This is a restaurant review of "Sukiya" located at Shijo-Karasuma in Kyoto. On this day, around 9 o'clock, I was wandering around looking for a place to eat but couldn't find anything good. I remembered seeing a commercial for Sukiya's seafood Chuka-don in the spring and decided to try it out. Although I don't usually go to Sukiya, the interior of the restaurant was what you would expect from a beef bowl chain. However, there were many table seats at the back which was impressive. Unlike other beef bowl chains, Sukiya doesn't operate on a ticket system, so you have to order with the staff. During the morning hours, there were few staff members and surprisingly many customers, so it took longer than expected for a fast food restaurant. I ordered the seafood Chuka-don for 480 yen as originally planned. The seafood Chuka-don that came out didn't look as packed with seafood and vegetables as in the commercial. I searched online and found that this seems to be the case for most restaurants. However, when you take it to go, the packed container seems to have more seafood and vegetables. In terms of appearance, takeout seems to provide a higher level of satisfaction. As for the taste, although it seems like they just poured a retort-like sauce over rice, it was surprisingly flavorful. The sauce had a slightly thick consistency. The ingredients included scallops, shrimp, squid, squid legs, quail eggs, Chinese cabbage, napa cabbage, naruto, wood ear mushrooms, bamboo shoots, carrots, and more, making it quite hearty. The shrimp and scallops were not as cheap-looking as expected, and the larger pieces were a nice touch considering the price. Personally, I think just a little more effort in arranging the bowl to hide the rice would increase the satisfaction level, but I understand that chain restaurants have limitations in terms of presentation. Overall, considering the price, I believe it's a decent seafood bowl.
