On Sunday, around 4 pm, I called the restaurant to make a reservation for 9 pm. I requested the special selection beef (US beef) sukiyaki and shabu-shabu set for one person. When I arrived at the restaurant on the 4th floor of Gion Kaikan, diagonally across from Yasaka Shrine, at 9 pm, there were 6-8 other customers waiting. I informed the receptionist about my reservation, and she promptly seated me at the end of the counter. It's nice to be seated at the end when dining alone. There was a pot on the gas stove where you could cook sukiyaki and shabu-shabu at the same time. As soon as I sat down, the meat, vegetables, and sukiyaki egg were served. The staff explained everything clearly. There were ponzu sauce, sesame sauce, and dipping sauce for sukiyaki in front of me, along with shichimi spice. The meat plate consisted of top sirloin on top and beef belly below, each about 150g. The vegetables included Chinese cabbage, bean sprouts, green onions, and shirataki noodles. The portion was just right for one person. They lit the fire, and I started cooking the vegetables. Although there was a drink-all-you-can plan for an additional fee (1500 yen), it required a minimum of 3 people, so I opted out. I ordered a premium malt draft beer separately. It was served in a glass of about 350ml, not a pint size. I had two glasses. Normally, two pints of beer would make me a bit tipsy, but with this glass size, it was just right. The meat was delicious, and there was a variety of vegetables. However, because sukiyaki is rich in flavor, I couldn't eat a lot, so I thought shabu-shabu alone would have been enough. I added a few more vegetables, got a refill of meat once, ate the udon noodles for the finale, and finished with a separate charge for matcha ice cream and yuzu sherbet. I was satisfied! The restaurant was spacious, with high ceilings and a comfortable atmosphere. I will definitely come back!
