I tried the Mitarashi Dango for ¥120, which was being sold only during the Gion Festival. The price was cheap. However, I was a bit bothered by the sticky texture of the dango, which was more gooey than chewy. I personally prefer them to be a bit more grilled.

I bought a "mizu manju" which has a rich flavor of small red beans. It is carefully wrapped in kudzu with a smooth red bean paste inside. The transparent manju looks refreshing. The refreshing taste and smooth texture of the kudzu in your mouth are perfect for summer. It is best served chilled and suitable for everyone.

Received in June 2021. This is a gift from "Kyokuri Kasho Wakana-ya" who specializes in Japanese sweets. The main store seems to be located near Nijo Castle (southeast). I have received their "Kuri Ami" before, which is chestnuts in syrup, but this is my first time trying their Monaka. It is a set of 5 Monaka (3 with whole bean paste, 2 with smooth bean paste). Enjoy the crispy Monaka shell with shiny Dainagon azuki beans inside. I tried it at home right away. The crispy Monaka shell and the bean paste combination was great. I prefer whole bean paste, but the smooth bean paste was also delicious with its elegant sweetness. Thank you for the meal!

I bought some roasted chestnut sweet potato cake and fluffy mochi. The roasted chestnut sweet potato cake has a subtle chestnut flavor mixed with white bean paste. The fluffy mochi has a chewy texture like ○○ Mochi and a hint of cinnamon flavor like ○○, giving it a Kyoto-style taste. Both are reasonably priced and would make a great little gift. However, despite being delicious, the naming of the fluffy mochi could use a bit more creativity.

Kurinoya is a specialty store for traditional Japanese sweets made with chestnuts, founded in 1927 in Marutamachi, Kyoto. I bought 10 pieces of their delicious baked chestnut sweets (¥162 each) because they looked so good. They were not too sweet and had a natural deliciousness of chestnuts. They are seasonal treats and I enjoyed them very much.

On this day, after finishing work, I visited a shop that offers a wide variety of Japanese sweets made with chestnuts. I purchased some chestnut sweets as a souvenir for the owner of a shop I was planning to visit later in Takatsuki, as well as some chestnut sweets for myself. One of the items I bought for myself was "Kyoto Chestnut Natto" from Wakana-ya, a shop I often visit. It is a simple sweet made with chestnuts and natto, allowing you to enjoy the deliciousness of chestnuts. As a chestnut lover, I am happy to have Wakana-ya, which offers many products that fulfill my wishes, located near my workplace. Thank you for the delicious treats.

I visited this shop again, which offers a wide variety of traditional Japanese sweets made with chestnuts. This time, I purchased a farewell gift for a female colleague who is leaving the company, as well as some "chestnut mochi" for my own home. The chestnut mochi contains red bean paste made from Hokkaido beans and is filled with a whole chestnut in each of the 3 pieces. My husband and I shared them, each having one and a half pieces. The elegant sweetness of the red bean paste combined with the prominent presence of the chestnut made this Japanese sweet a delightful treat that we could eat as many as we wanted. There are still more chestnut sweets at Wakana-ya that I am interested in, so I plan to visit again when I have the chance. Thank you for the delicious treats. This is a traditional Japanese sweets shop located on the corner of Shijo Nishidoin in Kyoto. I stopped by on my way back to the hotel after having a meal. I bought a lucky bag as a tea snack. The bag contained several sweets for 1000 yen, so it felt like a good deal. However, you don't know what kind of sweets are inside, which adds to the excitement. I enjoyed the sweets, even though I didn't know what to expect. Thank you for the meal.

I received delicious warabi mochi from a company girl, and when I asked, I found out that the traditional Japanese sweets shop specializes in "chestnuts". Being a big fan of chestnuts, I visited the shop the next day. Wakana-ya was established in 1927 in Kyoto, specializing in chestnut sweets. The previous owner was from Tanba Sasayama, known for chestnuts, and his wife was the daughter of a 300-year-old confectionery shop in Tanba Nobu. I headed straight to the chestnut sweets section. I bought "Kuri Ami (Shibukawa chestnut)" and "Kuri Ami (Chestnut Natto)" for gifts, and "Kyoto's Chestnut Natto" for myself. Although the appearance and name are the same as "Kuri Ami (Chestnut Natto)", the price is about 2.5 times higher. This "Kyoto's Chestnut Natto" allows you to fully enjoy the deliciousness of the chestnut itself with its large size. At 1,080 yen, it is quite a bargain, isn't it? Wakana-ya has many other chestnut sweets, but I might end up buying this "Kyoto's Chestnut Natto" again. I bought a chestnut-filled Mikasa at this store. I don't particularly like chestnuts, so normally I wouldn't buy it just because it's more expensive. However, lately I've been buying dorayaki one after another, so there's pressure from my wife as well, and I've been trying to choose things that will make her happy. The Mikasa here stands out because of the chestnuts, but even without them, it was delicious enough for me. That's because I give the chestnut part to my wife. She also said it was even more delicious with the chestnuts.

I will start by saying that this review is only about this specific product. I have not tried any other products from this shop yet. They have a summer limited edition jelly called "Natsumikan" and it is delicious! I really like the taste and texture. I have bought it multiple times as a snack. I'm sure I will have it again next year. Thank you for the meal!

When I was in Kyoto and couldn't decide what to buy as a souvenir, I stumbled upon this shop. It was towards the end of my trip and I was tired from searching for souvenirs. When I entered the shop, they served me cold green tea and some of their sweets as a complimentary service. It was really appreciated. I was looking for a souvenir for my family who have a sweet tooth. There were various delicious chestnut sweets to choose from, and I decided to buy a variety to enjoy. All of them were well received, but the shop's recommended item "Ritsuami," a chestnut Japanese-style marron glace-like sweet, was the clear favorite. I will definitely visit again. Thank you very much.

Today, I received a popular traditional Japanese confectionery from a chestnut sweets shop in Kyoto called Wakana-ya! According to the description, it is said to have sold a record of 14,000 pieces in one day, which is quite impressive! Upon trying it, the appearance resembles a chestnut, perfect for chestnut lovers. When I tasted it, I was surprised by how incredibly thin the outer layer was, almost as if there was no skin at all! Usually, these kinds of sweets have a thick outer layer with very little filling, but this confectionery was the opposite - filled to the brim! What surprised me even more was the moist and elegant sweetness that was not overly rich or heavy, typical of Kyoto sweets. It melted beautifully in my mouth without any dryness. It was a mysteriously delicious confectionery! Thank you for the meal!

I visited the shop on Saturday afternoon. The shop is located on the south side of Shijo Street. When I entered the shop, there were various types of colorful Japanese sweets displayed, ranging from fresh sweets to long-lasting sweets. On this day, I purchased the seasonal limited edition "Wakaayu" (126 yen). While waiting for the payment, they served me complimentary manju and tea. Wakaayu is a sweet with a soft and chewy dough filled with soft mochi, giving it a spring or early summer feel. Thank you for the meal. I will visit again.

■Visit Date: February 18, 2018■Purchased Item: Roasted Chestnut Kinako■MEMOI visited on February 18, 2018. My wife had tried it at work and found it to be incredibly delicious, so we decided to send some to my parents' house. I also wanted to try it myself, so we bought some individually for us to eat and arranged for the rest to be shipped directly from the store. I was impressed by the delicate craftsmanship that even included the astringent skin of the chestnut. When I finally tasted it, I was amazed by the perfect balance of sweetness, chestnut flavor, and the way it melted in my mouth. It's a delicacy that you want to savor slowly while enjoying a cup of tea.

■Visit Date: July 23, 2017■Item Received: Koshian (smooth red bean paste) filled Kuzu Daifuku (mochi)■MEMOVisited on July 23, 2017. Located near Shijo Nishinotoin, facing Shijo Street. Today being a holiday, my wife and I stopped by on our way home. We decided to purchase the Koshian filled Kuzu Daifuku. While waiting for it to be prepared, the staff kindly offered us tea and some samples to try. It was a hot day, so the cold Kuzu slices and tea were much appreciated, quenching our thirst. When we got home, we enjoyed the Kuzu Daifuku. It had a refreshing summer vibe. Sprinkling kinako (soybean flour) on top added a nice touch. The perfect balance of Koshian and Kuzu, with kinako enhancing the flavors. This traditional Japanese sweet brought a sense of calm and contentment.
