The attention to detail by the head chef, the kindness of the hostess, and the cuteness of the waiter made for a fun and delicious evening! The dishes were beautifully presented on plates repaired with kintsugi, each one meticulously crafted with care and attention to detail. The head chef didn't go on about it, just said it was delicious and that was enough. The counter made from a rare single slab of wood added to the chef's unique creations and the hostess's kindness in every dish. It was amazing! *Watching the chef cook live, eating, chatting, and being moved made for a busy but wonderful experience... Not all dishes are shown in the photos, haha.

On this day, I had the "Sashimi Set" which came with two side dishes, pickles, red miso soup, and coffee for 1600 yen. There was also a daily set menu for 1100 yen with three options. Another customer ordered the "Tekkadon Set" for 1400 yen. There was a notice posted outside the restaurant that they will be selling bento boxes (available for delivery) until May 6, 2020. The business hours have also changed slightly, with evening hours starting and ending earlier. From now until May 6, they will be open for lunch from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm and dinner from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Starting May 7, they will reassess the situation and provide further updates. They are offering "Funichi Bento" for takeout and delivery (limited area), with a large bento for 1000 yen and a small bento for 900 yen. They also offer a set of three side dishes for 400 yen. Other items can be ordered individually upon request. It's best to call ahead to order the bento as the lunchtime rush may make it difficult to purchase one in person. I have attached a photo of the bento options for takeout. The photos were taken from the restaurant's Facebook page.

I visited for lunch. The daily special was "Assorted seafood and vegetable tempura." It was delicious, you could taste both the broth and salt flavors. I always look forward to the daily specials. The side dishes were also a surprise, and the coffee at the end was enjoyable. All for 1100 yen, with the option for rice refills, I left feeling satisfied. Thank you for the meal! ☺️

Here are the daily lunch set menus that I had when I went to the restaurant a few times. I had the Tekkadon set, so I'm sorry I don't have a photo to show you. You can get extra rice for any set that doesn't come in a bowl! Each set comes with a coffee (you can choose from hot or iced)!

I went out for lunch and noticed that the prices had changed due to the tax increase. The photo is of a Tekka Don set for 1400 yen. The daily special set that day was either fried white fish with silver bean sauce or grilled fish with salt for 1100 yen (I didn't try it so I don't remember well, sorry). The sashimi set was 1600 yen.

For my husband's birthday celebration, my mother and I went to our favorite restaurant. We ordered the 6,000 yen course with additional tempura and steamed dish. The steamed dish was a birthday gift from the restaurant, which was very thoughtful. Even though my husband and I are not big fans of sweetfish, the one we had here was delicious and we were pleasantly surprised. Everything was delicious and went well with our chopsticks and beer. The tempura is sometimes available on the lunch menu as a daily special, but it's hard to come by, so we asked for an extra order. It was consistently tasty. I'm not a big drinker, so I think I ate heartily. It was a very satisfying birthday celebration. We only came here because we wanted an excuse to celebrate (laughs). The African spotted eagle-owl named Konamacha greets you at the entrance, and he seemed very lively, maybe because it was nighttime. He's small and very cute. (We use our own chopsticks, so in reality, disposable chopsticks are provided).

"Sashimi set meal" includes two side dishes, pickles, red miso soup, and coffee (hot or iced). It costs 1500 yen. You can also get free rice refills. During lunchtime, there are other options such as a daily special for 1000 yen and Tekka Don for 1300 yen. It is recommended to arrive early as items may sell out later in the day. Update: As of October 2019, prices have increased by 100 yen each.

In Kyoto, there is a common type of restaurant where you can't tell what it is from the outside. I went there for a business lunch this time. As an Osaka person, I find these kinds of places a bit intimidating because you can't really tell what it is from the outside (laughs). When you open the wooden door, there is a stone pavement and as you walk in, you are greeted by a live owl, which was surprisingly calm and well-behaved. The lunch set consisted of stir-fried tuna belly, two side dishes, pickles, miso soup, rice, and a drink for 1,000 yen. The side dish made from sweet potato paste was delicious with the natural sweetness of the sweet potato. However, the rice was surprisingly hard, almost like the burnt rice at the bottom of a rice cooker (laughs). It was not like the rice you get at a sushi restaurant. I usually don't mind about rice, but this did bring my excitement down a bit. In the end, this place is more like a sushi restaurant. It may not be ideal to rate it based on a lunch set, but please forgive me. Thank you for the meal.

Tempura lunch set for ¥950, Tekka don for ¥1200, Sashimi set for ¥1500. Each comes with 2 small side dishes, pickles, rice, and red miso soup, with coffee included after the meal. You can choose between hot or iced coffee. The quality of the ingredients was outstanding, and the white rice was exceptionally beautiful! It would be perfect if they offered refills. However, for those having lunch during work, the portion size may be considered insufficient. The restaurant had a clean and sophisticated atmosphere. It might be a bit intimidating to go at night, but I would love to visit when my wallet is full.

The restaurant is located in a narrow and winding street. The abalone steamed sushi was very fresh and the "shimaaji" was particularly memorable. It's not an easily accessible place, but it's great for special occasions like anniversaries. The clientele seemed to be mostly in their 50s and 60s. It might be a waste to go when you're younger. I'm planning to go next time as a birthday present for my parents.
