It was my first time trying game meat dishes, but they were all delicious! It was exciting to choose from the menu for the first time. I was able to decide while consulting about the characteristics of the meat and which ones are easy to eat for first-time game eaters. I received kind explanations about the features as well. It was also nice that they provided portions that could be divided evenly for the three of us who visited.

I went to eat game meat! It was incredibly delicious... The room was stylish with green walls! I could eat wild boar, deer, veal, duck, and more! Personally, I found the deer to be delicious, with no strong taste, it was really tasty! I also had potato salad and more - I want to go again! It was so delicious!

Pre-dinner at Illifune! We got off at Jingu Marutamachi Station and headed to Illifune, located southwest of Karasuma Marutamachi, just a short walk west of Karasuma Street. The restaurant has table seating in the front and counter seating in the back. The menu features a collaboration of dishes with a taste of Oita Prefecture and game meat. We tried fried nagaimo with spices, anchovy cabbage, white peach topped with prosciutto, egg and tomato ajillo, the resurrected chicken rice croquette, chicken tempura Illifune style, and wild boar and zucchini risotto. The dishes were delicious, especially the chicken rice croquette with a sweet and rich flavor, and the addictive taste of the ajillo. The chicken tempura was decent. The wild boar and zucchini risotto we had as a finale was bursting with the essence of wild boar fat in the risotto. It definitely called for a glass of red wine. This time we went light on the main dishes, so we're looking forward to coming back for a full-on experience next time!

Due to the nature of my work, I often end up having late-night meals and struggle to find a place to eat. The area around Gosho-minami is a quiet residential area, so many restaurants close early. Going all the way to Sanjo or Shijo is a hassle, so I was wandering around looking for a nearby place to eat when I stumbled upon a restaurant that stays open until 3 am. I was drawn in by its simple, stylish, and modern exterior. It's a smoking-friendly place with a large 8-seater table and a counter that extends to the back. I started off with a toast with an Ebisu beer at the counter. The funky background music made me like the place even more. - Sauteed calf tongue - Chicken liver pate (with bread) - Green salad - Game meat mapo tofu - Pasta with shirasu (baby sardines) I don't have much experience with game meat, and there were options like deer and boar on the menu, but I played it safe with my order. However, everything was delicious. The sauteed tongue was incredibly tender and flavorful. The green salad, sprinkled with powdered cheese, had a complex flavor with hidden ingredients like scallops and myoga, which was a pleasant surprise. The pasta with shirasu was good, but I think it could have used more garlic. The game meat mapo tofu was rich in meaty flavor and had a nice punch to it. I almost felt like having rice with it (laughs). A group of customers arrived, and the master, who was handling everything from food to drinks by himself, seemed busy but still greeted us with a smile when we placed our order. When we left, he saw us off outside and we chatted a bit. Turns out, the master is from Oita. That explains the many dishes and drinks featuring ingredients from Oita. I'll definitely visit again and challenge myself with deer meat next time!

Tonight's dinner was a bit late, and I was debating where to go. I didn't feel like going out to the Shijo area now. Ah! I'll go back to "ilifune," a restaurant that stays open late, which I visited recently! So, I decided to revisit relatively early. The restaurant is located in the Marutamachi area of Kawaramachi. When I entered the restaurant, the owner warmly welcomed me. Tonight, I sat at the counter. The owner is from Oita Prefecture, and the menu features dishes inspired by local cuisine. Tonight, I had the "White: Tolloy Pinot Grigio 2015/Italy" to drink. The dishes I had included: - Potato salad as an appetizer - Carpaccio of fresh fish - Prosciutto and white asparagus - Oita's chicken tempura - Veal tongue - Clams cooked in white wine - Chicken rice croquette I also had the following wines: - White: Tolloy Pinot Grigio 2015/Italy - Rosé sparkling wine: Mastio della Loggia Gran Cuvée Brut Rosé/Italy - White sparkling wine: Donelli Pinot Chardonnay Spumante/Italy The restaurant is open until 3 am, so even if you come late, you can relax and enjoy your time. I had a pleasant evening chatting with the owner. It's a convenient restaurant in the Gion area. I have a feeling I'll be revisiting soon. (laughs)

I visited a restaurant called "ilifune" in the southwest side of Marutamachi-Kuratacho (Gosho Minami area) that I had been curious about. Tonight, three of us staff members used it for drinking. The street one block west of Kawaramachi is very quiet, and indeed, as the catchphrase of the store says, "Is this the place?" The exterior is white with a nice accent of dark blue on the signboard. The interior, one step down, has a calm atmosphere with white, moss green, and warm-colored pendant lighting, which leaves a good impression. There are counter seats and two tables (for four people each), but the high ceiling makes it feel surprisingly spacious. First, I look at the menu. The owner seems to be from Kunisaki Town, Oita Prefecture, and there are many Oita local dishes, game meat, black wagyu, and snacks, which is fun. First, I toast with an easy-to-drink white wine chosen by the owner, a bottle of white wine "Bellanova Trebbiano d'Abruzzo 2015/Italy." Here is what we had tonight: Appetizer: "Potato salad" with a crispy texture and a good peppery taste that goes well with alcohol. Today's carpaccio (sea bream) with a pleasant acidity that complements the wine. Assorted raw ham with prosciutto, salami, and roast pork, served with grissini, which is delicious. Oita's soul food "Umanii," a sweet version of Chikuzen-ni with taro, carrots, konjac, shiitake mushrooms, and chicken. Chicken liver pate with baguette tower presentation, rich and creamy. Fried sweet potatoes, crispy and sweet, perfect for snacking. Chicken tempura from Oita with mustard, a new spicy twist with a curry-like flavor. Oita Kunisaki Town black wagyu roast and misji steak, both tender and flavorful. We also had a few wines to pair with the food. There are still many dishes I want to try, so I will definitely be back! The food, atmosphere, and the impression of the owner are all great, and we ended up enjoying three bottles of wine between the two of us. This bar is very reasonably priced and enjoyable. The restaurant is open until 3 am, which is convenient for me, as I tend to start late. I found a great restaurant!

I felt like having Italian food, so my girlfriend and I stumbled upon a late-night Italian restaurant. It was tucked away in an alley, and had a chic atmosphere. The friendly owner led us inside to a cozy space with a small counter. We ordered some beer to start, and then tried the dishes. The octopus was the worst - not fresh and had a slimy texture. Overall, the food was just okay. The only issue was that it was cold inside, I wish they had turned up the heating a bit more.
