Gion "Crown" Today, as always, okonomiyaki. Did you know that there are quite a few okonomiyaki restaurants in Gion, Kyoto? There are shops catering to tourists, but there are also many shops used for accompanying guests at night or for after-parties. "Crown" on Gion Tatsumi Koji Street is one of those shops. Of course, the shop is open until late at night. Going down the stairs to the basement, you will find a lively interior that used to be a drinking establishment. The menu of side dishes is abundant, with many daily specials to choose from. I forgot to take a photo, so I don't have detailed menu names and prices other than okonomiyaki. Wagyu Yukke Let's start with the yukke. Beautiful. They use good quality meat. In Gion, you can't serve anything subpar. Wagyu Tataki With grated ponzu sauce, plenty of onions, and finished with mitsuba. The meat quality is also good here. It goes well with sake. Scallop Butter Yaki The size is perfect, and it's quite sweet. Squeezing lemon enhances the sweetness even more. Thick Fried Tofu Crispy on the outside, and creamy on the inside. No mistakes here. It's a generous portion. Buta-Tama (Pork and Egg) Okonomiyaki Thick and fluffy batter filled with finely chopped pork and topped with plenty of pork fat. The addition of green onions adds a light touch, making it a superbly meaty okonomiyaki. I was full. I drank quite a bit, and it cost around 10,000 yen!
