"Challenge to Tabelog, Find the Low-rated Hidden Gem Restaurants!
After the successful Kyoto tour, Bonpapa was feeling confident and decided to embark on a second challenge to find low-rated and affordable restaurants. However, things didn't go as smoothly this time. The chosen restaurant for the day was "Kasanaga," with a Tabelog rating of 3.04 and only 3 reviews, giving off a somewhat lackluster vibe. Despite some hesitation, Bonpapa made a reservation based on the high praise and score on another website.
Unfortunately, the experience turned out to be a disappointment. The amuse-bouche and appetizers seemed clearly pre-made and stored for a considerable amount of time, resulting in a lackluster taste. This was a letdown in a city like Kyoto known for its vibrant food scene. The dishes, although well-prepared, lacked the freshness and were seemingly prepared in advance, with some final touches before serving. This affected the overall dining experience, as the flavors seemed to have deteriorated over time.
The course menu, priced around 6000 yen, included dishes like bonito, conger eel with caviar, pumpkin potage, herb butter-grilled oysters, and a choice of fish, beef cheek stew, or lamb. The maple pudding dessert was also served.
In conclusion, the dishes had a lingering taste of being stored or reheated, which overshadowed the intricate preparation and flavors. For Bonpapa, the key takeaway was the importance of serving dishes at their best condition, especially for pre-booked course meals. Despite the quick service and efficient dining experience, the lack of freshness in the dishes left a sour note.
Overall, this review reflects personal opinions and experiences, and there is room for improvement in ensuring that dishes are served in their optimal state. Hopefully, the restaurant can work on enhancing the dining experience for future customers."
