【August 2017】After wiping off the sweat, I strolled around Gion Shira-kawa and Kamo River. I feel like having cold soba noodles for lunch~!(^^)! I headed to the familiar Mimi Udon in Gion as always. The taste never disappoints every time I visit here. The restaurant is spacious, beautiful, and has a calm atmosphere. Despite not being in a prime location inside a building, it is always bustling with customers. Luckily, I got a table by the window this time. Now, for this visit:
- Ebi Oroshi Soba (cold) 1296 yen
- Tororo Tempura Soba 1728 yen
- Ebi Toji Zaru Udon 1782 yen
- Kirin Ichiban Shibori beer 669 yen
All the dishes had generous portions, and the men were very satisfied. The food was delicious as always. Eating cold soba while looking down at the tourists strolling along Shijo Street in the hot sunshine was very pleasant. I will definitely visit again!
【November 2016】After a leisurely walk in Fushimi, I decided to check out the autumn leaves in Kyoto. I visited Nanzen-ji and Chion-in slightly past their peak. It's okay though, I was just passing by the autumn leaves. I returned to Gion in high spirits. I was too lazy to look for a dinner spot, and it was cold, so there was only one option left. Yes! Udon Sukiyaki! I decided to go to Mimi Udon in Gion, which I hadn't visited in a while. As expected, it was crowded as always. There were many Western customers as well. After a 5-minute wait, we got a table by the window facing Shijo Street. We ordered the Udon Sukiyaki Course "Akane" for 5184 yen, which comes with seasonal appetizers, sashimi or tempura. The course is available for two people or more. We ordered the sashimi course and tempura course separately. It was very filling. The seasonal appetizers included sesame tofu, sea bream roe omelet, and blanched greens, all of which were delicious. The tempura had two prawns, eggplant, shiitake mushrooms, and green beans, all fried to perfection. The Udon Sukiyaki was luxurious and colorful, with various ingredients like Chinese cabbage, spinach rolls, prawns, chicken, conger eel, clams, carrots, shiitake mushrooms, daikon radish, green beans, mitsuba, maple leaf-shaped fu, and udon noodles. The udon noodles were firm and perfect for the hot pot. The flavor and color of Mimi Udon's broth were slightly rich for my taste as a Kyoto native. The ingredients were delicately prepared with a light seasoning, so it felt more like warming them in the broth than stewing. The aroma of grilled conger eel, simmered shiitake mushrooms, and the umami of clams and chicken were delightful. The sweetness of the conger eel and the softness of the prawns were exquisite. The maple leaf-shaped fu added a nice touch to the dish. The foreigners next to us were solemnly poking at their udon in a bowl, which was quite amusing. They seemed very intrigued by our Udon Sukiyaki! It was such a luxurious dish. Thank you for the delicious meal. I will definitely visit again!
【July 2015】I came to Kyoto to meet my sister and her husband after a long time. Looking forward to the evening meal, we first had lunch on Shijo Street. We wanted to take our time finding a restaurant, but my hungry husband was getting impatient, so we decided on this place! It's located on Shijo Street, near Yamato Oji Nishi.
