The stamina is outstanding ✨ Unagi dinner A thick and fragrant grilled eel kabayaki with fragrant shiso leaves and sansho pepper, served with a rich Kyoto-style grated yam sauce. The beef sirloin cutlet is grilled on a portable brazier at the table, always hot and delicious ☆∻∹⋰⋰( *˘ᵕ˘*)- ̗̀ ෆෆ ̖́- ===========

I had the impression that it is always crowded, so I decided to go in. It seemed like only students were working there, and since I sat at the counter seat, the chatting was a bit distracting. The food was good, but I was surprised that the rice was extremely lukewarm. It didn't cool down in a normal way...

I asked my colleague if there was beef cutlet in Kyoto, and we went to the beef cutlet restaurant "Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu" for lunch. The food was well-balanced and reasonably priced. I think it's the best place for a company lunch.
Location:
Located in a lively shopping street a short walk from the main streets of Shijo-Karasuma and Kawaramachi in the center of Kyoto. The atmosphere is vibrant and fun.
Crowdedness:
During lunchtime on weekdays, the restaurant was full of business people in the area. It seems to be a popular spot. We arrived around 12:25, which was the second round of lunch, so we didn't have to wait long to get a table.
Ordered items:
Beef sirloin cutlet + minced cutlet for 1090 yen.
Food:
The "Beef sirloin cutlet + minced cutlet" set was delicious. The shredded cabbage was fresh and added a nice balance to the meal. The beef sirloin cutlet was made using high-quality sirloin, giving it a juicy and crispy texture. It can be enjoyed with five different seasonings: plenty of wasabi and dashi soy sauce, sansho pepper salt, beef cutlet sauce, Japanese curry dipping sauce, and egg. The minced cutlet was thick and satisfying, with a juicy texture. The red miso soup was tasty, and refills for rice, red miso soup, and cabbage are free when you register on LINE.
Atmosphere and Service:
The restaurant has a counter on the first floor and tables on the second floor. The atmosphere is better on the first floor, while the second floor is more standard. The tables are just big enough for two people, and we moved the menu to the sofa to eat. The staff were attentive and responsive. The second floor has large windows that provide a bright and airy feel, with views of the shopping street outside.
Overall:
It's a great place for lunch. The quality of the food for 1090 yen is very affordable.

I visited the restaurant on a regular Monday night, and it seemed like there were fewer people in Shin Kyogoku due to the lingering effects of the coronavirus. I had been curious about "Katsugyu," a restaurant with several locations in Kyoto Prefecture, so I decided to visit for dinner. While there are many pork cutlet specialty shops, there are not many dedicated to beef cutlets, making it a bit more challenging. I tried the "Black Wagyu Cutlet Kyoto Tamazen" for 2590 yen (excluding tax), which was served with a medium rare frying level and on a mini hot plate for you to cook to your liking. The tender beef is delicious on its own, but I personally recommend trying it with the yuzu pepper salt or dipping it into the flavorful warm egg. It seems like the concept is to enjoy the good meat in your preferred way, which I think is great. By adding the free extra servings of rice, cabbage, and red miso soup through LINE friend registration, I made sure to take advantage of that offer. It's a great place to enjoy a leisurely dinner, and I heard that their lunchtime menu is quite affordable, so I plan to visit during lunch next time.

It is located near Kyoto Kitano Tenmangu Shrine. Even though I wasn't very hungry, I couldn't resist stopping by and ended up eating at Katsugyu. Adding a LINE friend made the meal a bit cheaper, which made me happy. I also ordered a beer. I was worried about carbs, so I thought about leaving some white rice, but ended up finishing it all. It was impossible. I was disappointed that the closest store to my home no longer had the rib roast set meal. I was thrilled to be able to eat it in Kyoto. Thank you for the meal.

It's been a while since I visited Kyoto, almost a year. Kyoto is known for its traditional Japanese cuisine, but it also offers a variety of Western-style dishes. This time, I tried a relatively casual Western dish that is still somewhat uncommon in the Kanto region - beef cutlet. While Tokyo has tonkatsu (pork cutlet), beef cutlet seems to be more popular in Kyoto. I visited a popular chain restaurant known for its beef cutlet. The main difference between tonkatsu and beef cutlet is the meat used, with the sides like cabbage, rice, and miso soup being similar. The restaurant offered 3-4 different sauces, which is becoming more common in tonkatsu restaurants in Tokyo as well. I ordered the standard "Original Red Beef Loin Cutlet Set" and found the meat itself satisfying, but the sauce made a big difference in taste. Personally, I found the Sichuan pepper salt sauce to be the most delicious. The curry sauce was also surprisingly good. The fact that you could get unlimited rice and cabbage refills was a nice touch!

I ordered the Black Wagyu Sirloin Cutlet Set, which was discounted from 2980 yen to 1430 yen. My companion ordered the Demi-Glace Beef Cutlet for 900 yen. Despite being the Sirloin Cutlet Set, the meat was thin and tough, and it was hard to believe it was originally priced at 2980 yen. When I tried a piece of my companion's 900 yen Demi-Glace Beef Cutlet, it was tender and had a good volume. It was a disappointing outcome that the cheaper option turned out to be more delicious.

On Sunday at 1:00 PM for lunch, there were two groups waiting outside. It seemed like a table was about to open up, so we decided to wait in line. When we asked the staff how long the wait would be, they just said to wait a moment. After waiting for 15 minutes, we were finally seated on the second floor. We ordered the beef loin cutlet set for 1380 yen and the demi-glace beef cutlet set with a warm egg topping for around 1000 yen. The loin cutlet was small at 130g, and the meat was a bit tough. The demi-glace had a strong miso flavor and the cutlet itself was also on the firmer side, almost like meat for curry. The cabbage for self-service was thin, soft, and delicious. I wished the dressing had less oil. The rice was barley rice, which had a good texture. Overall, the meal was satisfying and had a good amount of food.

Family dinner in Kyoto. They open early, which is convenient. The beef loin cutlet set is delicious with plenty of tender loin cutlet to enjoy. You can choose from 2 types of sauce, so you won't get tired of it until the end. The portion is easy to finish even for women. Men will also be satisfied. The miso soup is tasty, and the rice is delicious. Fried foods can be heavy on the stomach, but this loin cutlet never makes me feel heavy, which I appreciate. I want to go again soon.

I went to eat beef cutlet for the first time in a while. I have been visiting the same beef cutlet restaurant since it opened, but it had changed ownership recently. To be honest, the quality of the meat and cooking skills have deteriorated significantly. They seem to focus more on mysterious designs aimed at Asian tourists, while the food itself was disappointing. The meat was full of tendons, tough and hard to chew, with no umami flavor, just red meat. The rice was mushy. The miso soup lacked both flavor and taste. It says "Kyoto Beef Cutlet" on the sign, but with this crappy tough meat, they shouldn't claim to be a Kyoto brand. I recommend going for pork cutlet instead if this is the case. It felt like I paid a lot for some tasteless food. This is a typical example of how things were better in the past.

The popular beef cutlet restaurant had a long line, so I decided to try this place instead. I ordered a beef cutlet for around 2,000 yen, but when I went to the restroom, I found it to be unventilated and unsanitary, especially during this time of COVID. The beef cutlet was just average, not particularly delicious or bad. Overall, it didn't leave a lasting impression on me. The taste didn't match up to what I was expecting from a popular place.

I visited around 19:20 on a regular day. The first floor counter was full with 4 people.
- Kyoto Katsushige Kyoto Tamago Tsuki for 1380 yen
The beef was thin but delicious. I thought it was small, but surprisingly I was quite full.
- Barley rice had a clear barley texture. The only downside was that the sauce was too salty. If I were to order it again, I would ask for only one-third of the usual amount of sauce.
- The special sauce with a hint of sansho pepper didn't have a strong scent of sansho pepper, but the actual sansho pepper seeds in it were delicious.
- Kyoto Tamago was also too heavy on the sauce. It was my first time having such a strong sauce on a soft-boiled egg. I should have taken the egg out of the sauce before the yolk melted.

On Friday at 19:50, I entered the Kyoto Katsugyu Teramachi Kyogoku store. There were no other customers on the first floor, so I sat at the end of the counter. I chose the limited menu item "Beef loin cutlet and salmon fatty tuna cutlet set" for 1,628 yen. The order arrived at 19:57. Thinly sliced beef cutlet and salmon cutlet were placed in front of me. They mentioned that rice and cabbage are free for refills, and to squeeze sudachi over the salmon. The set also came with barley rice, red miso soup, and grated ponzu sauce. There were three separate condiment dishes with ponzu sauce, sansho pepper salt, and wasabi soy sauce. Additionally, there was a mixed ponzu sauce for flavor variation. I am trying to be conscious of my carbohydrate intake, so I am careful about the order in which I eat. I started with a refill of cabbage and proceeded to eat the vegetables first. There was only one type of light dressing available on the counter. The cutlet was very thinly sliced. I don't think I've ever had beef cutlet before. I personally enjoy the flavor of sansho pepper salt and grated ponzu sauce. The barley rice was cooked to a soft texture. A single male customer arrived after me and sat on the counter on the opposite side near the door. There were no more customers during my time there. It was a delicious meal.

Beef loin cutlet Kyoto Tamazen for 1,958 yen. Last New Year's Day, I also had the beef cutlet in a bento box at Katsugyu in Kyoto, but today they only have a special New Year's menu, so I chose this. I arrived just before 11 o'clock and was the first customer of the year 2020, so I feel pretty special! The frying of the cutlet is quite rare, with blood dripping out, which I'm not a big fan of. Due to pressure from various sources, I have minimized my posts since June 2019, and have also minimized the images since January 2020. Please refer to the corresponding Google Maps for the images. Visit for lunch on New Year's Day 2020.

I was able to get in right away without waiting in line, maybe it was just luck! It was my first time trying deep-fried cutlets that you cook yourself! In terms of preference, the wasabi soy sauce was the most delicious!
