The visit score was 3.06 (August 2023) walking from the hotel. I was lured in by the sign advertising 350 yen for a draft beer. The inside of the restaurant was about half full, but lots of businessmen from nearby hotels came in. I placed my order verbally with a charming, tsundere-like young female staff member. The prices were as follows: Draft beer 450 yen → 350 yen, Cold tofu 350 yen → 300 yen, Funagata Yama Junmai Ginjo 450 yen. The local chicken dish was flavorful and the sake was mild and easy to drink. Overall, it was a satisfying experience.

After 5 years, I visited this place again and found that the shop had shrunk due to the effects of the pandemic. However, the drinks were still cheap and the menu was still extensive. The grilled dishes were generously topped with Kujo negi (green onions), which I love. This time, I visited with my family, and both my wife and elementary school son enjoyed the snack dishes with alcohol. Most importantly, this is a rare gem for smokers like us, as it is a smoking-friendly restaurant. I look forward to continuing to visit this place in the future.

I casually entered this shop, but it was really good. Each dish was carefully made, and the taste was delicious, satisfying. They have a wide variety of dishes and a great drink menu. I already miss the potato salad. I will visit again.

I think this place is the go-to izakaya in Karasuma Gojo. It's cheap, delicious, and has a cozy atmosphere. The beer comes in a stainless steel mug, which at first made me think it was small, but it's actually a normal size. And it stays cold without getting warm! Eating surume (dried squid) tempura while drinking beer is irresistible. The tataki assortment is also good! Overall, everything is well-balanced.

I had lunch at a popular izakaya called Donpuku in Kyoto today. It is located underground along Karasuma Street. They offer a variety of lunch sets, including daily specials. I tried the Grilled Atka Mackerel Set, which came with side dishes and miso soup. The Atka mackerel was grilled to perfection and seasoned just right. The cozy atmosphere of the restaurant allowed me to relax and enjoy my lunch.

I stopped by this restaurant while I was in Kyoto for some errands. They advertise themselves as a casual izakaya, and the portions are generous and delicious! Especially the raw beef steak tartare was amazing! It's nice to sometimes walk into a restaurant without a reservation and discover a hidden gem like this!

I visited a restaurant that my friend had recommended, saying it was really good when they went there before. I arrived around 5 o'clock and it seemed like I was the first customer of the day, so I casually took some photos inside the restaurant. The atmosphere was calm and relaxing, with red menu signs and retro posters on the walls. I ordered a draft beer, and was surprised when it came in a stainless steel-like tankard! It was explained to me that it was designed like a thermos to keep the beer cold, and it could hold almost 20% more than a regular tankard. I felt like I got a good deal right from the start! The recommended menu was huge and impressive! I decided to try the rare steak of Japanese beef tataki and the veal tongue steak. The Japanese beef was really delicious, you could tell they used good quality meat. When I asked if the veal tongue steak could be cooked rare, I was told that it was meant to be seared and eaten as is, with a butter soy sauce. It was also delicious! The restaurant also had dishes using Kujo green onions and seasonal Kyoto vegetables, showing the owner's dedication. It's not common to find an izakaya that serves tea-infused rice porridge instead of the usual. The broth was flavorful and it was really tasty! It had been a while since I had been to such a delicious restaurant without any complaints. I'm grateful to my friend for recommending it, and this is a place I would like to visit again with someone else.
