I often visit the main branch of Owariya, but I had always been curious about this modern Japanese-style building located in a great location near Imadegawa Omiya. I had the impression that it would be difficult to reach by car, so when a few of us were out and about in a car, we decided to finally check it out. We originally intended to go to another restaurant nearby, but it was full and we didn't have much time, so we ended up at Owariya. The menu was elegantly displayed in a niche box next to the entrance, and the interior of the restaurant was small but clean, with 4 tables and 2 raised tatami seating areas. There weren't any particularly unique items on the menu, but I decided on the "Small Donburi Set." I was a bit disappointed that the soba was plain soba or plain udon, but I hadn't had plain soba in years, so I decided to go for it and ordered the donburi with curry. The donburi was served in about 5 minutes, which I found to be quite fast. The plain soba was served in a light soy sauce-colored broth with thin white soba noodles, and only green onions as a condiment - truly "plain." The thin noodles paired well with the broth, and I enjoyed the simplicity of the soba after not having it for a long time. The small donburi may look small, but it was actually quite filling due to its depth. The curry sauce had a good spicy flavor with a strong dashi taste. Although the mixing of the rice and curry was a bit challenging due to the depth of the bowl, I enjoyed eating the rice with the firm curry sauce on top without mixing it too much. The customers coming in seemed to be mostly people working in the Nishijin area, regardless of gender or age. The atmosphere was like a traditional, unpretentious neighborhood soba shop run by older men and women. I felt that this Owariya is quite connected to the local community. I plan to continue using it for lunch and learn more about this restaurant in the future. I also confirmed that there is a contract parking space for one car in the adjacent parking lot, so I feel confident about using my car to visit this place again.
