and careful preparation. From uni to ikura to akagai, the sushi here is top-notch. Prices range from around 200 to 500 yen per piece, with sashimi and other dishes priced between 600 to 1000 yen. Open until 1 am, this is a rare find in the area for high-quality sushi late at night. Be sure to check it out for your second round or a satisfying sushi finale.

In the midst of the hustle and bustle of Kiya-machi, there is a cozy atmosphere like a izakaya serving home-cooked meals once you pass through the noren curtain. It's a small restaurant with about 8 seats at the counter and 2 tables. I always sit at the counter and enjoy the sushi that is carefully made for me. I haven't tried many other items on the menu, so I can't comment on them, but when it comes to sushi, it's a great place to eat calmly and enjoy. I always ask for sushi rolls as a souvenir, and they are really delicious! They are filled with plenty of ingredients and will make you feel full. It's a sushi restaurant that gives off a homely vibe.

The sizes of each piece of sushi are large, especially the fatty tuna and sea urchin which are consistently delicious. The fatty tuna is always delicious, and I am surprised at how they can consistently provide such high-quality fish. Even though each ingredient should be unique every time, the quality is always stable, which is amazing. The soy sauce itself is seasoned, so the taste of soy sauce and eel seasoning may be a matter of personal preference. Recently, it seems to be popular with foreigners as well. Overall, I think this is a great restaurant for those who value quantity. It is a nice atmosphere run by an elderly couple.
