Visited a chicken cuisine restaurant in Uzumasa Shimei in December 2015. I had heard about it from a gourmet senior. It's about a 5-10 minute walk from the Arashiyama-guchi subway station. It's relatively easy to access by subway. The interior has 9 counter seats and a few table seats. There is a sign at the counter seats that says "No mobile phones during meals, strong smells, purple smoke, and children are not allowed at the counter seats." I strongly agree with that. The menu includes sashimi, grilled dishes, side dishes, and hot pot dishes, covering a wide range of chicken dishes. I ordered the following: - Sashimi assortment (??? yen) - Yakitori and motsu-yaki (8 pieces in total) (liver, gizzard, heart, skin, tail, thigh, tsukune, and intestines) - Karaage (700 yen) - Motsu-nikomi (350 yen) - Otoshi (??? yen) I also had 3 glasses of draft beer, totaling just over 8000 yen. So, I think the sashimi assortment is around 2000 yen (based on the calculation of otoshi around 300 yen, and skewers around 250-300 yen each). Since I was dining alone, I asked for a single serving of the sashimi assortment. It included chicken breast, gizzard, intestines, heart, and liver. The liver was tender and fresh, and delicious! The gizzard was cut into small dice-like pieces. It was also of high quality, but I wish the pieces were larger for a more crunchy texture. I had 8 pieces of grilled dishes, with the meat and offal served separately. It was lovely attention to detail. There were some rare parts that I had never heard of, and everything was delicious. The plain yakitori was very tender and tasty. Was it because it was a young chicken? And the specialty chicken karaage. There were two large pieces. They were fried to a golden color. When you bite into it, the chicken fat oozes out. The meat was tender and delicious. This is definitely a must-order dish. The prices are not cheap, but you can enjoy reliable chicken dishes here. It might be more enjoyable to order a variety of dishes with a group of 4 people to keep the price per person down and have a wider range of dishes to try. Personally, I wish there were more choices of sake. But I think it's a great restaurant.
