I visited a restaurant called "ilifune" in the southwest side of Marutamachi-Kuratacho (Gosho Minami area) that I had been curious about. Tonight, three of us staff members used it for drinking. The street one block west of Kawaramachi is very quiet, and indeed, as the catchphrase of the store says, "Is this the place?" The exterior is white with a nice accent of dark blue on the signboard. The interior, one step down, has a calm atmosphere with white, moss green, and warm-colored pendant lighting, which leaves a good impression. There are counter seats and two tables (for four people each), but the high ceiling makes it feel surprisingly spacious. First, I look at the menu. The owner seems to be from Kunisaki Town, Oita Prefecture, and there are many Oita local dishes, game meat, black wagyu, and snacks, which is fun. First, I toast with an easy-to-drink white wine chosen by the owner, a bottle of white wine "Bellanova Trebbiano d'Abruzzo 2015/Italy." Here is what we had tonight: Appetizer: "Potato salad" with a crispy texture and a good peppery taste that goes well with alcohol. Today's carpaccio (sea bream) with a pleasant acidity that complements the wine. Assorted raw ham with prosciutto, salami, and roast pork, served with grissini, which is delicious. Oita's soul food "Umanii," a sweet version of Chikuzen-ni with taro, carrots, konjac, shiitake mushrooms, and chicken. Chicken liver pate with baguette tower presentation, rich and creamy. Fried sweet potatoes, crispy and sweet, perfect for snacking. Chicken tempura from Oita with mustard, a new spicy twist with a curry-like flavor. Oita Kunisaki Town black wagyu roast and misji steak, both tender and flavorful. We also had a few wines to pair with the food. There are still many dishes I want to try, so I will definitely be back! The food, atmosphere, and the impression of the owner are all great, and we ended up enjoying three bottles of wine between the two of us. This bar is very reasonably priced and enjoyable. The restaurant is open until 3 am, which is convenient for me, as I tend to start late. I found a great restaurant!
