A shop facing Tohdaiji Road. I never noticed it before... Run by a grandma. Their daily special is tonkatsu set meal. It comes with miso soup and is quite ordinary. Not many people come, so I could relax. Sometimes I feel rushed when I'm short on time.

At Grill Shingetsu in Kyoto, near Matsubara on Higashioji Street, I had the service lunch for 800 yen. Delicious and affordable! I avoided the traffic by taking the train for the GW visit to the grave instead of driving. I walked from Hankyu Kawaramachi to Otani Honbyo. I had planned to have lunch at a soba restaurant near Kennin-ji temple, but it was unexpectedly closed. As I walked along the crowded Higashioji street, full of tourists, I came across an old Western-style restaurant with nostalgic food samples displayed outside. Despite some hesitation, I entered the restaurant, which allowed smoking, and it turned out to be a great choice! The restaurant, run by an elderly couple, had an old-fashioned yet clean atmosphere. Despite being a holiday at a major tourist spot with temples like Kiyomizu-dera, Kodai-ji, and Kennin-ji, the lunch was only 800 yen! The service was a bit slow as it was at the pace of the elderly couple (15 minutes), but it added to the charm. I was able to enjoy a smoke while waiting. The freshly fried tonkatsu was crispy and topped with the restaurant's homemade sauce. The meat was thick and the taste exceeded the price! I will definitely come back next time I visit the grave by train. Keep up the good work, elderly couple! What a great find!

The other night, feeling hungry, I stumbled upon a restaurant while walking home. As a fan of Western cuisine, I was immediately drawn in and decided to order the special set menu advertised outside. The classic, calming interior and relaxing music created a peaceful atmosphere as I enjoyed my beer and took my time savoring the meal.

The store had a vintage feel, with a retro menu setting. The prices were reasonable for a tourist area. It felt like a place that was well-loved by the locals. The old man and old lady duo made it a cozy place to enjoy a meal. It was a pleasant lunch experience. Thank you for the meal. Special lunch for 1000 yen, ladies' lunch for 1000 yen.

I had the C lunch set. I waited 15 minutes with expectations for 1,300 yen. But what is this! The set included tonkatsu, hamburger, salad, and soup. The pork was tough and the hamburger was dry. There is no way to evaluate this.

There is a restaurant called "Grill Shingetsu" on Higashioji Street in Tamamizu-cho. When I passed by around 5 pm, there were many people dining, but when I returned around 6 pm, I was the only customer. I was seated at the back of the restaurant by the owner and ordered the "Special Lunch" for 1,000 yen. The meal included tonkatsu, fried fish, ginger pork, rice, miso soup, and pickles. The tonkatsu was thick but the outer coating was a bit overpowering, lacking the flavor of the pork. The fried fish was hot and tasty, but the sauce being mayonnaise was a bit disappointing. The ginger pork lacked a punch and could have been improved with more garlic or a stronger steak sauce. The side dishes like kimchi-style bean sprouts and cabbage salad were okay but felt like an afterthought. The rice was decent, and the miso soup was delicious. Overall, I felt that the dishes could have been tastier with more creative sauces. This restaurant is a casual Western-style eatery in a touristy area with many expensive options, so I hope it continues to thrive.
